Why celebrate that? He jumped and rather than just putting the ball through the hoop, he held onto the rim. His weight along with the momentum rips the hoop from the glass backboard, causing the glass to shatter as the bolts are ripped violently from their placement. The game comes to an end since you can't play with only one hoop, and we celebrate. Why? Also, why is glass used for a backboard? I know you can make extremely strong glass, but I find it hard to believe it's cheaper than strong plastics, or stronger than metal, both of which could be alternatives to a glass backboard.
I don't know if you've ever played basketball on any of those surfaced backboards before, but I can assure you it's definitely much more cost effective to use glass over metal or plastic and it's also because glass has a better reaction/performance chemistry on basketball's bounce and reaction on contact, hence why the NBA uses glass backboards. Also, you'd waste more time and money on a metal or plastic backboard because if someone dunks and hangs on the rim, it has to be realigned and there's no telling what the integrity of the backboard would be once the rim is damaged, so glass is smarter and faster to replace, while taking the least amount of time to fix.
what was awesome ... ? shattered glass is awesome ...? holding the rim and hanging on it, is that awesome ... ??? One brain dead comment ... give us more stupidity please Jeff ....

It was something back in the day when Dawkins did it. It seemed to be an accident of sorts. Then he did it again. Then it seems he was doing it just to be doing it. People got wise to him delaying games for hours. Then they put heavy springs under the rim. Problem was it springs back really hard. More delay of games. When I see this now I just think, BIG DEAL, so he can break glass. I’m not impressed. I’m more impressed with assists.
so toxic to find negativity in this. Could be the kid first interview on tv. There are reporters and other officials, that say "um" in every sentence. Relax and just enjoy that the dude broke the backboard instead finding something to hate on him about.
I bet coach Collins was mad I bet lol 😆 😂 🤣
Ong 😭
Every shattered backboard is a glorious tribute to the king Darryl Dawkins.

Another over analyzing comment. We watched the video as well, no need to go into that over dramatization.

Let the kid have his glory. I agree, why so negative? 👎
@@TheCrazedEB and the sad part is you would think that this negativity is coming from kids but its from adults. SMH...very sad
