Thank you Kermit for the laughs after a long day...... your commentary is terrific comedic relief. I hope you keep that Rick guy's number and recommend him to anyone who may need him. Hard to find decent people so willing to 'work' with/for you. Can't wait to see what gets done with the "Muffin." It is a truly unique item.
Glad you stepped in and saved this historic aircraft and I wonder what it would cost to get it flying again?!!! Thought it was nice that Rick got a tour around FOF when the job was done. Great series of videos, and thanks for sharing the adventure.
I am so glad you have rescued her; I've been worried about this airframe for at least 20 years.
I was glad when the Hughes 307 re-emerged as the Muffin and wondered whatever happened to it so I am glad to see it has survived even if it now will disappear into Weeks junk collection.
Just want to say what Kermit has done to preserve (& share) aviation history is unparalleled. No person has every done more. His hands on for this adventure was really fun watch! Look forward going on a 'Cosmic Muffin' run in the future 😚. Best wishes to him and all at FOF!
Thanks!
"There can be only one!"@@tez4274
What a nice guy, he was great at backing the trailer in and you could tell he wanted that tour 😂
This definitly looks like a "Florida Man" story in the making.
That was EPIC!! Better than anything on the TV, I tell you that!!!
Hey Mr Weeks, great video. I like that contraption you acquired. I would look all over that for some kind of a hidden compartment. Hughes might have had one that nobody found.
Your Killin me everytime I see " they only sent one employee"!
Quite an operation and very exciting Kermit! Couldn't be in better hands.
I always made it a point to eat lunch here when i was working in Florida. I even took local customers here. I retired in 2016 but visited many times. I even once took a lesson with the fellow who had the Stearman offering flights on the property. Many fond memories of this great place.
Cool to see this happen
you are crazier than i thought. haha. fearless.
Kermit - One question... How long before she's restored to her former glory as Howard Hughes' Boeing 307? Umm... flyable of course.😁 Yep, I know it's not feasible, or probably even possible, but it would be sensational, wouldn't it?
Regards from another tropical place! 😁👍
The lights on the trailer is out.
You have way more patience than i have!! Good job!! 👍👍
Here in Europe is such an "organized" journey forbidden.
Wow!
Man that trailer guy took your money
lol. I was yelling at my phone EXIT 44!!!!😂
and that is supposed to be interesting? ugh
14' wide you'll never get permitted for an Interstate and the permit states the route you are PERMITTED TO TAKE. It's not a permit to take an oversize load wherever you please. Get caught off the permit route once and see what happens. Big fines they can and will make you "wait out" in jail if they so desire. Especially when you're hauling oversize - actually "extradimensional" once you get over 12' wide - behind a PICKUP TRUCK and probably without a CDL.
The trailer person definitely isn't the sharpest tool but a tool for certain!
They only sent one guy?
How many employees did the trailer company send again?
Why do you keep saying the only sent one guy? How many people do you need?
For securing and transporting oversize load on public roads? Minimum two in two cars? Hauler and spotter? Preferably four - two drive and two watch the load and communicate?
Rick, the employee, is one competent guy. Bravo.
Did you opserve the crane guy as well?…
Dartboard, coffee maker, done.
Kermit - Thank You - For Preserving History - Howard Would Be Proud...Stay Safe...
Yeah, I get the whole "what was I thinking" vibe, but the spirit of Howard Hughes will not be denied. You did the right thing. Rick Rocks, and so does his truck!
Happy to see Rick relax once he understood Kermit's vibes. He was definitely a bit overwhelmed the first day! The trailer guy probably tosses all kinds of crazy jobs on guys like Rick without giving them any information.
That fellow Rick did a fine job. After watching this 3 part series in its entirety, I agree with you Mr. Weeks -- screw the trailer guy. You did a phenomenal job getting the Cosmic Muffin back to Fantasy Of Flight. Thanks for taking the time to share this incredible experience with us.
Having been a trucker that guy was an insult to industry. Next time I would do more research on the company first.
That guy is a chuckle head. I would have sent him home. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy but people's lives are at risk.
I'd hire Rick today if he wants to work in New Zealand...
What a man Rick is , it never phased him , well done to the Two! Of you👍😎
Did the trailer company only send one Employee? LOL, Kermit is a crack-up.
Thank you Mr Weeks for saving this valuable piece of history; it should never have been allowed to be butchered up in the first place😀
Thanks for sharing your adventures Kermit! You may not get to it, but you’re saving it so the next guy at least has the chance. “Blessed are those who plant trees under whose shade they will never sit”.
I think he knows he’s taking on more projects that he can ever get around to but I think he believes he will be around in some form to see the ones that get finished.
A trailer company maybe but a large item moving company not so much ! No escorts in front or back with lights and signs and high reach poles ! Florida is not the west coast but out here you would have been pulled over by every Cop for 50 miles around ! Great to see it delivered and safe !
Thank you, Kermit, for your work in preserving aviation history. God gave you the resources. I don't, but I have flown just under 25,000 hours. I hope there is a plan to continue your work and dedication after you retire.
i mean, they may have only sent one guy, but he seems like he knows what hes doing. he did a good job maneuvering the load.
The Muffin is home... I sure hope the lunch was good.. because crane time.. moving guy.. permit.. etc.. plus what I would guesstimate the trailer's actual value is.. doesn't come close to $30k.. or even $20k.. lol.. but hey.. you got to do a lot of the legwork and some of the work too.. so there's always that.. lol.. oh well, it's only money.. and that the muffin.. so, it was well spent..
Remember, you only hired the truck driver. If you wanted guide cars (called pilot cars in the oversized trucking world), you could have hired them as well. The permit didn't require pilot cars.
Great seeing her homecoming... thanks for tagging us along! Well done all!
Kermit, remember we're in a USER PAYS system 🤣and why is the theme from The Third Man playing in my head?
Looks great! Any chance on updating FoF open hours so folks who live further away can make a reasonable trip out of it? Still only open a few days a week for 4 hours.
You can always check the calendar on our website for seasonal opening dates and times for our Museum Lite.

Rick did a good job! I’m sure he appreciated the tour!
Moving company did you dirty Kermit sending one guy to secure and move the boat.
There goes our billonarie getting his hands dirty. Good job dear Kermie
I don't know how much Rick is getting paid, but he needs to ask for a raise.
I am sorry but that entire trailer thing is not right. That is really the tail wagging the dog. Yea, it moved it, but if something went wrong, that truck was not up to it.
“Free” as in “puppy”…
I was surprised to see that the authorities didnt turn up and demand you have a escort vehicle and the weird tires on the truck would be a ticketable item here as they stick out beyond the fenders 😅
Watched all 3 videos, good job Kermit.
If you don't save it Kermit, who will?
Looking forward to seeing what you do to restore the Muffin to its original state of seaworthyness
Load that high and wide should have at least 1 Escort running behind. Preferably 2 , having 1 in front also.
Rick is a champ what a driver good job brother!
👍
Since it's going to be used for Gatherings and groups out on the lake I'm sure you're going to have a quiet generator to run lights and air conditioning it would be quite easy to just add a couple electric motors and propellers and routers and make an electric boat certainly take up a lot less space and weight than Outboards or I/O's
You could even use those little asapods that have a propeller and a housing around the propeller that rotates and that will give you propulsion and steering all in one package.
Kermit, you did an outstanding acting job as employee number two!😳😂
Driver did an amazing job!
A very fitting home for this piece of history.
Just one question Kermit, how many employees did the trailer company send ? 😄
Great videos and Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 Cheers Glenn.
If you want things to be done
correctly, you have to do them yourself. Good you decided to be there to oversee the transport - imagine Rick to be there just on his own … No way doing business with this Trailer company again. Anyway thanks for saving the Cosmic Muffin. What you did for saving unique Aviation Artifacts is far beyond anything anybody else has done. Thank you for posting the Videos! 👍
Nice job, Rick!
Hi Kermit. Top dog job and here in the UK there you wouldn’t be able to drive on the roads with a load like that without full flashing beacons and without a escort vehicle also with flashing beacons all over it. And your load full marked out.. just watching you keep calm and collected and patience of a saint.. I enjoy every one of your videos.. please never stop being you. Have a good one Pete
Oh wow Kerms....Shite!
In New Zealand, the qualification to do that job is "Certified Pilot"... at least Kermit meets that definition!
You Sir, Have the patience of a saint. Great work
I'd like to music Kermit. You and him were good together. Good looking place, Kermit, glad you got her home.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👌🎸✈️🛩🛫💪💯🙏🙏
So glad this piece of history is being kept alive. Thanks Kermit.
You Are Most Likley,
The Only Owner of a Howard Hughes owned Airplane Who was personally The Sole Final Strap Down/ Follow Me Ever.
Congratulations. .
U The Man
Im confident U looked into What Was Said, What Was Done Regarding The Trailer Guy Deal. Uncle Howard would appreciate your Personal Hands on.
I thought I was watching an episode of Florida Man TV. :) One question, how many employees did the trailer company send? Good job Rick and Kermit !
Congratulations on a safe arrival. Another piece of aviation history save from the scrappers. Thank you Kermit, not only for the Boeing 307 but for all the rest of the aircraft at FoF.🙂🙂
❤
:)
As I watch thru video. I been a Charter Bus Driver 14 years. Never seen a 14 wide load not with a Lead an Rear " Follow" Me,,..
Bad Busines there Trailer Man
👍
The thrill of restoration like going to the "penny arcade with the $25.00 minimum", it's fun but costs lot's of money !🛫
Everyone probably saying "What's Kermit Bringing Home Now"
Man.. The pucker factor was real on this video and the last. Me & my dad have had a number of sketchy moves of heavy equipment, relying on sketchy people, sketchy trailers and the like. You triggered some flashbacks man! But I'm so happy to see another one of Howards babies safely indoors. Thank you for all you're doing.
Delightful! And the commentary made it watchable! Thank You, Kermit!
Hey I just want to say thank you again for sharing your passion your airplanes your crew that works on things for you that gets things done the people that help you and your historical perspective are all of these aircraft you're a pretty cool guy and thank you thank you thank you
As an average Joe, it's kinda hard to not be "jealous" or whatever word you would insert here. I have worked hard all my life for a salary, now pensioned off with a very meager income. It's a bit disconcerting to see how the "other" people live and survive, not cared about where the next (insert unit of currency here) comes from. I can't even get to see my daughter in New Zealand due to no funds for air tickets, let alone buy random (worthwhile) aircraft to rescue. Not sorry for myself and really thankful for the blessings I have, it's just that this is not how I imagined my retirement would be... Kermit, well done in what you have achieved, and for rescuing all those wonderful important machines! (Edit: What you paid for the trailer etc, works out at nearly 600k in US dollars of our currency. To put it into perspective, that's just under 1/4 of the capital in my pension fund, also I could buy a really really nice car for that here! At least I own my house free and clear and have no debts to speak of...)
Ho visto tutti e tre i video , davvero molto interessante, complimenti !!!
Last time I flew Hughes Airwest the plane was egg yoke yellow with navy blue font. Good colors for the Cosmic Muffin?
Hat's off to the driver. His company really screwed him on this job. At least he got to play a small part in preserving this piece of history.
Enjoyed the three vids on this. can't wait to see what you end up doing with it. thanks for saving it.
Awesome and enjoyable series of videos, but now the real work begins!
Thank you!!
You are one cool dude.... Thank you for posting...!!! :)
Where I am all unmarked infrastructure is assumed to be at least 16ft off the road surface(which is why 16' has become a golden number in the trucking world). You are actually considered not at fault if you hit unmarked infrastructure and are under 16ft tall.
Hey Kermits on for saving another Sure brings back memories of Disassembling & Moving Airplanes AZ~NV. #-4 the ❤ of Airplanes!
Kerite, get a trucky or someone show you how to roll up and loop strap tails. It's tidy, safe and a lot quicker than how you did it leaving Irish pennants. I hope that you dealt to the owner of the trailer company. He should be paying you.
I hope you never have to use that trucking company again. Really bad service.
Kermit, thank you for saving the Cosmic Muffin! A awesome piece of Howard Hughes history. I hope to see it again someday. I had visited it in Ft Lauderdale!
Looks like you have a new bud! Enjoyed the series.
Thanks for taking us on this adventure ! I'm glad you are saving this piece of history . Great video as always.
Hotshot trucking is the quickest way to go broke. Hats off to those that can do it and make a living!
Holy bat crap Kermit......lol. Quite the piece my friend.
such a great project,,,, so glad you saved it,,, will make a terrific addition to the museum once restored and chugging about on the lake
