Nice Russel. NDA's are very much standard practice. Mentioning the NDA in a letter is just due diligence and no reason to be suspicious about anything.
Glad you have it back and hopefully a permanent fix to the issue. Still waiting to use mine properly but when I do I so hope it doesn’t have this leak.
Glad you got yours fixed and thanks for the update. Disappointing though to know there is an NDA in place, and that the customer ultimately needs to take it exhaustively further to get a fix.
Thanks Andrew., yes very happy to finally have a fix. I have no idea why there is an NDA in place...make if that what you will, but it seems strange to me. It was a frustrating process, but hopefully this video helps others who might have the issue. If I had known that they will do a replacement thermal pad, I would have sent it in for repair months ago. clear skies
Hi Russell, I am glad that you are able to get it finally repaired. As you know, 365 Astronomy is actually the main UK dealer and I did try to add this as a comment to your previous video, but was having problems posting comments. They are only 30 minutes drive from me! At least now you have a avenue in the UK for further issue/parts etc. Good luck and look forward to seeing some more excellent images!
I'm glad to see you have had the issue dealt with by having that thermal pad replaced and fingers crossed that it does not recur. I really hope that I don't have this issue, but if so, hopefully the company in Australia that I purchaed the camera from will be as helpful as 365.
Great news Russell, glad you’ve got your camera fixed for good now! It’s encouraging for us ZWO 2600 camera owners to know this fix is now available. Thanks so much for updating us👍 Clear skies!
Thanks Simon. Yes good to know that they are actually addressing the issue. I don’t think they are advertising this and mainly advising that people clean the sensor, however, if you push they will replace the thermal pad…not sure what would have happened if I was outside of my warranty though
@@RussellsAstrophotography , Yeah, that is worrying! Had mine a while now with no problems, if it develops a faulty after the warranty, I hope they would still honour the fix!!
@@SimonsAstro I hope they would too, it is a known manufacturing problem, so hopefully they would try to fix it for you…fingers crossed it won’t happen to your camera
Super video Russell, thank you for taking the time to create and share this video mate, I'm sure it'll reassure a lot of people! :-) Hope you can get back to using that lovely sensor now! Clear skies 👍👍
Glad it has worked out well! I bought the 2600mc from 365Astronomy a few months ago, so far so good. I spoke to Zoltan a few times while getting some other stuff, he is solid. John, who works there, is also very helpful. I will be definitely coming back to them.
Great to hear Russell. I hope this is the end of your problems with the camera. So far so good with my 2600MC Pro. I can’t help to think that if a serious issue like this arose with a person’s high end Canon or Nikon DSLR, that those companies would have responded much quicker than ZWO. Just hope I never have to find out as I love my 2600MC Pro.
Thank you Brian, I have been assured that the newer thermal pads will not leak...I hope this is true. I hope you 2600MC pro doesn't have this issue 🤞 They are fantastic cameras...leaks aside
Thanks again Russell! As I suspected, on some ASI cameras, the cooling pad behind the sensor is oversaturated with oil. It seems it flowed around and onto the front of the sensor (after imaging) in the warmth-up cycle. Now I wonder who in the USA will do as good a job as 365 did. Congratulations.
You're welcome James thanks for watching. I'm not sure who in the USA will be offering this fix, but I know that someone is. I would contact ZWO via Facebook and ask...they seem to reply quicker on FB. Clear skies 👍
That's great that you got the fix, and i purchased many things from 365 and always found them to give an excellent service. I was interested in buying this camera but i have seen so many UA-cam videos of people that had this problem that i am now very reluctant to buy it. I like using the ASIair Pro and would like a good ZWO mid range mono camera, i would like the 6200 model but it is very expensive, Does anyone know if ZWO have any plans to replace the 2600 with a newer model that does not have these problems in the near future? I'm sure all these reported problems with the 2600 are having a negative impact on their sales.
Thanks Rob, I’m glad I managed to get a fix. I think the new versions of this camera should be fine. ZWO have fixed the issues and the new sensors that they are fitting to the cameras do not have this issue. If you buy one now you should be fine. I’ve heard that the 6200 is amazing with that full frame sensor, but yes they are very expensive. The 2600 is fantastic and the new models shouldn’t leak. I hope this helps
Just happened to my ASI2600mc. First Light Optics (my retailer in this case) agreed to replace the camera with a new one (within 20 min of me emailing them). Anyone with this problem should demand a new one.
Hi Cliff, sorry you had the issue, I am glad that you have got a replacement. FLO are fantastic. The oil leak returned for me after this "fix", so they have now replaced my camera.
@@RussellsAstrophotography I kind of see it more like the post in FB shows that there is a flaw in the camera. They don't want to represent that at all if they want to sell their cameras.
@@RussellsAstrophotography Yeah. A lot in this video shows bad publicity to ZWO because 1. Camera has a sensor flaw. 2. the NDA you mentioned. But it's good that they're aware so they can keep optimizing their products to be better on the next iteration.
365 did the work themselves. They are a ZWO retailer and have an agreement in place with ZWO to fix the problem. ZWO instructed me to send the camera to them to get the issue fixed. 365 told me right from the beginning, that it was not their solution, they were just following the instructions from ZWO.
From everything I’ve been told and read from ZWO any that have been made since Oct last year shouldn’t have this issue. The new ones should not suffer from this problem.
@@adrianhickey2424 the camera was collected on the 12th dec and I got it back on the 6th Jan. I was away from a week over Christmas though and Zoltan from 365 did call me to offer to send it sooner but I asked if he could keep hold of it until I was back.
Hi Tom, you will have to speak to ZWO to double check, but I believe they have contracts with distributor in lots of different countries will offer this service.
To be fair, I think junk is harsh. I love the camera, it is just incredibly frustrating to have this issue. I think the new ones do not have this issue.
