Have a great day everyone!
Wow, I just finished Hawkeye as well
@@richard_n Hawkeye is in one of borne movies.
Wait till you get to the last film is the series..easily the worst one unfortunately. 🤦🏾♂️
No shade, but why even bother with the Patreon names at the bottom at this point? I can't read shit! lol 🤣
that ending still gives me chills. what a trilogy.
loved him swimming away. absolutely chills!
And mirroring the first scene of the trilogy. Poetic
I love Nicky's sly " I know better" smile when they say no body had been found.
How is it a trilogy with 4 movies
@@JamesVSCinema 1st time we see Jason is in water. Then the end of the trilogy the last we see him is in the water again
For me the moment at 15:35 was so mind blowing. I was like “oh shit this movie takes place during the end of Supremacy!” Never recovered. The Bourne trilogy is one of my favorite trilogies ever.
The only problem with the timeline is that Joan Allen had a facelift between movies
@@GrainneMhaol Also, it wasn’t winter during the end of _Supremacy._
Yep… it blows my mind that people didn’t get the parallel timeline lol.
This trilogy redefined what an action movie could be, and though many copycats learned the wrong lessons with the shaky cam, the acting, storytelling, action, and directing here are top tier. So glad you're covering this.
Happy to have watched this as well. Loved this film!
Great call Rex. Too bad the 4th one is skippable. Should have ended it with this.
Feels like every time a movie or franchise gains success, people learn the wrong lessons lol
@@petergoss821 agreed; it’s not that 4 is a bad movie but it was just so cliched which is such a shame because this was the series that really redefined the spy genre
Well said 👏🏼 I think Ultimatum might be my favourite one. But overall, such an amazing trilogy!
You didn’t discuss it, but I really liked the scene where Jason and Nicky are in the restaurant, and we learn mainly from facial expressions and very few words, that they probably had a personal relationship in Paris before he developed amnesia. Really well acted. Loved your reaction and reviews of all 3 movies. 👍😎
I actually mentioned this in the uncut! Thanks for tuning in ♥️🙏🏽
Ultimatum is my favorite Bourne movie. They refined everything, including the shaky cam. And it was the best paced of them all.
I love the symmetry of Jason repeating at the end here to the blackbriar operative what was told to him by Clive Owen in the first one. “Look at what they make you give.” The guy was one of the only people in the world who would truly understand Jason there in that moment.
The shaky cam in the fight scenes is actually planned and executed very well, especially this one. Paul Greengrass uses it as a tool, not a fallback crutch.
The Bourne Legacy is alright. It covers the Blackbriar project in greater detail. It does not have Jason in it, but it's still an interesting film. The final film, Jason Bourne, does bring us back to what happened in all the aftermath of the trilogy. I highly recommend doing it on the channel. They waited about 10 years to film it and I think a lot of people didn't bother with it because of Bourne Legacy.
Waterloo station scene, my absolute favourite scene ever in any movie. So good.
the market/rooftop scenes are one of the best action/tension scenes in any film
Best movie reaction channel, hands down. I am always happy to watch a new video!
Thanks Thomas!! You are the man!
I just love that scene of Bourne killing the other assassin with the bathroom.
You have a fantastic speaking voice. I kinda wish you were a dj on a jazz radio program! Very smooth.
If you were interested, they made another Jason Bourne movie that takes place kinda along this same timeline. They reference what Jason is doing in this movie in the spin off, its a new character that is in the program when Jason Bourne is actually doing the things in this film. The idea of the Black Bear program continuing to be updated under different names, with new technology updates. "bourne legacy'
You will be also watching;
“The Bourne Legacy” (4th movie)
and
“Jason Bourne” (5th movie)
There are some that aren’t aware that the “Trilogy” is actually 5 movies, though some can argue that Legacy isn’t really a Bourne movie. I beg to differ because it picks up EXACTLY at the point where the reporter gets shot in the 3rd movie. It’s all relevant.
I would love to interview the choreographer and the stunt men in the fight scenes to see how they were pulled off.
10:50 that is where one of the best movie scenes begins.
The ultimate spy/action movies are these Bourne movies and no one repeat no one could've played Bourne better than Matt Damon. He was perfect in these. 👍
James.... You've just made my day! You'll never know how much I love these movies and how dreadful my day has been. Instant click!! ☺️
Ayyy happy to hear!! Enjoy!
Hope your day gets better
@@smokeyverton7981 Thank you, your message was greatly appreciated. Time for some self care, a good book and an early night. The rest of the week awaits ☺️
My favorite part is when Bourne's on the phone with the director, and the director realizes that Bourne's not in Europe anymore.
It totally forgot that Daniel Bruhl was in this movie, even if it was just for that one scene where Bourne was making amends.
When that "yo yo yo what's up everybody" hits on auto play 💯
Ayyyyy hahahaha that’s pretty cool
"I thought that was 8-mile, no that's 8km"😂
Yesss, this is the best one!
Loved it!
What’s scary about this film is how much of it isn’t fictional. Post 9/11 was a crazy time.
Greengrass, on the commentary I believe, mentions the CCTV scene in the airport feeling like fiction, until their consultant was like “no, that’s totally plausible.”
I would still like to see your reactions on the next two Bourne films
James, bro, don't sleep on Jason Bourne, it has the wildest car chase and the most brutal fight scene.
my favourite is the first one, then the third one and the second one
I love the series. I'm glad so many people are okay with the shaky cam. It really detracts from this film for me, not because I can't follow the action, but because it makes me nauseous. I felt a little sick to my stomach even watching some of these clips here.
I only wish they expounded on what they hinted at with Niki and Jason in the diner. Why she was helping him.
the series goes to a whole end. There's a purpose to all of it so it's worth watching.. the entire series. xo
Great reaction James! It just shows how we should stick to realistic production instead of CG. As humans we need to engage in life in all facets otherwise we'll die out.
EDIT: Well a combination of CG and reality but mostly reality.
Excellent choice!!! :) Hopefully the Bourne Legacy is up next!!!
Good set of films. Good reaction/commentary. The 4th one is well worth a watch, The Bourne Legacy. Got alot of my fav films on here from Tron, War Games to Constantine, Nobody.
Would like to see They Live, Porkys and Police Academy. But not a patreon so if any read this and like to ask, if you like the suggestion . That would be cool. As for the Bat vs Gun well you didn't learn much from V for Vendetta. Anyway take care..
Of course we see Bourne struggle now, third movie, like level 3, he eliminated the easier opponents in the two previous films, now there are only the best of the best left to hunt him ;)
As much as Matt Damon kills it in these movies, I gotta say that David Strathairn does a great job as the NSA director in this. He's very believable.
I've loved Strathairn ever since Memphis Belle. If you ever get a chance, his performance in Good Night, and Good Luck is absolutely incredible!
Loved him in Sneakers. “Remind me to make you an honorary blind person.”
He was a hell of a belter loada too!
The Line" If we were meeting face to face, we would be in your office" The dawning of realization, love it!
@@newfate26 he also kills it in “the expanse”.
Yay! I love this series. I will say, Bourne Legacy and Jason Bourne are definitely worth seeing once, even if you choose not to react to them on the channel. Much love!
Legacy is such an underrated film. Probably my favorite interpretation of Flowers for Algernon out there.
It's even better if you think of it as the back story for MCU Hawkeye.
@@newfate26 Upvoted. I think the overall storytelling is pretty strong with Legacy, and from a writing perspective, integrates beautifully with Damon's storyline. Jeremy Renner does have dramatic chops!
I agree!
“This is always happening in Jason Bourne’s head”.
I think you nailed why the train station scene is such a fascinating “action” scene to me. Because we are simultaneously hearing the stressful, constantly vigilant way in which Jason views the world, while following a much more relatable character in the reporter. It’s easy to remove yourself from the situation when it’s Jason the super assassin fighting another super assassin. But in the train station, it’s a reporter who happened to get in too deep. The audience is way more like the reporter than they are Jason Bourne. So there’s an aspect of “Could I follow these commands perfectly? Could I survive something like this?” And so the stakes feel almost unusually high.
At least for me anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Agreed. Even in the most chaotic situation, Jason is in control. Not of the situation, but of himself, and how he reacts. A very stoic approach
It's such an intense scene. I feel like it really stuck with me more than any other scene except for the very first time we see him fight the two cops.
The "If you were in your office we'd be having this conversation face to face" line....the first time I saw this, just hit so hard!
For real, that is a stand out moment of the entire trilogy for me.. it's a complete "ohhhh shit, you've been had!" Sort of moment that firmly cements the fact that Jason is 10 steps ahead, pulling the strings to make everyone else do what he wants.
“Bourne Legacy” and “Jason Bourne” left. Looking forward to this two🔥
Random comment, but... I appreciate Jason on his earpiece, telling the guy, "East exit... that's on your right as you enter the store." Because I would NOT know which way was east, not while rattled and nervous, and mostly because I'm terrible with north/south/east/west directions. I'm much better with "coming from this direction, turn right on this street, turn left at the gas station," etc. Thank you, Jason, for thinking of every detail. (Lol)
15:36 the reason it never gets old is because this is the exact moment from the end of the 2nd movie. Everything before this in Ultimatum took place before the final scene of Supremacy, a dovetail of sorts
"This feels like a video game." Legit, they made the Bourne Conspiracy game for Xb360 and PS3. I LOVED THAT GAME. Every level was literally peak tension like the movies from start to finish. I have never played a game that kept me on the edge of my seat more and think a lot of people missed out on an amazing experience. It told the story from the first movie intermingled with Jason's original mission to kill the African leader on the boat.
This trilogy was outstanding from the beginning all the way to the end. Even though I’ve seen Bourne legacy and Jason Bourne, I don’t remember either of them. And I haven’t bothered to go back to them either.
I kinda like Bourne Legacy. It's not as good as this trilogy, but I enjoyed it. I did not enjoy Jason Bourne at all. I thought that movie was awful and actually set the franchise back.
"Jesus Christ, that's James vs Cinema!"
😂😂😂
The Bourne Ultimatum is the only film to use shaky cam well in my book.
Chris Stuckmann explained it well in his Problem with Action Movies Today video, about how the film is considered to be one of the best modern action thrillers and yet it is littered with shaky cam.
It suits the concept, with Bourne always on the move, always thinking quickly, so it lends itself to rapid camera movement and editing, but Greengrass demonstrates that the audience should know what is going on, so he throws in the odd wide shot in a fight scene to make the whole experience less confusing and more, you know, you can follow this and know what’s going on.
This is sort of Paul Greengrass's thing. He did a great job with it in Bloody Sunday which lead to him getting the Bourne Gig. Spielberg used a very shaky hand held camera to good effect in Saving Private Ryan. Still he used it sparingly.
Although most think the trilogy is very good, it still feels underrated.
Be sure to check out The Bourne Legacy and Jason Bourne as well. They are quality movies as well.
Well I was watching a movie but when I got this notification I stopped watching a movie I’ve never seen before to watch you watch a movie I’ve seen over and over 😂
Hahaha notification gang for the win. Love y’all 🙏🏽
I love how all of the agents in this series are not only powerful, but borderline Jedi.
Right!? No questions asked, just straight violence.
I like to think about this trilogy as really just a six hour movie. They all fit together so perfectly.
James, would love to hear your thoughts on The Way of the Gun. Lots of great scenes in that movie and Benecio Del Toro is at the height of his power.
Ryan Phillipe telling Sara Silverman off is one of my favorites
Underrated gem of a movie
@@smokeyverton7981 "you baby fucker" 🤣🤣
“A plan is just a list of things that don’t happen” is a mantra of mine
@@TonyTylerDraws in the Marine Corps a common saying was, a plan is only good until the moment you begin to implement it.
Even though The Bourne Legacy doesn't have Jason in it, you still should do a reaction! Great movie on it's own!
That hand to hand combat fight scene after the roof chase is, to me, the greatest, most intense fight scene on film ever
Jeremy did a great job in Legacy, could skip the one after.
What was the best Sir Anthony Hopkins' movie you've seen (besides Silence Of The Lambs)? The Edge, Fracture? Which one?
Fracture…I’ll take it over Lambs
I know it’s not a movie, but the first season of Westworld is a masterpiece.
React to "The Kingdom" with Jamie Foxx. Amazing movie.
When Matt Damon is a beast, he's a darn beast.
No matter the planet either hahaha
Absolutely love this trilogy and they got better each movie, the third one is definitely my favorite! Funny tidbit about this one, there are some real hits in the fight between Bourne and the assassin in Morocco. Joey Ansah, who played the assassin talks about it on Scott Adkins podcast. I´ll link it below. Its absolutely hilarious how he is supposed to push Bourne through the shelf unit, both the action coordinator and Matt Damon were like "its ok you can push me for real" and the shelves are made of breakaway glass, so its supposed to break easy. But for whatever reason it didn't so he basically pushes Damons head into one of them and basically banged him on his forehead LOL. Later Damon got his revenge with a few real punches and elbows as you can see on camera with the whole book hitting. The way Joey tells the story makes it absolutely hilarious! LOL Watch him tell it at 20.57 mark in the video below.
ua-cam.com/video/bc6j3rY8FqY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ScottAdkins
During the "shaky-cam" action sequences in these movies, Greengrass always reorients us by cutting to a wide shot every fifth or sixth cut, that gives us the spacial geography of the characters (or vehicles, if its a car chase) and reestablishes or introduces a change in direction, if there is movement.
I think this "style" sets his films apart from some of the other "shaky-cam" style action movies from the 2000s. I know this is still subjective. I'm sure plenty of folks'll tell you that watching Greengrass's movies is akin to getting rolled down a hill in a barrel, but somebody like Olivier Megaton's movies are the Gibraltar of crystal clear coherence. It's all relative. But for me, I think I see the craft behind the implementation and execution of Greengrass's action sequences. (BTW, I'm using the term "wide shot" pretty loosely here. For the purposes of reorienting the audience, Greengrass may cut from a shot a finger to a shot of the hand, to show you which finger you're looking at. The shot of the hand is still an extreme close up, but relative to the shot before it, it's the "wide shot.")
Dont bother with The Bourne Legacy (2012) but Jason Bourne (2016) again directed by Paul Greengrass is great!
_The Bourne Ultimatum_ is editor Christopher Rouse’s magnum opus. Thank goodness the Oscars recognized him for that.
Do the fifth one! Please. Sets up a possible sixth. Fourth was weird.
Fourth was good, fifth was weird
@@leob4403 you're weird. Only Matt Damon is Bourne.
You should check out another film collaboration with Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon - The Green Zone - a tale from the Iraq war, with an excellent script and cinematography. A great action movie.
A series is a series. Stopping because other people didn't like them, or had doubts you would like them .... That should be a reason to watch them. Go and watch them, you will like them.
For a guy who likes chases and running in films, I'm amazed you haven't done Run, Lola, Run! yet. You're going to love it. It also stars Franka Potente, the female lead in the first two Borne films, and is the film the led her to the Borne series.
This needs more likes! Run, Lola, Run is so damn underrated.
Legacy is definitely worth it !!
The first Bourne movie did fight scenes with shaky cams and quick cuts well. Audiences and critics liked it. The second one overdid it somewhat, making the fight scenes difficult to follow. Various copycats trying to be more Bourne than Bourne with their action scenes also overdid it, with many having fight scenes that weren't just difficult to follow, you literally had no idea what was happening. The third Bourne movie dialed it back a little bit to be more like the action in the first, and it makes the fight scenes so much better!
This is easily my favorite of the Bourne films.
It's got the intensity of the second film and the clarity and ... cleverness of the first. This is the movie where I think Greengrass started to nail his style. He's made some great films, but this is the one where I think he figured out most of the nooks and crannies of his style and tone, cause all of his subsequent films have felt like this one. Supremacy was a bit over-the-top in terms of style... he didn't slow it down enough to let moments have their full weight. This film felt like the director was confident enough to let some of the key moments just sorta hang there for a while and sink in. This has what is easily my favorite fight in the series, and some of the best action overall while still having some really great quiet moments.
You should check out Green Zone (flawed, but technically brilliant) and Captain Philips, which has maybe the greatest held 'action' shot of any film ever. The scene toward the end where Philips is 'rescued' by snipers and the camera just sits there and lets you just watch the fucking nightmare that he has to live through of just sitting there in a liferaft full of dead bodies and he's just fucking screaming... It's fucking haunting.
Hawkeye from the Marvel series takes over for the 4th movie. Damon comes back for a fifth movie it's actually worth watching, but not as good as the first 3 movies.
Ayyy man, I have loved watching you react to this series. Growing up, these were my family’s favorite movies. It brings me back to us gathering in our living room, and watching these with our brand new DVD player. A lot of awful shit happened in my life since then, but that’s a memory I’ll always remember. Thanks man.
Happy to hear you can recall that memory from this film bro. That’s beautiful in itself.
@@JamesVSCinema absolutely, much love James.
13:41 Haha! He really jumped through a window.
Yeah, so did the camera man, lots of people miss that on a first watch through.
Are you going to react to Jason Bourne 2016?
It’s takes place a few years after this one.
Fun fact: My mother went to school with the guy who plays the journalist Simon Ross.
Been waiting for this one...Keep the reactions coming!! One of my fav channels!!
Cheers GJ!
I mentioned Desh In James' last Bourne upload. Speed and strength are important tools of spy craft but experience most of the time means the difference between walking away or saying hello to old Lucifer Morningstar himself...
Edit: 13:33 Love the camera following Jason across the street through the window. In the behind the scenes, the director mentions that he wanted to end the series how it begins with Jason in water.
Finish with “Jason Bourne”? Skip legacy.
Yo bro love your reactions, you should watch the last one it explains more about Jason Bourne and I think good like the rest
Once again I want to recommend the movie "Ronin" if you want something in this genre that is incredibly well done, and has some of the best car chases ever filmed.
The craziest thing about that window jump stunt is the cameraman also made the jump
I’ve seen it a hundred times but the bathroom fight with Desh always hurts my chest. 😳
"Sir, Bourne just drove off the roof"
"WHAT??"
Please react to the last movie “Jason Bourne”! Don’t stop here, there’s one more to go.🙏🏾
One of the best ending of all time...that smirk!!
Please tell me you’re going to react to the 2016 one? Love the vids 💙
I may! Not sure, but I will be watching them whether that’s on or off the channel.
Fantastic. Thank you for reacting to this great trilogy. It’s fascinating to see how Bourne’s skills slowly come back to him and evolve in each of these movies. The final big fight scene, where Bourne jumps through the window and engages with the assassin going after Nicky, is simply stunning. No flashy, Hollywood spectacle. It’s all fighting on pure adrenaline for survival. All the fights were choreographed to be as realistic as possible. These films never get old. They set a new standard for this genre and, imo, nothing since has even come close.
Awesome!! Next one
the bourne legacy with jeremy renner!
The fourth Bourne film is pretty good even though Jason (Matt Damon) does not appear in it. The story is compelling and the action and chase sequences are excellent.
And now The bourne legacy ! a must watch ^^
this movie did shaky cam so well, other directors tried to imitate and did it poorly.
I can't believe how long ago these came out....man I feel old. One of the greatest trilogies in modern cinema.
I absolutely love your channel and reactions! I really hope you watch Bourne legacy. It is really underrated in my opinion. And of course the last one Jason Bourne is good as well.
Happy to hear!!
@@JamesVSCinema James, definitely watch Legacy. You will see many familiar faces and the story goes deeper into the scientific background of these 'programmes'. The action, pacing and style of it is most similar to "Identity" in all of the Bourne movies, it's like a decade younger and technically improved version of it.
Have you seen the Bourne Legacy? Worth a watch with a pretty great original storyline set in the same universe.
Now you got to watch Jason Bourne the fourth movie
You going do jason Bourne the last one the made later?
This trilogy ranks right up there with the best. Great memories watching them in the Cinema. The way I see it the camera work is intentional across all three films. The second film is the most erratic as it's the film where Bourne is the most unhinged and emotional. Consequently, it's also the film where Bourne is the most vulnerable and gets hurt the most.
Love this trilogy so much. You probably don't need to react to the 4th Jason Bourne movie or the Jeremy Renner one, they're both fairly average films and nowhere near the level of this trilogy.
Obscure now, but Albert Finney was in a great movie called Looker. Michael Crichton wrote it. A little dated but relevant with CGI replacing actors.
11:28 yeah that’s actually a thing it’s called trial and it is very impressive you should check it out, the amount of balance and precision needed is beyond imagination
