  • 2015 saw the return of the Alan Thomas Memorial Run organised by WESES and including the assault on the infamous Engine Hill. Here is a bit of on-board footage from the heavy haulage trailer carrying a large beam from a stationary steam engine tackling the hill. Lead engine Burrell compound traction engine 'Excelsior' with Burrell single crank compound road locomotive 'Janet' on the load. Burrell single crank compound traction engine 'Susie' on the bar banking from behind with traction wagon and trailer in tow as well. Quite an impressive load! And it all got a bit tight towards the top too, but we just about managed to squeeze through.

Now that's Driving, the fact they didn't even scratch the paint on those two buss's. And that sound, so wonderful, the engines seemed in good spirits that day.

And what did they do with the beam engine beam when the convoy arrived?
