20:48 “The question of living life to its fullest requires that we know, at all times, the possibilities of what feeling fully means.
And I think that boredom, being turned off, being unwilling to grasp fully, even pain, is a way of keeping us moving in a very prescripted, very narrow, very regimented position, i.e. to fulfill our part of the machine.
When we live in what we are feeling, when we recognize a kind of internal measurement of what is really satisfying, then we’re less likely to settle for that non-life.
And that’s what makes living fully such a potent tool for both change and movement.”

“But when we are silent we are still afraid so it is better to speak remembering we were never meant to survive”

This is brilliant. Also, I've been looking for a high-quality recording of her poem 'A Litany for Survival' and here it is. At ~11:35. Great interview!

Incredible woman. The sad thing is, we’re still having the same conversations about racism today. It’s progressed somewhat, but not to the the extent that Lorde would’ve hoped.

Lorde (and Cook too) is so fricking quick-witted, I would've loved to see her take JBP apart!

    Respect your efforts,
    Respect yourself !
Self Respect leads to Self Discipline!
When you have both, that is real power.
Only whe you are aware of your uniqueness, you can develop a sense of your own Self-Worth!
The strongest action for a woman is to love herself, be herself and shine among those,
    who never believed she could.

Unfortunately the answer is a simple one. Because Joan is a white nepotism baby.

Unfortunately, many of the gains people like Audre Lorde helped make, was "rolled back" .... mainly by the media (...it creates our world view) and by the isolation of Social Media and the Internet.
I know how old this next comment sounds, but I grew up in the 50s, 60s, and went into the military in 1972.
The music industry chose to push THE WORST versions of Rap and Hip Hop. Look at Black people before Rap and after. Two very, VERY cultures.

It is the choice of the people, what media they watch. The real problem is, that many just don't look out for alternaties.

Does a black woman have the right to speak now? LoL

    • @relaxingsounds1386

Yes. Who's refusing black women that today?

    • @Chris-ce7ve

The right is there, the real question is, how many have the guts to do it in public.

The real problem is self sabotage due to a lack of self respect. Helping each other to self respect, self discipline, self reliance and self determination is the key to develop a real improvement.
