Tabletop Terrain for Cheap - PoorHammer 40k
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2015
- Showing off my growing collection of scratch built terrain pieces! I spent a grand total of $20 dollars to make all this terrain with much more on the way. Make it cheap, make it free, make it look amazing on the table and let the battles begin.
PoorHammer 40k is my creative approach to the tabletop miniature game Warhammer 40,000. 40k is REALLY expensive! I'm just trying to make the game a fun experience without blowing a hole in my wallet.

Old computer towers make good scraps for small stuff. Window screen makes good mesh catwalks, small computer cooling fans are great too. Straws and tubes as well. Just so many things to pick it's crazy.
Someone from GW (or other games companies) should gift this man with some goodies! It's guys like this that are the pillars that hold up the base of the hobby and get others interested by showing you how easy and cheap it can be to start playing (aka pay GWs wages) Well done!
thats not poorhammer , that AWESOMEHAMMER!!!
creativity wins :)
Poorhammer at it's best. If you can't be creative what is the point of playing a creative hobby? Home made terrain can sometimes be the best terrain
Ingenuity makes some of the best stuff. My friend and I are doing the same stuff, it's almost as fun as the minis.
The printer pieces look cool. A thing to remember is having spaces for models so its fun to play with. Adding walkways can be a simple addition to really immerse the pieces into the gameplay. The helipad is a really fun looking piece.
i love this and your channel. I am a veteran of warhammer 40k. I have played almost every army and i have been into this for almost 10 years.
I have seen less and less fresh players and price and rules are killing the hobby. love what you're doing bro! keep it up!
Thanks! I'll get back to making things as soon as I can!
I kept seeing the same problem at my FLGS as well. Lots of vets, no new guys. People would look, but no buyers, It was too cost prohibitive for lots of new comers I think. Sadly, the shop closed their doors a few months ago.
I wanted to keep playing and I think I found a solution that works for me! Its not 'official' at all, but its a hobby I enjoy and I'll find a way to keep going!
GW Legal Team is inbound to deploy EXTERMINATUS. Cool stuff though. Like the gears.
they look good and I think you did well on your projects you've inspired me to build my on terrain.
ha, love the fallout billboard... and the rest. very cool, creative terrain pieces
Loved the comm station and the Aegis defense line idea, well thought!!
Nice use for junk stuff! Gives me ideas, fersure, for all my old stuff. Thanks, and keep having fun! Waiting for more vids from you!
+13thBear I'll be having some more videos coming up soon. Life... uh... finds a way (of getting in the way of making videos!)
That last piece looks like a wonderful power plant to me (Generatorum, perhaps), especially if it were a little taller, a very good start for junk parts! I get lots of parts out of my junked laptops (I'm computer-hostile...) and old PC's that are just tossed by various companies at a local landfill (I end up leaving with a few pounds of clean junk every time), and I cruise the area's businesses asking to take for their scrap "whatever" containers. It saves me much money for materials and provides me with hours of fun building out of the ordinary terrain pieces for myself and even manage to get a few commissions for specific pieces from various gamers I meet at local gaming venues. Thanks very much for making it worth my while to do the above by advertising about home-made terrain (I make a tidy little profit from scrounging)! Keep up the good work, and keep proving that WH40K is NOT an elitist game for those who know how to save money!
Love the ethos - I make up sets of 'soldiers' with terrain, vehicles etc that I give away to kiddies so keeping costs down matters. Currently building a 'space base' (I would have loved one when I was 10) and this approach turns out some pretty cool stuff. Thanks for sharing the inspiration
Totally awesome terrain pieces!!! Fantastic work at recycling all those printer parts man!
Fellow Arizonan! This was an awesome vid. I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with an idea for a satellite dish! Also, I love the sprue tower you made. I knew I hung on to that mountain of sprue for a reason! Keep these vids coming!
+Michael Marines Thanks! I had an idea and I ran with it, I think it turned out surprisingly well. Keep gaming.
Inspired by your video and those of others, I have started making my own terrain out of odds and ends and serious scratchbuilding. Thank you!
Love the manifactorum made from the printer parts. It looks great. The defence line is great too
great work and I've only seen about half of this one video so far - very creative , and we all need more terrain no matter what the game(s) we play - or even for dioramas for display in which one usually wants it all to be "scratchbuilt" anyway. Great stuff, cool channel, I subscribed and surely will enjoy and get some great ideas from you. Thanks and keep it up , please. PS - its ALWAYS gonna be better than a stack of books being a "mountain" etc just to get impassible terrain/cover. Also the more I'm looking at your stuff I'm seeing room for detailing (i know you know this but just saying it could be "many levels" of detail and that's something you could work on over time , but as soon as it's "passable" to you it's ready to use! Great stuff. The steampunky looking stuff could look amazing with a bit more detail. PPS - that;s the best looking old printer I've ever seen. Seriously that piece is hella nice. Keep it up - thanks again!
That is some pretty good Terrain pieces, I've made buildings out of pop sickle sticks, foam board, & cardboard but never anything so ornate
Real men drink Sunset Sarsaparilla
no real man drink from Vault 13 canteen
@@corvuscorax9028 you take a sip from your trusty vault 13 canteen
small world! I live in AZ as well. Cool video dude. Played 40k a while back but now I play warmachine and I'm getting into Malifaux and Infinity.
That's freakin' awesome! :D
The barricade / defense line looks really nice.
I have got 2 printers tore apart now ,wow a lot of peices and different from printer to printer.but defiantly some jewels hidden in their.but by far the plastic sprockets alone was worth the trouble cool stuff for my iron warriors chaos spawn
For a Tyranid army just glue actual bugs on your base. stag beetles for carnifex, giant mantis for hive tyrant, hornets for flying gaunts, big ants for gaunts, spiders for gene stealers etc
you are a sick puppy
Release live bugs on the table to add some difficulty.
I gotta admit I usually hate people that bring cheap shit to the table (especially models) but this is pretty brilliant.
Love it!!
Great stuff man, this is proper recycling :)
great ideas and terrain...and your paint job on them is well done making them really set the mood :-)
+Sgt Oddballz Thanks for the compliment and for subscribing! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to paint terrain, its a lot different than painting minis. I'll keep making these videos!
my gw once combined the terrain pieces that they sold and combined it with spare sprues it looked awesome and i kinda miss it
Super job!!
This was an awesome video good job
the clamshell fort looks great!
+ziljin WOW. didn't even notice the antenna was made out of sprue,
nice job. I've kept old toy soldier sand bags and made guard towers out of popcicle sticks and walls.
Fantastic job 👍 😎
Really inspired by this! And I have a spare printer somewhere and pc fans / heat sinks 😃
Youre just like Macgyver, except for Terrain only xD subscribed !
Cool ideas ... thanks for showing ;-)
This was excellent! I'm now sad I through away an old printer 6 months ago. 😣
This is amazing terrain, man Good freaking job! What are the bases made of?
I've got terrain templates that are FREE to download and print here:
www.40kaddict.uk/2011/02/terrain-is-everything-standard-template.html
Some are simple boxes that are pre-printed LoS blockers whereas the others are untextured and a little more complex. All just require printing out and sticking to foam or cardboard, cutting out and building.
I'll also be running a competition in a few months to win an Imperial Knight for the best picture of my terrain in use so well worth having a crack at it.
14seconds in and I see glucose tablet tube vent. I have been trying to some up with some use for these!
This is inspiring
This is the best use of an Epson printer I've ever seen
The fallout sign for nuka cola is amazing!
+meathead595 Thanks! Look for weird stuff and make it your own! It doesn't really fit the fluff, but I couldn't pass it up!
***** I got fluff for everything....
Tyranids brought it xD
no offense but I thought the camo on the helipad looked more like chipped off pieces of building. still all looks like top notch material :)
Where'd you get the twisty capon the smokestacks? I found one at a construction site and can't figure out where it came from
may have to steal your radio station idea with the used sprue bits =)
looks really cool + have a lot of empty sprues... cool stuff here =)
+Jessica Pink Go right ahead! Let me know how it turns out.
I admit I somehow didnt recognize them AS sprues at first. Great stuff
I love how its called poorhammer 40k
One way I make my terrain is by deconstructing old nerd guns and using the mechanical bits as buildings
thanks for the idea ! :D
+Hydrö Khaz Modan My pleasure!
Nice 👍 "scrap" rules 😸
Cans, bottles and electrical stuff
Excelente.
Where do u get the thin MDF board u have the buildings on?
Yo you live in Az, I live in North Phoenix, small world
hello brady, great vids, why you gave up them? :'(
corrugated cardboard could make cool garage doors on your landing pad
Can you make some chaos stuff!!!! : )
all u need now is texture on the paint.
It's well worth looking around at printable cardstock terrain, too. Some you can get pretty darn cheaply (like at Finger and Toe), and some is completely free (try Toposolitario)! All you need do is download the files, print out as many as you want and build them up. Toposolitario has some really cool shipping container-base terrain, which you can just print onto a sheet of office paper, trim and fold into shape in a couple of minutes...

So what I heard was buy cheap printers to make my WH40k terrain. $50=$200 worth of terrain. Now THATS a pro tip. Will probably drop by the local good will to see what I can buy for this now. They almost always have some old tech junk that is so out dated it can't be used anymore.
if you like Fallout and wargaming, try a game called "This is Not A Test"... pretty much fallout, and ur terrain will be fine and you can use your Orks as Mutants, cheers brady well done
Have you tried buying some primer?
i cry for you !
What are the bases made of?
The basic ideas are sound enough but your weathering, basing and finishing has some room for improvement.
Some time spent watching tutorials on washing and dry brushing techniques and rust streaking would pay dividends.
A bit of graffiti and a few rivets may help too. Everything is just that little bit too clean and ‘ unlived in’ looking.
Is that like Masonite board I was about to buy a quarter inch 1x12 of that material
+dani cool Masonite is a specific name brand for MDF, they make all kinds of fiberboard. So go ahead and grab it! Better yet you can probably find some good sized scraps for free at a construction dumpster or a lumberyard. PoorHammer is all about enjoying the hobby and keeping it affordable!
I LOVE Terrain from junk/trash
you should have sanded it a little and scratched things up to give it damage
Poorhammer, Richideas
Thats sic as fuck
Not too bad for a beginner.... Keep practicing.
Cool for poor!
Noice
i play DnD but im here bc "poorhammer"
Does anyone know the name of the Song in the Background?
it's a track called 'big black cockles and muscles' by a band called Bigwig's fluffy bum.
What's mdf you said you went out and got a bunch a mdf
+dani cool Thanks for the great question! MDF stands for "Medium Density Fiberboard". It usually comes in 3x5 ft sheets in 1/4" thickness at your big box hardware store. Its fairly cheap, I paid $5 US for a full sheet. I use it for all my my terrain bases because its sturdy, easy to cut and handle, and it a little bit porous which is good for gluing.
I'm planning on doing a lot more videos for Warhammer 40k and tabletop terrain, so look forward to them in the coming weeks.
what was the bases made out of
+Bob Walker I used 1/8" inch MDF boards. I bought the material at Home Depot for $5 and cut it myself with a coping saw and sanded the edges down.
Thanks for the question!
Nice terrain 👍 I know this unnecessary but I also live in Arizona
love thus channel bro check out my fb I just stated, would appreciate feed back, awesome peaces bro
i dont understand how these buildings have to do with Warhammer 40,000
TerrainGaming the idea is to have terrain to maneuver around (Line of Sight, Cover, etc)
I make and sell stuff.working on some badass ork terrain and vehicle with LEDs. Interested...hmu
