I was obsessed with this game as a kid. Obsessed. I wasn't very good at games so I didn't touch the missions I would literally just pick a car and drive around for hours and hours on end. So cool to see one of my fave youtubers do a video on it
Same, I must've spent thousands of hours just wandering around in cruise mode. I used to "practice driving" by trying to follow the rules of the road because I was so excited to grow up and get my driver's license one day lol. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Dude I remember RUSHING home from the last day of 6th grade to play this game. I was so obsessed. I spent countless hours playing and perfecting jumps and all that. Good times man, good fucking times
3:23 Funny story! I grew up in the French country side and I played a LOOOOOT of midtown madness as I child (Remember getting the game as a bundle with the Xbox and Halo:Combat Evolved). Anyway, I played MM3 for quite some time as a 10 yo. Flash forward a few years, my parents take me to Disneyland and to Paris for a week. It was also their first time getting there. And they were COMPLETELY lost! You probably guessed where I am going with this, and you'd be right. I was able to pinpoint them in the right direction for almost every sightseeing spot of the city. As this UA-camr said, the map wasn't perfect, but all the elements were right where they needed to be in relation to one another, and that really helped us out during this first Parisian trip :D
As someone who only played this for the first time in 2020 I can say this game is unbelievably GOATed. The gameplay contrast between the two cities, the myriad of missions, vehicles, & unlocks, the handling, ability to use custom soundtracks, etc. Just overall super enjoyable time with it. I need to try the online at some point through Insignia too since I'd imagine that'd be super fun.
I'm old enough to remember when this was a new release, after having played the first two games on my old PC. I felt like I was one of the few people to fondly remember this game.
Such a classic! I bought an xbox bundled with halo and MM3, and me and my cousin would meet up every weekend and just cruise around in this game, racing, playing tag, while listening to tunes. Those were the days! Lol
I know you mostly have done shorter form content on this channel with an emphasis on large vehicles but I'm happy to see you do something entirely different. The Midtown series really did pioneer the free-roam arcade racer and it deserves more attention.
Fun fact: The name "Klant" in the Stunt Driver series is most likely put there by the Swedish developers at DICE as a small easter egg for the Swedes playing, as "Klant" is the Swedish word for "doofus"!
Midtown madness, I loved that game. Just few weeks ago I kind of remembered playing that game but I couldn't remember the name; Few years later there was another open world racing game situated in LA or SF I think, don't remember that name either [edit: it was the game "L.A. Rush" ... was surprised by the size of the city you were able to drive around. Was very good for the time it was published!)
I don't watch long videos unless I'm *really* interested and I have to say, I enjoyed every minute of this having watched it to the very end. I felt high during the Midtown Madniverse segment and really enjoyed that too. To me it's your voice and humor that kept me watching so, I'm looking forward to much more great content! Thanks! ^-^
I haven't finished the vid yet but I have to say: my best friend and I played this game so much in middle school and we had NO CLUE about the metro tunnels! I gotta pull my Xbox out and go explore these maps again bc obviously I missed a lot 😂! Great vid, I've been waiting for someone to do a retrospective on this gem!
1:19:17 If I recall correctly, you could also access the fast-motion oldtimey filter in Paris by looking up inside the entrance of the Moulin Rouge. I also agree that Midtown Madness 3 was a great game. I think it's the only video game I 100% completed, including all the paint jobs and the two special cars. My biggest complaint about MM3 was that the cars on the highways travel at a snail's pace (40 km/h or something) which makes it impossible to drive realistically on the highway when cruising around. In MM1 and 2 the AI cars did travel at highway speeds on the highway.
Genuinely a great video. Loved Midtown Sadness 2 specifically, but I really thought this was a 12 minute video aaaand at 2AM it dawned on me I was 53 minutes deep and had to finish it today. Thank you for your content. Great stuff. 🎉
this brings back very distant memories. i know for a fact that i've played this game a lot on the xbox but watching this video barely brings back the feelings i felt when exploring the world of this game. it had a really unique "vibe" and i didnt do a lot of races but spent a lot of time in the open world
I'm glad you mentioned this Video in your more recent one. UA-cam apparently just decided not to notify me of it at all and I would have missed an excellent and funny indepth review
I always assumed Mathilda was also a secret agent, going through the same steps as you to get the badge. Explaining why she always follows you from job to job. Then over time, as you consistently win every challenge and race Toeman kicks her out and focuses on you instead. This video really unlocked some hidden nostalgia I didn’t know I had, thank you for reminding me of this gem.
This game brings back so many memories. I remember my cousin gave me his Xbox for Christmas one year and I used to play Midtown Madness very frequently. I was very young at the time and too incompetent to do the storyline, so I just took advantage of my cousins save file with all vehicles unlocked and just drove around.
i am french, and it's only midway trought watching this video that i realized that i actually played midtown I & II on my dads old very bad laptop years ago, but i never remembered the name of the game, sincei didn't speak english at the time, and the title of the game was just nonsence to me. I am so glad you linked this video at the end of your german trucking video, what a throw back to my childhood, thanks so much for this !
Yup, this 100% the game i played a LOT when i was a kid, a game i don't how many hours did i play but i remmeber playing a lot of it, i remember watching the extras videos and the guy that jumped to the side to avoid the car, remember wanting to jump the river and played the game to get a fast enough car that i could do it, i remember to just drive around and explore, it's all a fuzz since i only had like 4 years or so but i had forgotten this game until i found it again on an spontaneous memory. Remember having lot's of fun with it, wish i could go back and be a kid again, i missed out on a lot of things. on a lot of things. a lot of them.
Dude, thanks for making this video. Loved this game as a kid - I think my favourite thing was hooning the buses around DC! still have my copy somewhere but haven't been able to play it since upgrading to the 360 all those years ago...
Great vid! Decided to watch it again just cause it deserves the extra view. I'd love to see you cover the car-spiracy you mentioned around 14:40, that'd be a really interesting topic
Wow this is very different from your normal content and 100x longer but it has the same quality or even better I really liked this video and it's a very unique topic, cool job dude
So I went to take out some garbage and have a smoke around halfway through the Washington DC missions and forgot to pause the video. When I eventually came back inside, it was around the Midtown Madniverse section. Needless to say I was a slightly confused, but absolutely entranced by the sudden shift of tone. Absolutely amazing video, I played the shit out of this when I was in 5th grade.
Good to see you uploading again! This brought back memories, played tons of midtown madness 1 and 2 and always wanted to try midtown madness 3 but sadly Xbox were not sold in my country at that time.
I had so much fun playing this as a kid in the multiplayer lobbies. This game, driver, forza, and stuntman were definitely my top racing games as a kid.
Wow, loved the video and will definitely try to find a copy again. Threw mine away a couple of years ago by accident during a move. Thanks for the great video!
6:18, this is the Avalanche from Motorhead, great game developed by Dice a few years prior to MM3. Daaaamn, that is definitely a pretty cool easter egg.
I remember me and my brother got an Xbox for christmas. And MM3 came with it. It was instantly our favorite game and we played it so much. Really loved the career mode but oh boy was it difficult for young me. I really hope I can play it again someday somehow.
Watched this over a long lunch after being goaded by your other videos. Well worth it! Would love other game deep dives in addition to automobile videos.
I remember the first time I played this game was in a Best Buy, and I immediately LOVED IT! Months later I received it as a gift and spent countless hours playing it, especially the cruise mode. I wanted to grow up so fast and I really think this game helped me pass the drivers test the first time, in addition to being comfortable with driving in general.
when this was uploaded I didn't pay much attention because I'm here mostly for da trucksss, but now I'm 10 mins in and I already have brought a pack of doritos, an instant soup and a fanta to enjoy the rest!! great content man I love it❤
So much nostalgia. The music is burned into my brain. I was terrible at the missions, almost exclusively played free roam and my cousin helped me finish the missions.
I googled "primordial terradoctrine" and you seem to be the first person to have ever uttered this phrase lol 😂 great vid, and definitely deserving of 15 billion views a minute
Ahhhh omg I rented this from a local store when I was like 4 and it completely slipped my memory. The mini cooper on the cover brings back big memories
I was a teen when I got midtown madness for my windows 98 pc. It was one of my favorite games for the computer. Then got 2 a couple years later and was impressed by how many more cars you can choose from plus two maps lol then got 3 and was blown away from the graphics. Watching this video I still think 3 looks good.
I seem to recall the Mustang fastback had handing issues as well. If I remember correctly it was mainly because the steering wheel turned slow. So it took too long to go from straight to turning.
1:18:59 In regards to the Asp, it's a reference to one of DICEs earlier games on the PS1: Motorhead. The model used in MM3 is a direct rip from the PS1 hence why it looks so simple and weird.
I figured this would be a decent video, but I underestimated your skills! You did a great job, and I for one welcome a sequel on a dimming Mercury! P.S. The second sentence on the thumbnail is harder to read on some formats of video list on mobile devices, and without that it looks more like an upload of an hour and a half of gameplay. That put it towards the end of my video queue, to my now regret. I’m sure most of your trouble was just the algorithm, but that might have compounded things a little.
I remember there’s a seem on the wall of the metro in one of the maps that has no collision detection so you’ll phase right through it and fall into the abyss. I remember that segment is “outside the map” if viewing the minimap.
My OG Xbox came with it and Brute Force - and is the game I played most while in school. Glitching police into multiplayer spiced things up a bit, as did the high speed and sketch style easter eggs. The Serpent MKII ended up being my favourite car. It is also the only game which I always copy to the HDD of it and my newer Xbox (if they aren't upgraded). It has been the same for the DLC - I copy them to each Xbox via FTP on what was my grandmother's first laptop with a crossover ethernet cable.
Thank you for covering my favorite game. I’ve always wished that Rockstar or Microsoft could revive either series for Midtown Madness 4 or Midnight Club 5. I have since gotten into basically every other racing franchise, but the only game I’ve ever played that came close to the same level of simple fun is Beam Ng. While it can’t ever have licensed vehicles in it for crash physics, the sandbox and cruising aspect of that game give me hope that there is a lot more to come in the world of open world arcade / physics, urban style, metropolitan racing through traffic, more games akin to the Project Gotham Racing series as well. I love GT, NFS, and FM/FH, but I just haven’t seen that level of variety of vehicles in any other racing game. Beam Ng already has busses, semis, taxis, etc, so just having someone make Midtown Madness or Driver style cities, I would pay for that.
You playing as Angelina in the France storyline and playing as Mathilda in the US storyline makes sense, Mathilda in the France storyline already gave a stalker vibe and seemed suspicious of the player character's role as a secret agent, this trait of a stalker was called out by Angelina towards the player character many times. This may explain why Mathilda was casual about inviting the player to street races with her clique, she's already acquainted with the player character back from the US, when the player character was the rival character Angelina. The reason they've been sent off to the same jobs together is because the detective agency, if not also the secret service had the same leads.
Wow practically no watched this compared to other your videos. for what it's worth I may one of the only one to watch the whole video thank you for making the video LGR teased but never gave us.
Cruise Mode was my play ground. I can’t tell you how many hours I would just drive around in the rain. D.C. was my preferred map, but Paris was just as fun with the small cramped streets, especially being chased by local police. The selection of vehicles was so cool, I loved driving the Cadillac Escalade, the suspension physics were something I really appreciated as a kid playing this game, and it really kindred my love for free roam automotive games as a whole. GTA IV specifically. Midtown Madness 3’s “Paris Freemode Theme 1” is burned into my brain, it’s fantastic. It screams early 2000s. Anyway, this game will always have a special place in my heart beside Halo Combat Evolved, and Halo 2.
This is the first time ive heard of this game but i wouldve loved to play this even today! It reminds me of BeamNG and some style of old police games i used to play
Oh my GOD that was amazing. I’m really glad to have heard about this video in your most recent vid because it passed me by upon release. Thank you very, very much Yukon.
Along with Project Gotham Racing, Midtown Madness was abandoned by Microsoft, despite the studios from those games doens't exist anymore, they should contract new people to bring new games.
Oh God, I lost so much time to this game. I got an Xbox as a DVD player, but it came with this game and many's the day when I would just put the disc in and race around DC for hours. It was a lot of fun. I dunno how it would do if released today in comparison to GTA, but if they ported it to the Xbox One, I would absolutely replay it out of sentimentality...
I was obsessed with this game as a kid. Obsessed. I wasn't very good at games so I didn't touch the missions I would literally just pick a car and drive around for hours and hours on end. So cool to see one of my fave youtubers do a video on it

Saaaame. Crashing everything and driving away from the cops and doing stunts.
I used to do this with Midnight Club 2 back when I was a little kid. Once I found the cheat codes I never touched the career mode
Dude I remember RUSHING home from the last day of 6th grade to play this game. I was so obsessed. I spent countless hours playing and perfecting jumps and all that. Good times man, good fucking times
Me too

I was so unprepared for the "Midtown Madniverse" lmao, worth the watch!
I'm glad at least one person made it to the end 😂
They went through all that to recreate the PT Cruiser 💀
@Yukon. but hey, yukon. What's your opinion about Alan Fisher?
Yukon's crack addiction knows no bounds, what da fak was that whole section of the video lmao
(I want more, it was amazing)
@@Yukon.I look forward to you explaining the next game theory with that ominous voice.

Man it's been over a decade since I've herd the term "flaming homosexual" I lost it there.
I remember in high school around 2010 people would use the term "flamer" as a derogatory name. I hope high schoolers don't do that anymore lol
@@CadgerChristmasLightShowYou're hoping high schoolers no longer do something? Have you forgotten they are high school students?
@@CadgerChristmasLightShowAs someone tht graduated in 2017 and has younger cousins in high school, I can confirm that they indeed do.

Awesome to see you branching out into other content. Also I might be a minority on UA-cam but I love longer content :).
Great video! I'd forgotten about this game and upon seeing the police missions, 27:21 my memory of this game finally clicked into place 🤣
Midtown madness, I loved that game. @@misterspeed118 no, it was L.A. Rush

I loved this game growing up and even managed to unlock the "Asp" and the other secret car.
This game is what made Prowlers seem cool to me for about ten years.
I blame rap music on BET and MTV for my liking of those rat-rods
midtown madness TWO was the game that made the PANOZ roadster much cooler than the prowler for me as a kid
I remember a game having the concept car with a V8 as a kid, and was so disappointed to find out it had the pentastar V6 later on.
congratulations on the gap between you and the guys from Lyon

Beam Ng already has busses, semis, taxis, etc, so just having someone make Midtown Madness or Driver style cities, I would pay for that.
I laughed really hard every time I saw that you edited the license plates. Great video!
I'm here for the video game review arc of your career.
I still remember a lot of the lines the Scandinavian terrorists say, which I think says something about the writing
Best review of this game on UA-cam. It would be cool to see you review another classic Xbox game like PGR, Forza, Juiced, Burnout, etc
Just reached 51:00 - and do we have here a continuity/sequel/prequel thing between MM2 SF stunt driver role and what we are doing here in MM3?!?
holy shit i forgot about this game, it was one of my favourites as a kid
This is the first time ive heard of this game but i wouldve loved to play this even today!
It reminds me of BeamNG and some style of old police games i used to play
really enjoyed this video and i'd love to see more like it!!
I still remember going to CompUSA to buy this in 2003 when I was like, 9 with my dad. On a 103 degree day. Core memories
Oh my GOD that was amazing. I’m really glad to have heard about this video in your most recent vid because it passed me by upon release. Thank you very, very much Yukon.
I agree, the humor's innocence was lost VERY long ago. Great video.
Along with Project Gotham Racing, Midtown Madness was abandoned by Microsoft, despite the studios from those games doens't exist anymore, they should contract new people to bring new games.
what a video my friend, even more impressive is your french prononciation
I cant tell you how many hours of Midtown Madness 2 I played in 2000-2002 when I was 11...
I never knew there was a third one haha
Oh God, I lost so much time to this game. I got an Xbox as a DVD player, but it came with this game and many's the day when I would just put the disc in and race around DC for hours. It was a lot of fun. I dunno how it would do if released today in comparison to GTA, but if they ported it to the Xbox One, I would absolutely replay it out of sentimentality...
Never heard of this game. So interesting. I really like retro racing games and this quenched my thirst. So interesting. Glad to see it.
