Great idea to provide updated reviews of locos and rolling stock after some operating experiences on your layout - I'm sure a lot of folk will find this very helpful.

I agree, more should do this as it gives us longer term feedback as well as the manufacturers potentially finding things their own testing could not because there's so many variables to consider. Comparing future batches as well to see if any improvements or regression occur.

The first Midland Mainline HST, for me. I have to admit, that’s based on having collected the full 8 coach set, and obviously the 2 power units. Gives a satisfyingly long train. I have to say though, my favourite livery, was a non livery. The naked Pendolinos I saw coming through Macclesfield totally blew me away. What a beautiful train. Sometimes less is more.

I just Impulse bought a Farish HST with 8 coaches this morning in Great Western livery, can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it. I am sleeping next to the letter box for next 2 days and will be living on bread and water for a month.... ;p.. GNER looks great for me, so does First Great Western. I think that lots of White on the models really makes them look Naff, very plastic and toy like, same with white Pullman roofs. Lots of white on the Great Western I just bought, but I doubt I will brave enough to chance weathering it. Great Vid as always. I will be very pleased if I can get my layout as half as good as yours... It's like living artwork.. Keep up the good work.

Hi Dave, excellent video as usual. I really like the idea of a later follow up video on your new models. It really annoys me when all these online companies ask for feedback 10 minutes after its been delivered. I always try and use any product for a while before I take the time to provide some feedback. Happy modelling!

I like the reflective aspect of the model review - we’ve all been there with the excitement of a new model “it’s the best” but the reality of running a loco or rolling stock after a few weeks is really useful.

We seem to see a lot of the same parts of the layout in your videos, it would be nice to see the trains running around the layout over longer distances and therefore seeing the rest of the layout at the same time, not a criticism just a observation.

Great video again Dave. My lner dvt has that blob on the roof. I'm emailing hornby to see what their response will be otherwise it'll be weathered out somehow. The gner coaches do look very nice but the interior is just plain, I'm afraid it's another painting job if you're fitting lights and passengers, however I do enjoy doing that sort of job during the winter months atb Andy

Don’t accept it. It’s not cheap and it should therefore be spot on. These issues seem to surround the LNER ones, more than the rest.
Let hornby have it!! They need to know models they pay the factory for are coming out damaged.

As someone who grew up alongside the WMCL (within throwing distance of the Vulcan Locomotive Works (or as my late dad called it-The Deltic Maternity Ward)), I’d love to see any example of the Class 81’s to Class 85’s plying their trade around such an excellent late. Nice video. Having a few different topics is a great solution to avoiding any particular one 'dragging' at all.
The updates on reviews is indeed an excellent idea. Most reviewers 'review and run', so the flaws are never picked up. For a few reviewers, that's specifically what they want anyway...

Good to see you did not melt in the heat. I think the original livery is the best for the 91 and like you did not like the GNER blue but looking back I now think it was good and 2nd best they have carried The new revised LNER livery looks great I saw the first set in real, you will have to get down here to York and see one though, I hear the plan to run them to Newcastle has been scrapped. The bushes do look really good and better than ones I have seen ready made. I have made my own and they turned out OK as well as cheaper. The way prices are going we need more tips like this on how to save money. My model shop owner said his sales have now fallen, £50 for a guards van and he has to buy a pack of 4 and £70 for a seacow he fears he will be struggling to sell them.

Another excellent video covering lots of different topics and interests, your control panel looks so professional, I and others are well impressed. Your scratch building and electronics are well equally impressive, it makes things look so real. It's been noticeable how much more money our hobby costs these days, and my modelling skills are definitely no where near your league, so I'm just satisfied to run my Hornby Dublo layout and buy the odd runnable item here and there. Many thanks for sharing Dave, I like the LNER livery that's being used now best.

Another great video Dave. Thanks especially for the Hunts Coupling demo. I’m expecting delivery of my LNER DVT & coaches tomorrow to go with my ‘For The Fallen’ 91 so have ordered up a set of the Hunts Couplings. Having a small 8x5 layout anything which minimises the faff of removing rolling stock from the layout has to be worth the investment. Cheers too for testing out suitable decoders for the DVT. I’ve now got a Dapol Imperium all set to install when the DVT arrives. I think your GNER set looks great. If I hadn’t already financially committed to the LNER stock I’d have liked to add it to my collection too. I may have to be ruthless and sell some stock to reinvest.

Whilst Scottish railways and the ecml have typically been outside of my areas of knowledge or interests generally (growing up in South East London kinda means i have preference for 3rd rail for the most part, though I live in the Warwickshire so am used to the wcml too), i always liked the gner livery quite a bit. Should it be orange or red however? Like I say a bit outside my area, but I thought they were orange unless my memory or colour balance is off?
In terms of virgin liveries i always rather liked the original one they had, suited the former br stock nicely i felt. The modern avanti livery is a bit... well I'm not quite sure what it is!
I really like the returned review, definitely keep this up!

Great update on the layout overall Dave, a really nice looking control panel, the new mk4s and the DVT look nice, I won’t be getting the new mk4s personally due to already having eight of the original ones released by hornby but I will be on the look out for the new 91 and the DVT in swallow and from what I have heard the colours of the new 91 and the old mk4s look the same so when I do get the loco and DVT when paired up with my old mk4 coaches they should make a decent looking train, nice looking trees, I have had my deltic for some time now and I’m very happy with mine but it hasn’t been without issues, my main issue was the chains which I stated in your review of the model I had actually glued the attachments to the body so they don’t fall off, bachmanns new class 37 shows that chains on OO gauge modes can be done much better but overall I’m happy with my deltic and the chains have been much better since my decision to glue the attachments to the body.

I'd consider a GNER rake if hornby would do a 91/0 and the mk4s without the red doors; however, I have a swallow rake and an east coast rake of the older tooling, so I don't really fancy a 3rd 2+9 set. I am however considering a TfW rake with a super detailed 67 to match, since my only 67 is lima and the rake is shorter.

Just a question about something that caught my eye on your videos: Wouldn't the overhead wires on the lower electrified track (if they would exist) be a bit too high to fit through the tunnel at 24:20? Because on the videos it looks like they would. Same with the station roof. This is no critisism by the way, i'm just curious about it.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  2 роки тому

Hi, cheers for getting in touch.
When designing the layout the need for clearance Of the wires was on my mind. I’ve worked it out that the contact wire would clear the roof and tunnel, using the dapol masts as a guide. But there is a bit of artistic licence needed if these were to be fitted.
I was governed by the height of the tunnel portals and height of the raised section.
Model railways… a continued fight between accuracy and comprises :-(
      Cheers. Dave

I was actually looking to grow my own, to have a good continuous supply, but the seeds are restricted and cannot be imported into Australia. I went on to eBay, but again I think there may be restrictions regarding its importation. Any Australian viewers to the channel, or yourself, may have some thoughts perhaps. Is the piano gloss black not difficult to keep clean? Or, once it's set up, do you not have to touch it (in theory) again?
I have purchased some seafoam, but still not used it yet as I've been making trees with dead Meadowsweet (and other wildflower) stems and it grows everywhere! I've been having some success with cheap supermarket dried parsley, corriander, etc for leaves and using cheap hairspray for adhesive. You may have gathered I'm a tight arse!!! You're right though, what you've produced is better looking, and no two the same, than many commercially available trees and bushes. Also been making home made ground foam with yellow car sponges, appropriate shades of tester pot greens and an ebay coffee grinder.
