I'm trying to get to 1000 subs on my other channel, Bigstack Numismatics: / @bigstacknumismatics4965 - please consider stopping over there and saying hello. Have a great weekend!
Like you said, some of us are used to buying at $1200/$16 so buying at current prices is certainly hard for us. My buying of both metals has fallen dramatically and has diverted into other hedges, and have covered it in recent videos. I was shocked last week when my lcs told me what he's paying for gold half sovereigns, and it worked out about 20% under spot. No wonder he hasn't had any gold come in for months!
AHA! Great minds think alike! I just received a King George Sovereign! (Video went up yesterday) I differ with you over silver being a better buy right now, in that, the premiums are so high! A simple generic 1 ounce Buffalo silver is 19% above spot price and Eagles are 50%!! The Sovereign was 6% above spot. I do agree that the GSRatio is out of whack - I need to do a little math to see at what point the low GSR to cost of Premium make silver a good buy?!?!?! Yes the kids - I was fortunate that mom and dad paid for my college and so I did pay for my boys. It was not cheap! Thanks for a great video!
Really good point, silverhair stacker, and I'm heading over to your channel right after this to check out your vid. There are still deals to be found regarding silver, but they are getting harder and harder to find for sure.
I'm with you on wanting to get more gold. But with the cost, it is hard to shell out the money when just a few short years ago, it was so much cheaper. Early last year I made some significant trades of silver (90%) for gold when the GSR dropped down to 65. It worked out very well. I'm not a huge an of the Sovereign's...I have a few but I tend to stay more towards the AGE and Gold Maples right now. However, the cost is a lot more so that's the decision. As a stacker, I am usually in the camp for as much as I can get for as cheap as I can get it so the Sovereigns work for that! BTW, Liberty Coin on eBay is great to use. It wasn't that long ago when using eBay bucks, you could get stuff below spot from them. They still are good to use and I always check there first. Thanks BSM!
Heya TB, thanks for stopping by - I can totally appreciate putting the gold ASEs and Maples ahead of foreign gold coins. I just love Sovereigns because of the low spread, and the fact that they have been making these for more than 200 years. I do remember those days of below spot with Liberty on eBay with eBay bucks...!
I too have made quite a few purchases from Liberty Coin on EBay they generally have very good prices over all. I feel the same about Sovereigns, l really like the history behind them and the liquidity of them. I myself own five of them. I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen Silver Sauras from the UK he’s working on a tube of 50 Sovereigns.
Nice sov to the stack! Much prefer these older sovs compared to the more recent years much better colour. What they call the 'modern sovereigns' have been minted since 1817
Nice “PickUp” BigStack, what is that, a Ford F-150? Oops, no, that’s a Gold Sovereign. Personally don’t purchase any old foreign Gold. Just like Eagles, but the prices are a bit too high right now. Building up the credit card cash back $$$, so I can subsidize the cost.
Hello Victor, I think of you every time I say 'pickup', I hope you know, lol. I promise you, it is part of the vernacular where I am from ;) Gold Eagles are crazy expensive right now - I use credit card cash back, like you, to subsidize buying gold and silver. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice pick up. Thanks for the updates.
You bet lpandy, thanks for stopping by!
Absolutely love you , Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't collect sovereigns but love seeing them. All the different obverse choices, all the different mint marks and the history.
The history is amazing, for sure - this type of coin has a more than 200 year history!

Heya CCT - are you serious, your lcs is paying under spot for gold?! WTH!

Awesome.
Thanks Julius Caesar!
1911 is a common date and most minted around then were not circulated. My valuation today about £400.

Liberty coins is my favorite place to shop for fractional gold. A lot good deals
Liberty has always done right by me, and I continue to buy from them for sure. Thanks silver fan21
How much ballio in the philippines
Fractionals, it's called melt, not spot. Don't ask me why.
Good point Pathetic Prepper - have a good one!
@@BigstackMcgee I have enjoyed your vids over the years. Thought u disappeared, very glad u haven't. 🙂
Haven't bought silver for a long time, glad I bought when it was 11-12 I look back on my gold and glad I bought when it was 900-1000 an oz,nice pick up
Hey Timber Hills, your gold purchases have doubled - well done!
I've only bought one small gold coin so far this year myself, Bigstack. An 1899 Russian 5 ruble. Prices are too high.
Sovereigns go back to 1817.
Hi MétéoMan - ah, 1817 is the starting date for the gold Sovereigns, thank you for the info. Prices are definitely high, it is hard to buy.
@@BigstackMcgee Surprise, I bought a 1975 Krugerrand today under spot. I could choose from a group of 10 and one was flawless. Couldn't help myself.
No matter how old your kids are, you’ll never stop paying for them 😂
Haha, so true Running Eagle ;)
I buy 99% of my silver off eBay.And I have nothing but good things to say about buying there.
I've bought off of there to,not sure why people are scared of it
Hey Daddy Silver Bucks, I completely agree with you - as long as you do your due diligence in researching the seller, eBay is an incredible resource.
