6:42 Eljay what are you talking about? Of course him t-posing has a good chance at winning, he’s asserting his dominance! Jokes aside though it’s got to be a pain in the tailpipe to know that you can’t actually position his arms in any other way than that for all of eternity unless you use completely different parts.
Thank you so much for putting in the work to finish this off! Your neurotic completionism strikes again and I am here for it. Hiker Mike is so fun, though Robotops makes me angry for easily-fixed colour scheme issues. Like switching that black piece with that white piece. Anyway, I'm glad that these happened, if only so Hiker Mike could happen. I really want some of these sets just for parts... Just a few additional comments: - "I admire... the attempt." I have never in my life heard "bless your heart" unsaid so loudly. - "I'm a sucker for dinosaurs." Man, that last Lewa-on-Bota-Magna story was cancelled specifically to spite you, huh? I'm also a sucker for dinosaurs, to be fair. - "What. The. Heck." I sincerely hope that all of the trials and tribulations you have had with this lego-line have been worth that punch-line.
@@matthewbrown7834 it's a meme. People in the bionicle fandom found him one of the worst sets because of the bland colour scheme (grey and white), overly specialized pieces, and basic design. So some people started to ironically consider him the 'best' and a god among men as a joke.
When you can't help but like how Dynamo looks despite seeing what a mess it is. It may just be nostalgia since I had Blaster so I saw some of the instructions for Dynamo and I always wanted to build it but I couldn't. x)
Doing the good work here, thanks for these. I remember as a kid, only getting Energy and Turbo/City (yes I live in Europe), the combiner-models looked so epic in the brochures and posters. It probably had a lot to do with nostalgia, the fact that the theme was cancelled and Slizers/Throwbots seemed more rare and desirable because of it, and me being 8, but I always wanted these so bad. Looking at them now, irl, with no digitally rendered background or effects, they are kind of a let down honestly xD Its like a "don't meet your heroes-situation" I guess. Kinda glad I never bothered to buy these used as an adult. I thought "Robotops" looked like an epic titan, yet more alien and and cooler than the Toa Kaita (which was my comparison as a kid). Now I'm thinking he looks like a mish-mash of parts thrown together by a child who spent 10 minutes on building an action-figure from a random assortment of parts "Ultrarex" I thought was really cool too. I liked how one of the combiners was like a monster while the other was like this giant robot-dude. Now I'm thinking it just looks like a mis-proportioned chicken lol. His legs is like, 80% of the build! Never knew "Dynamo" existed until today haha, but yea.. He looks more like a typical "Lego technic-combiner" than the previous ones. Obviously Lego got a bit more practice with designing these combiner-concepts. But I don't like how he is 50% that yellow big dude. The purple one is almost not in there at all, just emphasizing how he is (in my opinion) the most uninspired, basic slizer. And ofc they are all much smaller than I expected :D
Just won a bid on all 8 of the first slizers with their canisters, discs, and instructions for $41 USD. Granted, Granite was missing a pickaxe and Turbo had a 6 length axle in the center of his torso instead of a 5 length, but I can easily replace those parts myself. I don't really plan on getting the rest though, since Millenium isn't all too great and the mutants aren't quite my thing. I will be building combo models with them, mainly the official ones (With Hiker Mike, but I'm going to use a different color of the antenna attachment part to keep it purely a combo model only.) and some of my own ideas. Like combos of just 2 or 3 of the slizers, and a combo that has them all in it. I didn't grow up with the slizers, but I DID grow up with Lego Mation Studios' reviews on them. So I've got... secondhand nostalgia? I don't know what else to call it.
Bethany Heck: Where is she now? - I never knew about two of these combo models, and I'm somewhat surprised that Millennium was never invited to the Combo Party with the other sets. As a kid the most prominent and iconic to me was Robotops, as he was seen several times in the magazines and catalogs and I owned the full sized poster (the others were on posters too but I suppose in different set releases and most of mine were originally from the first wave where Robotops was possible to build). As for Hiker Mike, I remember glancing at it in the magazines once or twice, but didn't remember it as a contest-winning entry. At that time (as I sit in my rocking chair at 25 years old), many kid designs were featured in each magazine, not just the Cool Creations section but as combo builds or alternate builds with step-by-step instructions. So I figured it was another one of those, no contest required. - Quite a lot I learned here, thanks for sharing these combo builds! I think I like Robotops and Hiker Mike best of all.
Honestly, for the last one - Dynamo - these 2 black gears he has floating on his left arm, should have been used in the blaster legs, just like the Robotop has, to add gear function and rigidity. It would compensate for that top heaviness. It would require a bit of organization for the axles and the twisting roll in the feet, but I think there's enough parts there to re-fiddle everything into place!
The real question is she now a bionicle fan, and thus by extension, a ttv fan? Is she here right now? She could be any one of us. She could be in this very comment section. She could be you, she could be me, she could even be-
The yellow Slizer is so much more pose-able if you use 4 blue pins on the feet instead of the grey pins and the black sticks. It can actually walk now and it is a scary ass looking titan, even next to the Toa
If you deviate from the “official instructions,” you can build Hiker Mike using the sets pictured if you use part 32039 Technic Connector with Perpendicular Axle Joiner and a 2-Axle instead of the rogue Part 6553 Technic Pole Reverser Handle pictured
Eljay, I’ve been watching your content for years now and I’ve always been wondering if you’d ever get to reviewing Hero Factory sets as they are an important part of the CCBS builds?
Alas he is retiring Retired Reviews, so no other lines are planned for the immediate future. Nonetheless, the further future may indeed hold Hero Factory, though I personally am hoping for Exo Force or Knights Kingdom II first. Unless he starts with HF Year 3, which was just a Bionicle year in disguise and I loved it.
Having all four of these on my Slizer shelf, I fully agree that Hiker Mike is the best one. Kinda sad that the fan creation is somehow significantly more competent than the official combos. That Blaster one is just so... Oof, I really can't stand it, it's so bad :(
Where can the instructions be found? I checked lego website, but all their PDFs contai the same fragment, basically 4 instructions have only the first steps, rather than each next having consecutive parts...

Not by the official build. But personally, when I put it together, I just flipped the shoulder sockets upside down.
Dang I didnt think it was possible for blaster to get thiccer
You could say EXTRA THICC
Also gotta love Robotops asserting its dominance by T-posing
Lol yeah. In retrospect, It's even harder to take that build seriously now, what with memes and whatnot...
Slizers actually look pretty darn interesting albeit not teh best, kinda wish I was born earlier, only old enough for roboriders

I'm really glad i ended up getting the evil Slizers, although i still wish i gotten spark to complete the Mutants.
Hiker Mike is so cool, he wears shades. On his feet.
I love how you sound so taken aback at the fact that this theme had a fanbase, as if other LEGO themes before Bionicle ever had one.
It's a bit more complex than that, but I don't have time to explain. I'll elaborate later.
I was a HUGE Throwbots fan before Bionicle. I used to draw comics and fantasize about what their world was like based on the strange official art.
A shame about the lazy Blaster combination model. Could probably have altered the upper torso and leg design quite a bit. Also, clever pun in the end.
