- I bought a Birkenstock cleaning kit, but it was not working to clean my Birkenstocks. I found a Birkenstocks cleaning solution recipe online and tried it in this video. It worked!

I don’t own any sandals but yet I’m watching this instead of going to bed.
LMAO, I’m doing the same right now @1AM
That’s what UA-cam is for 🤣
Screaming at this comment!! Here at 4am
We’ve all been there 🤣
😂
Works. Own 7 pair Birkenstock. Best shoes ever. Worth the cost ladies. 😘😘
7 pairs? Buy me a pair with all that $$😭
I bet that attracts guys. 😂
@@mariantreber8055 same thing I was thinking 🤔 ... UGLY
@@mariantreber8055 I mean, some guys wear them too, so it might attract her type of guys...? Here in Cali, people wear them year round and that's been the case for decades. Their popularity as a fashion statement comes and goes, but I guess they are a staple for many. Personally, I have flat feet so the arch support is just uncomfortable on me. But I do resell them.
@mariantreber8055 who cares?
I followed your instructions. OMG game changer. They look brand new and they are at least 8 years old. My daughter in law and granddaughter thought they were new. I’m not embarrassed to take them off when I go anywhere. Thank you so much for sharing. Val ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
I've watched many videos regarding cleaning birkenstocks. However, this is the only video that makes sence and is informative. Loved this. 👍
I would rather watch 20 of your videos than 3 of some others. Thanks for this quick, but very informative tutorial. Again, I am glad to see you back! 🤗
That is such a sweet compliment. Thank you Cheryl!
I, like so many other people in the world love Birkenstock shoes and since it is quite the investment awfully nice to know there's a good way to take care of them so they have even a longer life. I believe at this time I currently have six pair of Birkenstocks and a dirty foot bed is about the worst it gets on the inside anyway so this is awesome!!! Thank you so much for the information and I will wear them in good health as I have always done in the past now I can even be proud that they look good too!
Very helpful. Saves me $20 for not having to buy the official birk cleaning kit. Thanks much.
Birkenstock! My go to sandals. I have quite a few pairs in various colours; comfort and style! When the footbed gets dirty they don't look so wonderful, I will try this cleaning method. Thank you.
I didn't even know you could clean the insoles, so happen this popped up in my feed. Thanks for sharing! :)
I ordered mine like a hour ago! I was looking at videos on how to clean yours was the most helpful! 🤍✨
How to let them dry?
probably the best Birkenstocks cleaning video instructions on UA-cam
I don't have Birkenstocks but I have White Mountain sandals in several colors that I wear every day. The foot beds looked terrible and I didn't ever take them off in public because I knew I'd be embarrassed for anyone to see them. I tried your video and they look SOOO much better. Thank you so much for sharing.
i have shoes from SAS that have similar footbeds. the one thing that is different from your instructions is brushing the footbed with a dry brush first. it works really great to loosen up the gunk and then continue like you indicated.
the salesman also suggested 5 or 6 light passes with Scotchguard to prevent some of the problem in the first place. i did try it on a new pair of sandles. it did nake it just a little darker, or a richer shade.
Been wearing Birks for over 30 years and never cleaned the foot bed. Learned something new.
Great! This was exactly what I was looking for, clear and concise. Thank you!
Thanks Amber! I wear Birkenstock’s myself. I have many pair. I’m gonna try this. I just thought “it is what it is!” Now I can give them new life. Because of the dirty foot bed factor I probably would never buy or thrift a used pair. Maybe now that will be an option. Thanks for the tutorial!
Never buy used birks. After you wear them they mold to your foot.
They will never fit your right.
I've got 9 pairs. I wear them in the snow or in the sun!!! Worth every single penny. X
Tried this today! Hoping it turns out well for me. Thank you for sharing!
I looked at one other video, and your video by far looks like the best one...here I go...!!
I’ve seen a lot of videos on this and all the comments on other videos say that this baking soda method doesn’t work! I had a pair for resale and I ended up just selling them dirty because I didn’t want to risk it! :/ glad to see that it does work after all.
I worked for Birkenstock and we were trained to warn customers to not wet the footbed. Water is not good for them at all the cork will crumble.
@@zenadeboer They say that so they can push their useless, but very expensive, cleaning kits. I've used the baking soda "recipe" for a long time, and my cork has never crumbled--probably because I am not using any moisture on the cork. The best way to keep it intact is to oil it periodically so it doesn't crack.
Great tutorial! Always on the lookout for birks!
Would be nice to show them fully dry after some days for the real comparison
Thanks for this video! Will definitely be doing this once the summer is over.
Cool...I found using a little stiffer brush got them even cleaner. You can get them at hardware stores. They look like toothbrushes, but bigger and better handle. Give it a try.
Fantastic video! I love Birkenstocks and have 20 or so pairs, several of which could use a freshen up. I had no idea they could be cleaned so easily. Thanks so much!
i have some birkenstock’s and at first i cleaned them with just baking soda and water and then after that just water and i let them dry and my footbed turned super hard and not comfy do u know what i did wrong
@@leonorzavala8170 you didn't do anything wrong. It's normal when leather get dry (after washing) it's get harder, too. Just take some cream (hand cream f.e.) and spread it gently- will softner the leather. That's all. I do it always after washing leather footwear.
20 pairs wtf
@@RandomGuy-nm6bmmy exact thoughts lol
In summer I wear only Birkenstocks or Sneakers. Birkenstocks looks like this after 3 or 4 times wearing, not really dirty. The footprints put themselves on the sole. I wash them on a regular base with soap without any problems. Have to try the baking soda.
I love those shoes 🤩
Thank you for sharing excellent results.
Great I had a pair of them and this will help me a lot. Thanks I saw you in the live with Common Tags.
I think Birkinstocks are amazing + I love mine. Wouldn't want to be without them.
If you want to speed up the drying time and have a dehumidifier just put them in front of one and enjoy them a lot sooner! 😊👍
wow you are an angel i was just so grossed out with my birki's ....thanks gonna try asap.
Definitely going to try this. I have many pairs that need this. Thanks!
Now that is some good info Amber! I'm going to try that in some Clark sandals I have and see if it works! Thank you!
Do they have any now that are NOT made in China? Clark's.
500k views! Look at you! You were the first in the search results, I forgot you had even made this video. Getting 5 pairs cleaned up real quick, Thanks for the info!
Let me know how it works for you! The comments have conflicting results. I am planning to do another video where I try it some of the other suggestions from the comments!
@@AmberResells so, im wondering if i might have scrubbed too hard. 2 days later and the writing and size written on the footbed is nonexistent. I was thinking maybe it would just take them fully drying, but as of yet no signs of reemerging. My variables were using Ajax soap instead of Dawn, and using a walmart shoe brush instead of the toothbrush.
A great post for me and many others!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing ❤️. Great tips
awesome video! can't wait to try this, much needed for my b's 😖
Gonna clean mine later. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for this! Just sourced my 1st pair!!!
Thanks for posting. I actually found this in Famous Footwear ' s UA-cam channel 3 days ago. 😀 I sourced Clark Sandals that needed some help. Love your videos.
Thanks Amber
Did it go brighter after several days or still the same from that 14 hours result?
Спасибо, это очень хороший совет!
Wow, thank u Amber..
Amazing trick thanks, this can work with many shoes. Just found some going to try it.
This has been so useful to me!!
Awesome. Definitely will try this out.
Great video, very useful ! Thank you!
I have a pair of NAOTS that I tried to clean with Dawn. As soon as the footbed got wet, there was a nasty odor, like Mildew, coming from them. I got them at the bins. I'll try this mixture and see what happens.
Brushing them with a wire suede brush helps rough up the surface. 👍☮️🌞🌟
I didn’t know I could clean them 😂 Great video!
Same!! Mind. Blown.
We resellers are interesting people...cleaning strangers shoes at home! 🥰. Thank you so much for that info!
Regular detergent works just fine!
I used peroxide on my foot beds.I scrubbed them with an old washcloth. I have a diabetic ulcer on my foot and even with a bandage on, it bleeds right thru. This is why I had to clean the shoes. They are my favorite shoes and I won’t give them up !! Yeah Sketchers !!!!
Bricken is one of good brand!! My favorite
I put head spray from other cleaning bottle on peroxide bottle. Spray peroxide on footbeds, it will do foam. Brush out the dirty foam and rinse with clean water. (I do it with hand shower). Clean and disinfected. Large bottle(32 FL OZ)of peroxide $2.45 i Walgreens.
You can also use a wire suede brush- no water or chemicals on leather.
or sandpaper
Perfect timing! I have a pair that needs this badly 😁 Thanks!
Y,oz
Thanks for the info, very helpful
thats wonderful! thanks for sharing!
I needed this, so I can clean mine!!!
Great thank you ! I needed this video
thank you for teaching us on how to clean it
You can wash them in the mashine, stick them in a pair of jeans
I just did it I'm coming back when there dry I think it's going to work thank you for this video
How did it turn out ?
Years ago I had to go into the sewer to save a little kitten. I called the Birkenstock dealer and asked how to clean my shoes and he told me to put them into a solution of Antibacterial liquid soap (I used Dial) and water. I'm still wearing them. I'll give this a try too.
Did it work?
@@victoriaelena3846 This happened about 10 years ago to my favorite pair of double strap sandals. I still wear them but just for working outside because it did fade the navy color. I was worried about all the nasty stuff in the sewer but also raccoons (they killed 13 neighborhood cats and kittens that year) were coming up from the sewer and they have all kinds of nasty diseases that I didn't want to bring into the house. I was disappointed that the color faded and also the footbed was stiff after they dried and stayed that way. If I ever had to do it again I would probably just use Lysol or Clorox wipes if I could find some.
Thank youu! Going to use this !!
looking to buy some used ones, thanks for this vid!!
Thanks for the informative video.
Thanx!!!Gonna try this now!
Thank you so much. Much better than a wire brush and just carb Soda and water paste……very messy.
How does it look like days after the cleaning? Thanks!
Sooo helpful! You are awesome. Thank you! Any other shoe cleaning tips for resellers?
Thank your for sharing!
I hope when we can get out and about again I can find some Birks. The ones I’ve found in the past sell super fast and got good money. 🤞🤞
I’m hoping people are cleaning out their closets right as we speak so we can find good stuff to make up for the lack of inventory in the next few months!
I just found my first pair of birkenstocks at the bins and they are hideous 😭going to try this method to hopefully bring them back to life😀
There's also an eraser you can buy if you don't want to get them wet. It's pretty cheap.
Thank you for this video! Cause I’m not about to go to the store and purse all their cleaning accessories! I just need baking soda at this point!
great tip. thanks
Great idea!
Thanks for the information
Thank you for this!
Here’s the thing, the footprints do get removed from the footbed. But what I disliked was the new texture. The shoes weren’t as comfortable and they felt rough/dry. Not to mention that my shoes developed an odor. I have 16 pairs of Birkenstock’s and have never had an issue with odor except for with my first pair because I attempted to clean them using this method.
thanks for that info on the Birkenstocks. I was wondering that same thing when I cleaned mines. However I never used the baking soda with dawn. I also found you can use a leather Moisturiser cleaner on the leather birkenstocks.
------ Originally the oils from the meterials and your foot is supposed to make the foot bed settle in when you get a new Pair just like a Louis Vuitton bag handle that changes Patina over time same for birks footbed. The only down fall is the way it looks like dingy and ugly. I wish they just make any incert for them. cheers !
Uh oh. I just cleaned mine doing this 🙁 hope I didn't ruin them! They were really dirty.
I agree. I wore my Birks through a rather damp field last year (didn't realize the grass was wet until it was too late to turn back) and even wiping the dirt and mud off of the front half of the foot bed with a damp cloth, it was quite quite crusty and dry. I ended up replacing them.
@@abraoeser5910 What were your results like? Mine were only roughly 7 months old when I did this to them and the footbed wasn't even fully broken in. I simply disliked the footprint being so dark so I thought this would help remove it... It did remove the prints but then I noticed they made my feet smell weird. Not horrible but it had like an old leather smell. I think this could help if the footbed was extremely really dirty, like 3+ years of sweat and so forth.
@@HK-bj8qq I technically have replaced them with the other pairs of birks I own now... But I haven't gotten rid of them. They're good to have, especially in situations where I want to be comfy but don't want to damage additional pairs. Like at the lake (not near water), or by the pool, or hanging around the yard without worrying about damaging them too much.
Thank you!
bed felt rough a day after when I washed it(actually I washed it with shampoo). is it likely to soften up while drying?
Yours are so clean. Mine look gross. LOL. Thank you for the recipe.
Hello amber how if i don’t have squirt soap can replace anything thanks🙏
Welp, if someone had told me I'd be watching a video of a young lady cleaning some Birkenstocks with a toothbrush I would have said "Nope!"" But I did! LOL! Good info!
Wow!!!! GREAT INFO!!
I've used a suede eraser, brush, and and/or cleaner, if necessary when prepping suede shoes to resell. But I recently sold a pair of work boots for $140, which I had scrubbed a couple times with suede cleaner and water. The buyer contacted me after wearing the boots twice and said the soles separated from the boots. I was shocked and puzzled because I'd sold an identical pair last year which came from the same owner and the man who bought them never reported any trouble. However I hadn't scrubbed that first pair before selling because they didn't have any stains. The buyer of the second pair provided pics of the damage, so I felt it was only right to refund all his money, including shipping.
After looking it up, it seems that polyurethane midsoles can become brittle if they get wet, and/or as they age. You can't see the damage because it's inside the shoe.
I've heard of doing a bend test on shoes like Danskos, for this very reason (bend them as much as possible at the sole to make sure they don't crack in half), but I had no idea this other brand of shoes I'd sold might do this. They were Asolo brand.
Now I'm leery of wetting/scrubbing any expensive shoes that might have multiple layers in the soles, for fear of ruining them.😬
Just curious, have you or anyone else reading this experienced this type of trouble with Birks after getting them wet during cleaning?
I find your comment very helpful, thank you!, because I'm also trying to resell Birkenstock sandals, but I'm scared i will ruin them instead. I will like to know the answer 😭
Thank you for sharing I will do it to my slipper god bless
Thank You!! Sweet!
Thank you!!
Thank you for this video
Thank you 💛
THANK. YOU.
Very helpful thanks
Nice! Good to know!
