These things have "standardized" location numbers. Example, at 10:47 in the video you can see listed for the channel "ENG141635-ENG116665". You will also see a search box on the screen. If you type in the second number there, 116665, then it should filter out EVERYTHING except for that one channel, easy. So here is a list of said numbers for your adaptation channels: ENG141635-ENG116665 = Funk Spiegelanklappung Modus ENG141635-ENG133411 = Spiegelanklappen_bei_Wiederverriegelung ENG141635-ENG116660 = Menuesteuerung Funk Spiegel anklappen ENG141635-ENG116658 = Funk Spiegelanklappen ENG141635-ENG116657 = Menuesteuerung Spiegelabsenkung ENG141635-ENG116650 = Spiegelabsenkung bei Rueckwaertsfahrt Now just search for 116665, 133411, 116660, 116658, 116657 and 116650 and you will have no issues locating those goofy German descriptions. If you like UDS, let me hear you say YEAH! ..... *crickets chirp* That confirms it, no one likes UDS. :)
Another adapatation that I found nice, is if you disable Bit 5 under module 42 and 52 (door entry lights not active while mirrors folded), the puddle lights will come on as soon as you unlock the door, instead of waiting for the mirrors to unfold. It looks cool, because you can see the light beam moving as the mirror unfolds.
you can tell if the car is supposed to be locked. At least in VW and Seat you can send the lock command and have the mirrors fold in while a door is still open. after that door closes then it locks it
Don't need to look back. My car is set to auto lock anytime all doors are closed. Never failed yet. And getting the front doors to unlock is automatic when the fobs in pocket. Opening the two rear doors is easy too, just double tap on the inside of either front door handle and the rear door auto unlocks.
Absolute legend - watching your video just enabled me to change my wing mirror assembly after minor accident damage. Thanks so much for your super clear video - saved me a fortune at the main dealer!
Hi Charles, I am following your channel since a long time. I also installed the power folding mirrors to my Golf like one year ago, but I couldn´t find a way to make the puddle lights work until I watched this video. Thanks a lot for all the knowledge you are sharing in your videos. Keep up with the great work!! Cheers from Uruguay!!
@@HumbleMechanic went with a 2014 Subaru XV crosstrek limited. Much slower but has more space without driving like an SUV and got it for a great price. I had a mk5 dsg and the new tech is awesome but the cvt is awful. Also have a 97 miata for the fun drives so not completely missing out on all the fun. Definitely returning to the VW family for a used mk7 golf R later on.
Seems like an outrageous amount of work for a simple mirror update, but looks can be deceiving. Actually it's quite a sophisticated upgrade, especially for the programming concerning the infotainment system. Thanks for sharing this with us Charles, and introducing us to the reality of what's required for modern vehicles upgrades. Cheers!
I used to do this on the 80's mustangs.. allot of parts from all the different fox platforms are easily installed or adapted. Didn't have power seats.. find a Thunderbird. Plugs right in. Want different map light. Find a merkury. Lol
My 2018 white Sportwagen has mirror dip on reverse, carbon fiber mirror caps and the flowing turn signal feature, but not folding mirrors. Darn you for putting up this video and getting me salivating again.
Awesome... I'm glad you're doing these upgrades explained very well like the Kessey rear door handles.... coding for these things makes the car extra cool and tons of VW owners don't even know it can be done
Best video on UA-cam, when installing folding mirrors. 10 of 10 would definitely watch again if messing with door panels or mirrors on my Golf Alltrack!
Awesome video! Just finished installing on Mk7 R. Fishing line trick worked a charm! Long Coding probably took the longest to find all of the adaptations to change. Fantastic detailed videos. Thanks!!
This is one of my favorite MODs, the puddle light has saved me more that once, in dog a friendly yard... Those trim tools are key, wish I researched prior to "very, very" carefully ripping the panels away from the door... lol
HumbleMechanic - Question for ya: I have my doors set to lock after I exit the vehicle (using the prox sensor). Do you know if there’s a setting that will also instruct the mirrors to fold when this happens? I already have everything else you have coded set and currently this doesn’t work.
Speaking of OCD.... your volume knob is off TDC by at least one click 😁 One thing I strongly dislike with my Leon is the rear window defroster and heated mirrors are operated by different controls. The rear window defroster from the button on the climate controls, that has an adaptable timer; and the heated mirrors from the mirror adjust rotatory button, that doesn't appear to be timed. I've not been in a situation where I'd have the mirrors heating and not the rear window or vice-versa, and I sometimes forget to switch the mirrors off which can't be good for the elements 😢
VW have some stupid ideas especially with how you fold and unfold the mirrors. You have to look at the button before and after you rotate to know which mark you are on and where to rotate it because it fully turns to 5 different position without any tactile feed back of what is the current position! Very very stupid and a normal kick back of the button to fold/unfold is much easier as in our 10 y old chevy cruze. German engineers are sometimes so dumb
Great video, Charles! I don't even have a Mk7 and I still watched all of it. Clear instructions and good close-ups to show what you are doing. I'm sure that I'll be watching it all again in the future if I replace my Mk6 GTI with a Mk7.
Folding mirrors are a great idea when parking on city streets since they give an extra few inches of clearance before someone clips them with a bike or passing car. I manually fold my driver's side Mk6 mirror in when parking in Philly, NYC, etc.
@HumbeMechanic thanks for detailed tutorial I watched it to remove the mirrors on a GTI and retrofit the puddle light. The harness clip tip was awesome! Overall, the video was extremely helpful, very clear and went over every step and trick to make a clean job.
Looks straight forward, Thanks I don’t have fishing line but maybe I can use weed wacker line. I used it to pull the wires through the rubbers boots and panels in the hatch for the LED taillight install.
I agree it is very cool and important in narrow traffic. My wife old Chevy cruze had this optin and she was used to it to the degree she insisted that I buy her the next trim of Passat because the base trim did not have that auto folding mirrors.!!!
this is actually a really worthy upgrade. the puddle lights and passenger's side mirror lowering in reverse feature are already really nice upgrades (and should have definitely came standard), but the power folding just makes it feel much more luxurious... I think the main reason they left them out ultimately comes down to cost cutting, and not really to do with the size of the car, because you can get power folding mirrors from the factory on an S3, which is about the same size as the Golf.
like a PRO thanks for sharing! Lots of people use metal for plastic and that is really wrong because u scrash the plastic and the client won't be happy at all.
Good stuff. You should wrap those door clips with a small amount of tesa tape. I did that on my 6R and it cut down vibrations and buzzing a ton. Although I imagine a brand new car doesn't have many of them yet.
People in the US are making their car look Euro, whilst here in Europe we make our cars look USDM lol. I especially like the USDM Jetta/Passat taillights for the red blinkers. I guess it's because here we see the Euro lights on a daily basis and vice versa.
Great install and tutorial! Totally agree the R should have come with this in the US. It's a shame we always gets shafted with luxury features like this being omitted. 😡
Man, it’s sad that the 7.5 R didn’t come with it along with the auto hatch. Now that I have the 2019 Tiguan SEL premium it is two options I wish my Golf R had them too. Thanks for the videos.
ever since installing these, whenever I see another Golf parked with their mirrors out, I think "why do they have their mirrors sticking out like that? 😂
If you have some technical ability it’s a super quick job. For me it would be an hour max start to finish, both sides with coding. Average DIY is 2.5 hours I’d guess
Great tutorial! I want this on my MK7 GTI. I think this mixed with the sequential turn signals and also new blind spot concave-vexed mirrors, as I don’t have blind spot monitoring, would be the perfect combo. $500 for all this is a lot, but I think worth it.
HumbleMechanic yeah. $350 isn’t bad. I would do the mirrors and sequential turn signals all at the same time if I did it. Would be $500 for everything. Still not too bad.
I kinda a like manual mirror in my b6 A4, I like how they are super strong. I remember when there was a huge snow storm, all of my neighbors car mirrors was either broken off or fold back ward, while my mirror is the exact way I left. I can’t forget the face of my neighbors looking for there mirrors under in snow while I am walking to my car like some kind of hero lol I wanted to scream ITS GERMAN ENGINEERING BRO!
I recently rented a small Mercedes wagon in Italy that had this feature for the mirrors. Yeah, raid space is really tight there. This feature is probably to guard against losing mirrors to scooter riders.
It is interesting that you say this because I had a conversation with a friend about this. On the 08 MY C-Class (W204) they had this feature (I think as an option) in the US and for the 09-14 model years they removed this feature and only Canadian cars had them. Between the 2010 MY to the 2014 MY they redesigned the mirrors on the C-Class that looked exactly like thebmirrors on the E-Class (W212) and they have the power folding mirrors. It makes me wonder why they didn't bring back the power folding mirrors for the 2010-2014 C-Class'? After seeing this video, I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit the C-Class to have this feature.
hello thanks for the job. Is it possible to have the procedure for the mirrors to fold up with the remote control of the key. I did the procedure with Vcds but the mirrors are folded down only with the button. thank you sorry I do not speak English (Google translation). A big thank-you
wish yours would not have automatic headlights off when no ignition, cuz thats the mod my old old audi needs, should be easy and i am comfortable with electric stuff, but good guide would be always great.
Since those don't come as standard in US, at least can you open the windows with the key? As in holding the "open" button, opens the windows and the "close" closes them all
Not by default, no. We can enable it through coding though. Who knows why VW didn't enable that on US cars, there's all kinds of small features like that missing on US cars that can be activated if you have a scan tool.
Hello al the way from holland thanks for the video! I have a problem with my electric mirror when i close the doors the mirror is going al the way up til my door window it is not stopping?
Nice instructive video, but I'd never spend the money for this feature. I would put a drop of Loctite blue on the T30's holding the mirrors on the door.
Great work as usual Charles, very nice mod to have, and in this video you done an Excellent Tutorial for anyone who want to do it DIY,so Thank you for such a great video, but I find it more practical to have the Unlock feat. when you have the ignition switch on instead of opening every time you unlock the car by remote, also I would like to ask you if you can apply this to all VAG models such as the VW Passat B8?(Europe Spec.)
Mine has these from factory, but my car is a Japanese version imported to the UK, so for a 2014 Golf R mk7 it's got pretty much all of the options ticked. However, one thing that does get me is that I can hear the trunk handle open for the reverse camera, but my head unti only displays the sensor screen. I'll have to open the trunk and take a look as you never know what previous owners have done, espically from Japan as they like to modifiy their cars with lighting etc. It even has an ETC reader in the glove box.
I have OBDELEVEN and I was able to program power folding on my 2016 GTI without any problem, but I cannot get puddle lights to work. Remote folding would be nice to.
I have power folding mirrors in a 2010 Audi a6 c6 facelift , but I tried several tutorials on coding them to fold when the car is locked , coding is accepted but no actual results.
Is there a way to find euro part numbers for mirror glass (the passenger one) that doesn't have the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" ? Tried looking it up before, not finding it.
Hi Humble mechanic... I did this retrofit and tried to code them in but not working .. any advice I have an audi a3 8v ... does that make a difference lol or is this just for VW
I wish this would have been an option in the USDM. Are you going to do the dynamic turn signals as well? Then get the Euro tails. Just get lubed up and jump right down that rabbit hole.
Hahaha I have tail lights but I don’t have a time line on install. It’s a mod I’ll never really see so I’m not super motivated to do it. Love they dynamic blinky but I want them all to do it. Lol
Thank you for the video, my 19.5 Tig already has the folding mirrors but I am interested in those sequential style indicators. My question is, do you know if installing these will require coding changes too?
I’m curious, if you want a better car, why not get one? You do 4 door kessy, engine mods , folding mirror mod... why not get a car that has all that? Having said that, your vids are cool and I’ve learned several things. Thanks for posting.
Because I love doing this kind of thing. Sure I could get those features on something. But I enjoy the whole process. Research, filming, doing abs sharing with y’all
Charles, seriously dude, you need to make more videos fixing big 3 vehicles. VW and German stuff is flawless but we all need help with the American stuff bro

Great work as usual Charles, very nice mod to have, and in this video you done an Excellent Tutorial for anyone who want to do it DIY,so Thank you for such a great video, but I find it more practical to have the Unlock feat. when you have the ignition switch on instead of opening every time you unlock the car by remote, also I would like to ask you if you can apply this to all VAG models such as the VW Passat B8?(Europe Spec.)
do u have a link of how to remove the inside door latch?
Mine has these from factory, but my car is a Japanese version imported to the UK, so for a 2014 Golf R mk7 it's got pretty much all of the options ticked. However, one thing that does get me is that I can hear the trunk handle open for the reverse camera, but my head unti only displays the sensor screen. I'll have to open the trunk and take a look as you never know what previous owners have done, espically from Japan as they like to modifiy their cars with lighting etc. It even has an ETC reader in the glove box.
Great video! Thanks for posting.
Music at 23:00 legit made me think I was watching a 80s cops show staged in LA
Good evening sir, is that same as Passat B8 or any differences for what??? Thx for coops 🙋🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️
I have OBDELEVEN and I was able to program power folding on my 2016 GTI without any problem, but I cannot get puddle lights to work.
Remote folding would be nice to.
Very cool. Really want this.
Hey Charles, where’d you get your key case?
I want to do this on my Skoda Karoq. Could the process be the same or similar?
Where is your shop located? I want the folding mirrors and rear door lock/unlocking function.
Thanks a lot.
How to do coding with obdeleven.
So the Golf GTI comes stock with power fold mirrors and puddle light but Golf R doesn't?
I have power folding mirrors in a 2010 Audi a6 c6 facelift , but I tried several tutorials on coding them to fold when the car is locked , coding is accepted but no actual results.
Is there a way to find euro part numbers for mirror glass (the passenger one) that doesn't have the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" ? Tried looking it up before, not finding it.
Hi Humble mechanic... I did this retrofit and tried to code them in but not working .. any advice
I have an audi a3 8v ... does that make a difference lol or is this just for VW
This is an awesome mod!!!!! I want to do it to my car!
Why one mirror fold and one ufold please help. Thanks a lot.
Charles, any word on adding remote start to a Mk7? Is it possible? And if so, how difficult would it be?
Awesome work, we also have install videos Thank you for the content
How do you do this with obd 11 iOS cannot find any videos
I’m curious, if you want a better car, why not get one? You do 4 door kessy, engine mods , folding mirror mod... why not get a car that has all that? Having said that, your vids are cool and I’ve learned several things. Thanks for posting.
Because I love doing this kind of thing. Sure I could get those features on something. But I enjoy the whole process. Research, filming, doing abs sharing with y’all
Charles, seriously dude, you need to make more videos fixing big 3 vehicles. VW and German stuff is flawless but we all need help with the American stuff bro
If I ever own one I will. But vw/Audi is the lane I’m in.
I do have a non-vw project coming soon. :)
What part # for the highline/Golf R door modules?
Good video ! awesome work
Thank you
