You gave great info on chickens . Well done. I have raised chicken for many many years. I do have leghorns that are very friendly you can just walk up and pick them up but most leghorns are flighty. I also have a variety of chickens. I have egg layers dual chickens my dull chickens The average roosters is 10 lb and my hens are 8 lb. Anyone who lives in hot climate definitely should not get rainbow chickens they just can't take the heat. I've tried them twice.
By rainbow chickens do you mean Easter Eggers? I have a ton of Easter Eggers and they seem to be one of the hardiest birds out of the flock and fare better when its hot too. Its the dark colored ones that I see panting a lot.
I have several different breeds. We have some New Hampshire Reds. They are very friendly. They will come jump up on your lap if you sit down in a chair. They like to be petted. I also have Salmon Faverolles, 2 roosters and a hen. The roosters watch the flock, but are not aggressive to us. The hen has gotten broody but doesn't peck hard when you take the eggs. We have several other breed chicks for egg color...Prairie Bluebells and Cream Legbar which lay sky blue eggs sky and Starlight Green eggers which lay various shades of green.
