Protecting graboids is honestly a dumb idea considering these monsters are probably the most dangerous creatures in the world. They would also be the most damaging invasive species in the world, considering they have an extreme advantage in hunting and that no other animal has had to contend with them for millions of years
Don't forget that graboids can pop out up to at the very most 6 shriekers, and that blasters (what shriekers turned after less than a day) can fly and lay about 3-4 eggs which can be dormant for up to 300 years (not to sure if that one's right but you can get it).
They change their mind later on after three of their agent was KIA, since graboid can evolved into a shrekers they are no longer protected and to be destroyed on sight
I just love the look on Nancy's face when she realizes her expectations of how the Government agents were supposed to help gets completely decimated. Burt was right all along Nancy, they were never going to be of any help to you guys lol.
Most people don't understand that help from the government is the worse thing that can happen. You're better off handling things on your own. Anyone who thinks otherwise is disgustingly naive.

Maddock later admitted to us that he named the character in hopes he could get back in touch with my father. Needless to say his ploy worked. Incidentally my father was a cardiologist rather than a paleontologist and he's very different from his fictional counterpart.
