This would not give a professional finish at all. Much better to use an archival pva glue and then smooth over the canvas to remove all the bubbles. Leave over night with a board covering the canvas being held down with weights on top. This way you will have no bubbles in the canvas and it will be securely fixed to the board . Then use a sharp knife to trim around the edges rather than wrap it around.

No, you need a staple gun, not an ordinary stapler.
Why not Just prime the wood? And paint on that
Yes you can always paint on wood for sure but some people prefer to paint on canvas with the texture it gives.
If the wood falls apart you will still have the canvas

What supplies do I need to make canvas for painting
Hi Jada, the supplies I used are in the description above. If you want a stretched canvas then you will need stretcher bars and canvas as well as a staple gun (although it is much easier and sometimes cheaper to buy them!).

No you can't use cardboard it is not strong enough.
Is that cheaper than buying the gesso board from Hobby Lobby?
I don't know as we don't have Hobby Lobby here but this was useful for me as I had some canvas lying around and some offcuts of MDF.
No- the adhesive is going to run you up compared to PVA glue, and if you buy a 4x8' panel and cut it down yourself to save money, then you need a 2 cases of spray mount the way this is done... Most economical way is PVA glue.
