Margarine. During the depression my grandfather, a dairy farmer, sold the cream, gave the skim milk to the hogs, and replaced the cream at home with Margarine as it was less expensive than cream. False economy he died young. Growing up my mother used Crisco and seed oils for cooking. We never had butter or lard in the house. False economy, she died young. Father went on a low fat diet per Dean Ornish. He stroked out with a clogged carotid. I enjoy full fat milk, butter and cheese. Fingers crossed. 🏊🏻🏋‍♂️🧨🦊

The best thing our ancestors can do is to help teach us to surpass them in the art of quality living. Good luck - you are likely making the right dietary choice, IMO.

@MindAndMatter High protein Mediterranean diet for me. Eat only twice a day. Swim daily. At 70yrs I am the oldest OG under the barbell at the Local YMCA. Very aware of dangers of visceral fat. Just ate a one pound sirloin. Dad would eat a chicken breast and Salad. Live and learn.🇧🇮🏋‍♂️🧨🦊

@@robertthompson5501 I'm the same age (70). My mom really bought into the marketing hype of Crisco as the modern, clean, proper substitute for lard or butter. She thought she was doing the best for her family by using Crisco for all frying, baking, etc. Her fried chicken was legendary. But I recall she used about an inch of Crisco in the fry pan, so you can imagine the payload of trans fats the chicken absorbed. My dad needed CABG at age 63 and struggled with heart issues the rest of his life. She died at 72 of heart attack. It's damn absurd that science and technology had put men on the moon and developed nuclear weapons many decades before we began to address the trans-fat / hydrogenation scourge.

I use flax seed oil to season my Cast Iron frying pan, Non Stick. 🏋‍♂️🏊🏻🧨🦊

The risk here is that heat will oxidize the omega PUFAs in the flaxseed oil. These are not merely polyunsaturated fatty acids (2 or more double bonds), but contain several double bonds and are therefore more prone to oxidation.

@@MindAndMatter Have you ever seasoned a cast iron pan? The flax seed oil is layered on as the pan is heated. The oil is polymerization and becomes a nonstick surface. Is that toxic? 🏊🏻🏋‍♂️🧨🦊
