For £100 you ought to buy that for your boy to practise on. It would be done for when he passes his test. In my opinion It is more environmentally friendly to fix up an old car like that than build a new one.
My sort of car all easy fixes it should have been saved I run 2 cars one is a Renault magane convertible 19 year old and a Mini Cooper s 20 year old fun to drive and keep my busy great vid keep them coming 👍
Great stuff Monika, Alan and Tyler, its a shame as the body work on all French cars hold pretty well, but yes there was a little too much to be done on such an old car to make a few pound on it👌👍🙏😎
Shame about the Clio, in much better nick than my first few cars... back in the day we got our bits from the scrap yard. The sunroof drain pipes get blocked on these causing water everywhere inside the car... simple fix with curtain wire.
Renault learned their lesson from the 70's when cars like the R.16, R.6 and R.4 used to rot underneath really badly, although usually quite easy to repair the flat floor, which rusted on the corners. The going rate around our way is £325 for a car like that, so maybe as well to compare other scrap companies prices Alan.
True but only because that size of car has been superceded by the small SUV in demand, the Mondeo was a very competent large family hatch ( I only say large family hatch because really a focus is the idea of a family hatch these days)
We need your expertise with the new "Ford Diesels" Alan, especially the Ecoblue's. There is not one person on here that covers so much as you do, you have a been a diamond with the PSA's! 👏👏👏👏👍👍

Every ICE car that goes to scrap is one step closer to us all having to comply and own an electric car or get off the road as we can't afford the £40k to comply. Once they are gone they are gone forever. Scrap in haste ...repent at leisure lol
You're spot on about the rust on French cars Alan, I scrapped two Pug 405 taxi's back in the day, nearly made me cry as they were solid as the day they left the plant but mechanically/cosmetically they were uneconomical to repair due to starship mileage and as former taxis practically worthless to the man on the street.
I've got a 2002 clio (Not for sale) and anything that breaks on it has always been cheap to fix. The high clutch pedal is normal for these. I've just had a new clutch fitted 2 weeks ago and it's still high
Considering you can probably sell this for £1,500 in good condition and if you use good second hand parts to fix it they’ll defo be some money in it for yourself.
yeah my first car was 1.2 cleo 74k on it was actually a lovly car too but problems with them. i say problem there were alot with mine over 4 years owning it i did love it and i do miss it but even i knew throwing money at a car that isnt going to last much longer it wasnt worth keeping it especally as mine did 114k in the end and heading towards the 120k mark. just scraped through it last mot. just cost more than it was worth in the end. but for a starter car you really couldn't go wrong with them 2003 cleo expresion (yes the bog o standered one) with just electric windows no air con so you deffo felt heat in summer jeasus and a sunroof that actully worked. all in all i did love it and was sad to see it go now i have a 10 plate focus ive now owned just over 5 years and will proberly be looking to change again soon with cost of tax and insureance going through roof and running it. but good video though and shame it couldn't be saved but hopefully scrap yard can make most of it and put it to some use.
You still have to tax them but historic vehicles are free of charge, and if someone dosent apply for road tax even though its free , you can get fined or have the vehicle taken off you
It was never the glass that leaked it was between frame and roof skin needed to be resealed had the same thing happened on Daughter's first Clio that's probably the damp smell as water ends up in front footwell , Any misfires 50/50 coil pack or exhaust valves these cars were always cheap for service parts unlike VW and Ford
Hi Alan, I believe the way for the garage to get away with giving warranty is to sell it as a part rather than a car. You charge value of the car + VAT or something, read it in Car Mechanics magazine some time ago, but I suppose it's too litle money for the effort though.
mine had a pain with the imobiliser where it wouldnt turn the immobiliser off but found out if u got other keys on the car key it effects the signal so u just have to have the car key with no other metal on it and fine after that
I’ve often tried to source parts from Redcorn without success. They either don’t have the right part or their price is way too high. I don’t waste my time with them anymore.
A big project car for sum one with a lot of time on the hands just think of some of the old cars on road to day that were saved from the scrap yard and now taken to to shows for some to say I had one of those a wish I still had it
£235 they will strip it down and get £1000 just for the engine , £500 for the seats , £200 for alloy wheels , so basicly they giving you £235 but they will make about £2000
I've got an 05 currently, and looking at used prices, considering mine was free coz it was just sitting, and I've spent £800 on getting it up to scratch, I could still double my money
Sorry Alan I'm with the majority. Something with as little rust on it deserves to be saved. It could have gone to someone handy with spanners to fix up. Your list would have given them the extent of the work. That focus on the next video was a rust bucket compared to this.
my sunroof leaked but i just put vaseline round where it joins the roof and ok untill the vasaline wears away, was only temporary till fixed properly but it worked
Send it down to Chops Garage in Devon, he can sell anything. Alternatively Baxenden Car Breakers will take it off your hands and put it in their new bailer 😂
Hi Alan . Been watching ur old videos of 2.0 diesel thermostat housing issues . I can’t believe I have to pay £250 for the whole housing just for the temp sensor , cause my housing isn’t leaking . Do u have any old ones hanging about there ? Love the video
Don’t go on as if you’ve spent a lot of money on it 🤷🏻♂️…… easy fixes……maybe clutch….. there’s still a profit in it…….. over 100,000 on a Clio…. What you expecting? Used to have one of these…. Cracking little tubs😉
Alan, one question about 2.0 tdci mondeo mk5 😊 How to clean inlet channels in the cylinder head? This is some kind of nightmare that inlet is integrated with cylinder head… Is there any safe way to get rid of that tar and soot and don’t let it get to the valves or cylinders? 😮 Without taking out whole cylinder head od course 😅
I use Normfest DC980 on my 1.8 tdci, it clears air intake quite nicely disolving it, but it then goes through the engine being burnt in combustion. First time I did mine I had tonuse 2 cans but now do it once a year and 1 can is enough.
Come on Alan, at least show us how to sort the clutch. Daughter has a similar Clio that is mint but the clutch takes so high, no slipping just really high, makes it hard for some in the household to drive. Also found water leaking in due to blocked drain plugs near the wiper bolts.
He picked my car last week and winched it up backwards and i thought he had balls seeing that balls that big it must be difficult to drive you would think

Renault still makes the Clio, unlike a Ford Mondeo. Not having a go, just saying. Love the Mondeo and the channel. Cheers Alan 🍻

Some first time driver would bit your arm off to buy that if you fixed a few of the items.
The 1.2 engine would gain Chop's Garage's highly coveted 'sweet as a nut' seal of approval.
There is still some life in it, perhaps not much, but enough to make it somebody's first car.

I live near the Toyota vault and see cars climbing onto the vehicle hauler ramp daily, but never at that speed, incredible
