Oh, Katie!! ( I know this video is 3 years old but...) I can’t thank you enough for your lessons! I’ve never touched a ukulele in my life yet, today I achieved playing this song!! You’re an amazing teacher. Thank you so much! Its channel’s like yours that motivate people like me who have never touched a ukulele before to keep at it! One small achievement can lead to a journey of success! God bless you & keep up the good work!
I am so thrilled that this helped you. You have no idea how encouraging reading this was, so thank you for being so kind. I hope that this channel continues to help you, and please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day :).
Thank you so much Katie!!! Wow, you are such an amazing UA-camr! I’m having some trouble strumming and singing at the same time, but I know that with some practice (and your videos, of course!) I can accomplish it. Again, thank you for taking the time out of your day to reply! God bless!
I'm really new to ukulele and I don't know if its just me but I'm super confused about when to change chords but other than that this vid is really helpful :D
I’ve been wrestling with tempo on this song for a while now and this is best video I’ve seen demonstrating the more complex strumming pattern. Thank you!!
One Music School Friday is now my favorite day of the week because of Random Riff Friday! Also I’m super happy because you posted 4 times this week! Have a great day! 😁
I did use in year 4,so adew years ago and sometimes I just pick my Ike (but I lost my sheet music)I turn to UA-cam and try to find music or a tutorial and this is the first helpfullnine I found, good luck to all new ukers
I was looking to play many songs i love, and i knew i wanted to do riptide as one. I learned about ukelele at my school for about a month or two, and i come on here, looking for riptide, aka my first song. The other videos i couldnt get, but when i stumbled across this one, this video is perfect for me. You make it so simple, Your voice is perfect, and you explain well. I come at watch this like every three days and i play along to you. i was looking at some of your other videos and decided to hear them, and now i practice three of your videos when you play. Thank you so much!! :D Wouldnt be the same without you!
This is my 3rd day learning the Ukulele. Thank you for making it a great experience. :) I still find strumming hard, both in pattern and execution, but you made it simple to follow and suggested easier alternatives, too! Great method.
If you put your first finger on fret 2 and string 1,2 and 3 you can just put third finger on third fret second sting and it will be easier but u prob have it down by now 😂
I’m quite new to ukulele.. And thank you cause u helped a lot! Now I learnt the whole thing and I played it as a surprise for Father’s Day!! Thank you so much
Good day, good strumming pattern to practice. Plus that riff with the hammer on makes me sound quite accomplished :) Encouragement increasing. Thanks Katie, wonderful weekend to you all.
You do a masterful job of explaining and clarifying your lesson. A big plus in my book is how well you sing too. Many thanks for all the work you put into each tutorial. (Please double check your explanation of finger placement for the G - Chord. Something about finger #3 on the 3rd fret on the C string when you meant E string.)
Good way to begin the morning! Many thanks Katie for the simplicity tutorial, it helps when you break down the song to its lowest common denominator. Carpe Diem!
I personally always appreciate affirming what I have learned as it reinforces my skill set. I figure I can always fast forward if I want to bypass anything 😋
I hope you read this! Can you make a playlist with videos for a Ukulele weeklong or multi-weeklong bootcamp where you teach beginners and slowly build on the things you are teaching us each week? I feel like, as a beginner, this would be really helpful in making sure I am not jumping from song to song and missing out on basic skills that would be beneficial to learn! I think that having those skills and you slowly building us up and teaching us how to apply the skills to songs as we build up would be awesome! Just a thought though!
Hi and thanks for watching 😀. I hear what you’re saying. UA-cam is a great search engine, but it’s not great for sequence. I actually have exactly what you’re looking for I my Patreon Page. I have ukulele 101 course, ukulele 201 course, and then a Barre a chord Boot Camp. Each course has 10-15 exclusive videos with handouts that takes you through learning the uke step by step. Visit www.patreon.com/onemusicschool for more details. It’s only $5 a month to gain access to the courses. Let me know if you have any questions.
If you are looking for beginner lessons or just technique videos, I do have a beginner’s playlist and ukulele fingerpicking/strumming technique playlist that can be found on my channel homepage. There are a lot of my tutorials that contain free chord charts. All of the chord charts from my newer videos can be found in my Patreon Page. Thanks and have a great day 😀.
@@OneMusicSchool Also you may want to fix the link you posted in your response to me. I clicked on it and it took me to a weird patreon page because there is a space after "one" in onemusicschool haha
Thanks for watching 😁😁😁. I do have an entire playlist of fingerpicking/fingerstyle songs. I don't know if you've seen them, but I think you'd like them. Just go to my channel and go the the playlist tab. You should find a fingerpicking/fingerstyle playlist. Let me know if you can't find it.
Hello, love the tutorial. Just starting to learn ukelele and trust me these tutorials are helping a lot. :) Just an editing advice there was a continuity error in the video. Probably you reshot the riff part and added it later on from 04:18 - 04:20. Don't ask me how I noticied it. Just thought to point it out as a helping hand. Take care! Thank you again for the tutorial. Love from India :))
I have to beg a difference on this being a great song for a beginner..lol. I'm going on to four weeks and I can't even play this song yet. I just finally somewhat got the hang of the island strum on Thursday of week 3 for me.
Hi and thanks for watching 😀. I chose the hammer because I thought it was faster. One of the advantages of hammer one/pull offs is speed. If you can eliminate extra plucking and incorporate a hammer on or a pull off, it allows you to play a riff more quickly. I hope that helps 😀. You could play it either way. This is just an option.
i've been trying to play to a metronome to learn timing but have been having touble. This video helps more than any other because you beak down the 1 and 2 e and 3 and 4. Does anyone have any tips on how to play this song to a metronome?
Katie thanks to you now I am very popular in my school every time you post a video my class and my school will be excited as I will play 5 different songs from your tutorial videos in assembly every Wednesday and they all think I am wonder full [thank you katie so much I appreciate your help so much😁😁😁😁😁😊😊😊😊😁😁😁😁😀😀😀😀😀

Katie thank you for doing all this tutorials I strongly appreciate it and thanks for putting so much hard work I like your voice I am 9 years old by the way😊😊😊and pls give me a shout
Is there any video out there that plays this the way Vance plays it? He clearly uses completely different chord structures, and the song doesn't have steady rising feel to it that these versions have. Everyone keeps teaching it this way, but it's definitely not how it was done originally. (And I don't mean being a half step off.. it's just completely different.... watch his fingers when he plays it.)
If it's too much, just try strumming down, up, down, up. Once you get the hang of switching between the chords, try adding the strumming pattern. I hope that helps.
What’s the tuning for the ukulele? Standard? I just picked up a ukulele (I’ve played guitar for awhile) and I have no trouble playing the chords, but it sounds wrong
You're the only one I've seen so far dare to teach the riff part, everyone conveniently skips over it so thanks for taking the time to show it!
This is the first time i can play this song correctly, love the way you make everything easy :))
This is the best tutorial for Riptide on all of UA-cam!!!! As a complete beginner, barely knowing how to strum, I learned it in about 3 hours or so!!
What a blessing! I’m so thrilled that this helped you! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate you 😀.
