    Bought a 2018 Elantra with this motor a few days ago. Built in the Korea Plant. Manual transmission. I drove a Kia Soul, Yaris IA and Fiesta with manual transmissions. This was the easiest and smoothest to drive. I can't believe how great this car is. It drives really nice. In fact, to get used to the manual I have to look at the tachometer or the indicator that tells you when to shift for best fuel economy because the motor is really quiet. The seats are great and there's plenty of visibility. The rebate was really good, $2500. Plus a $1500 discount from dealer. What's amazing is that I'm at a 40mpg average right now. Just a nice car. I don't have a lot of options but I didn't care. I got just what I needed.
    EDIT.....I get 45-47 mpg all day long.

    My 2017 Elantra SE has 93K miles on it & it runs as smooth as silk. You don't even hear the engine when it is idling.

      Hi, I recently just purchased a 2017 elantra with 13700 miles on it, but according to the vehicles previous owner he took care of it snd it still runs, like you said smooth as silk, but im having one problem im encountering currently, mine isnt a push to start and has an actual key so what’s happening is ill go to start it, and it just wont stsrt the engine, 3 lights pop up on my dash, check engine, check oil, and check battery, the car has been recently serviced so ik its not those, this wouldnt ge that big of a deal normally to me, but it did it to me today while i was DRIVING, pulling out of a resteraunt parking lot, hit a bump, and the engine just shut off and i started rolling backwards till i quickly parked it, same lights appeared on my dash, started it ahain and it started fine, then drove home and was good, im just trying to figure out what this could possibly be

    My 2017 burns 🔥 a lot of oil. According to a Hyundai dealership in Toronto, Ontario, Canada the cvvt apparently has to be replaced at a tune of $5000 or I should just get a new engine.
    Currently there is a class action lawsuit against Hyundai Canada 🇨🇦 for many engine issues.

      no, it's a multi port. I have 40,000 on my 2018. I really like the gas mileage and reliability of the motor. It is not very powerful by any means. But over 40mpg is the trade off. I really like the car.

      A plus about this port injection engine is that the valves can be cleaned out by the injectors via fuel cleaning treatment unlike their crappy GDI engines

      I now have 109k on mine. I only did 2 things to it. A wheel bearing, and coincidentally it goes in today for a water outlet. There are some antifreeze vapors escaping and it's coagulating around a hose attached to the water outlet. Should be only an hour to fix, couple hundred bucks or so. I'm telling you, change the synthetic oil ever 4500, follow the maintenance plan, there isn't much. Use 5w30 not 5w20 and you'll keep this engine a long time. Book says you can use 5w30, cap says 5w20. Just check the oil every 1500 in case you need to add a little. And I mean a little.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 6 років тому

      Roberto Moreno it likely doesn't have an ATF dipstick. The ATF fluid change interval is 150k miles. I know this sounds insane, but cars have been like this for over a decade now. My 2007 GMC truck has 100k mile ATF fluid change intervals. It does have a dipstick to check. I'm at 102k miles with no ATF fluid change yet to date and the fluid is still red.

    • @Atixtasy
      @Atixtasy 3 роки тому

      There is no dipstick, only a fill "port" its actually a bolt, and a drain bolt, because as palebeachbum stated, most trans these days have a closed system as the industry calls them. They MIGHT say it can last 100k or 100k+ but I've never believed that crap imo. Therefore, I am going to change it out about 20k EARLIER than the recommended 100k my 2018 elantra says to prolong the trans life. Even if I'm "playing it too safe", I'd personally rather do that, than have to get a whole new trans lol

      B Keller this super thin oil manufacturers want us to use is a joke, I have this car , changed oil to 10 30 wt, owners manual say it's ok, quieted it down nicely.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 6 років тому

      Steve Franklin did it increase fuel consumption? Running a thicker oil generally does. If the manual states its ok to use thicker oil, it ahould be fine, but if only the thin stuff is recommended, dont run thicker oil. It can cause engine issues later in its life.

    Finding Parts For This Car (2017 Elantra SE 2.0) Is Like A Needle In A Haystack. Autozone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, And Other Aftermarket Car Parts Stores Don't Have The Exact Parts, Only the oil filter and air filter. I had a problem with the engine mount went to every auto part store and none had the right engine mount, I had to buy it at the Hyundai Dealership and the price for it was $180 (Overpriced) and I had to wait to get it shipped. Trust me, you want new brakes and rotors, you have to get them at the Hyundai Dealership and the price is most likely $400!! Don't get a Hyundai, my next car is gonna be a Honda or Toyota!!

      When you buy a new, Or relatively new car, the manufacturer is the only one who makes parts!! The secondary market has to have time, and a reason to tool up and get all the information it needs to make the parts. New cars generally don't start requiring parts till around 5 years old.. Most people who have a new car won't let any old place work on it, they want the dealership to do any work. Also, if you don't drive till the brakes destroy the rotors and drums, you won't need to replace them . I have a 2017 Elantra, bought new, 81.000 miles, 0 problems, 0 repairs. Brakes just checked, and I was told they have a long way to go before needing replacing.

    I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. I would stay away. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of bombs. I bought it used so am only covered up to 60000 miles. I said to Hyundai ok if this is so normal cover my car to the full 10 year 100000 mile warranty. They just keep giving me the run around. I mean if there is no issue with the car it would not cost them anything to give the full powertrain warranty. I have no confidence in the longevity of this engine and unfortunately it looks like they are putting these in more models. Also I think these engines are in the Kia Forte and other Kia models.

      I have 40K on mine. I love it. Not one problem. I get over 40mpg I have a 2018 Elantra SE with the manual. I am switching to 5w30 next oil change because 5w20 and 5w30 are in the same temp range in the manual and I'd rather have a little thicker oil...I love the car. I can see this car hitting 250K easily.

    • @ErrorAcquired

      Buying pre-owned comes with 60,000k mile warranty. They dont have to extend that for any reason. However you have the option to get a 3rd party additional coverage. The dealership is not paying for it, so you will have to pay the monthly charges. Just to re-iterate, Hyundai has no obligation to extend your warranty because you believe the engine sounds weird to you. Remember you get the certified pre owned warranty included in your purchase. The 10 year 100,000 is for new Hyundai's only and as you stated you forgo that by deciding to save some cash by purchasing a used vehicle. Whos to say the 1st owner ran the thing low on oil and then filled it up and sold it back. No one would know exept for the person buying it used. But that person is covered 60,000 miles and if they dont like that, they should buy new and disrguard buying used as used can bring issues as you do not know who drove it before you like a 16 year old teen that drag races with his friends after school and accidentally shifted from 3rd to 1st and over-reved the shit out of the engine causing internal damages. Teen tells dad what happend, dad says no worries, Ill trade it in for the new higher end model.
