I agree, I think manufacturers of barefoot shoes are ripping customers off with excessive pricing, when the cost of living is spiralling through the roof. I checked your link Pete for these shoes but couldn’t find the actual shoe? I’m not a fan of it to be honest but I’m looking for a cheap barefoot shoe for doing the gardening outside, rather than using my Altra Escalante 3 running shoes. Since noticing a bunion on my left foot recently I’m in the process of switching over from narrow toe box shoes to wide toe box shoes, but the options are endless and researching it is like a minefield to be honest. It just seems like a market that’s currently overpriced, until the big manufacturers like ASICS step in. That’ll be karma for VIVO after being so greedy for market share.
I bought a pair from US Amazon that look like skate shoes. After watching this video I pulled out the insoles to look at them, and you're right, there's some arch support. I still think they're a good intro to barefoot/foot-shaped/zero drop shoes if you've never tried them before.
Hi, I’ve had a pair of these, I switched the insole for an old Vivo insole from a worn out pair and they were really good (apart from the weird toe look). I’m a postman and do about 13 miles a day in barefoots, so they lasted pretty well for the money. The weird toe look put me off buying anymore though, I’m now on my second pair of Voovix (Amazon brand), look a little more normal and again no barefoot insole, so still using the same Vivo insole (4th time now) and they are pretty good at a fraction of the cost of normal barefoot shoes. Great video.
Nice vid review 👍 I have a pair of cheap water shoes that are similar to these and I find they are the best fitting barefoot shoe for my foot by miles. So many of the more expensive brands are actually quite narrow. Some Vivos are narrower than my regular trainers. Do you have any tips for a medium-expensive brand that are better for very wide feet? I’ve got some freet which are pretty nice and I like that they have a thicker sole, but to get the width I have to have them a bit longer than I would like. Certainly too long and loose for cardio.
@@PeteOnPurpose Not yet. On the photos the toe box looks quite tapered and that has put me off. My toes are more square, with little toe perhaps only a couple of cm lower than big toe.
I’ve had a pair of these and a pair of their canvas casual variety for 2 years now. Switch out the insoles for zero drop ones will solve the problem. I used Spencos. The canvas ones are really good casual shoes, they don’t look out of place with a simple pair of jeans and a flannel shirt.
I just bought some pure step ones and they were cheap, afterwards many people said online there a scam but they turned up and it’s made me want to buy a proper pair as didn’t want to pay more for something I wouldn’t use.
I think the rubber section adds a little bit of support to help hold your foot. And it makes it look more like a shoe instead of a sock/slipper. I actually like it.
i have a similar shoe and put the insole out! i even did a mountain hike with them what was pretty easy and i only had to change shoes when it started raining i a was little scared to slip.
Aren't they a little too tight for you in the toe box? I recently ordered very similar ones, and even though they are wider than normal shoes, there is still a little pressure on the big toe.
FYSA, you can buy cork sheets to cut your own insoles. They're very cheap to buy but many sellers are onto this and increase prices, tagging the product with superfluous words about* your foot health.
With the new inners they are actually pretty comfy, however the fact they come with the wrong insole, they are a slipper not a trainer and the finger toes is what scores them a 4

@@Tailslol Not for me! I was doing that for years util I found real barefoot shoes - and even for a while with barefoot shoes until I found properly wide ones, and it still wasn't enough.
I bought these and for me it ain't cheap I paid about 80$ cause of shipping and tax but they are so good but they have like dozen models under same name and listening you have to choose the correct one. I got one with knitted upper and elestic adjustable laces
I'm looking into barefoot shoes for a couple of days now and i guess these could be really good for getting into barefoot living. The price is ridicilous so wouldn't hurt trying them out. Are you still wearing them and how do they hold up?
I wear these mostly for the gym and they are holding on pretty well to be fair. If you are interested in try barefoot shoes out this could be a good starter shoe for sure. 😀
@@PeteOnPurpose I am on my 3rd day walking completely barefoot (so no shoes or socks) while walking the dogs and it's amazing!!! Don't know if this is possible but i had daily back and knee pain, strange pulling feeling in left leg from hip to big toe and this is all gone for most part 😲😲😲 Not sure if i need barefoot shoes tbh, hahaha

Haha yea still not sure what the point of the finger toes is for these? Im wearing them in the gym for a while so at least i feel i get my moneys worth 😅
@@PeteOnPurpose they were fine with socks, I didn’t notice much. At the moment I’m subscribing to it’s not pain or discomfort it’s just sensation and my feet have been numb to sensation for years so through barefoot and doing more in barefoot shoes they won’t feel discomfort anymore as they will be conditioned better

I think the insole with the heel arch is actually a benefit, because it helps with the transition to barefoot shoes for beginners.
You might be right and you can always switch it out if you don't wan it.
@@PeteOnPurposecan you just remove it altogether?

They are definitely good for the price, I have been using mine in the gym and they work really well. 😊
I just take the insoles out. They're made to be worn without them. The insoles, as you said, are more of a way to gradually transition

@@PeteOnPurpose Not yet. On the photos the toe box looks quite tapered and that has put me off. My toes are more square, with little toe perhaps only a couple of cm lower than big toe.
They are the widest barefoot shoes I have tried although I now live in my Altra shoes which are also pretty wide
Whitin makes several styles; many don’t have the toey thing. Mine don’t. They just look like a regular sneaker.
They are 40 now. I came here to see if there's different shares that already have but you showed the shoes I have

Yes they are not as bad as I made them out, though I still don’t quite understand the finger toes?!
@@PeteOnPurpose Yeah, that’s not my favorite feature, wish they would eliminate that.
Same. I bought 2 different pairs of casual shoes and switched the insoles and have been happy with both the look and feel.
Are these any good for long distance running?
I don’t know to be honest as I don’t run due to knee problems

Yes it definitely adds to the aesthetics, I am not so much into the finger toes at the front.
So do these style of shoes still force you to run in a barefoot style or are they just minimalist shoes?
if you take out the insoles they are barefoot

to be honest i did not wear them out side much just for the gym so they still look brand new
