    This video came to me at the perfect time. I have been thinking ahead about winter and how to setup all of my new orchid children hahaha. I also call them him and her all the time and tell people they are my children, but only because I am a crazy person 💃🐒. Thank you for your dedication to another successful experiment! And for saving me and probably some others the pain and $money$ of trying something else and maybe fail or not be as successful. I will be trying these bulbs out myself. It's good to be a member 😉😁

    So cool that you talked about the showering part, I’ve seen some UA-camrs and comments talking about that subject and how they think that just because it happens in nature, they asume that the same conditions will replicate in their environment (which can actually happen) but it’s not white or black, and I think that’s an awesome lesson of the hobby: something might work for you, but could be a death sentence for someone else’s orchid.

    I think that on phalaenopsis and other orchids, the response of orchids to lack of natural light is to put out bigger and wider leaves to spread out and find more light. It saids in societies here in vandas not having long photoperiods of sun or lack of sun might result to more broad leaves than usual. And it could possibly be a bad sign.
    I grew my orchids outside and my phalaenopsis aprhodite stoped producing bigger leaves this time that I grew them outside receiving 2 hours of afternoon sun. It's the opposite when it comes to phalaenopsis. It does not need to grew bigger leaves because it received enough and adjusted to the place I've put it.
    It might make sense I think..

    They’re all doing wonderful, the texture of the leaves show the plant is putting in a good fight. The ones that are still a little pale, are just a little slow to recover from stress but they will. By texture i simply mean the floppy, wilted like, pliability versus the stiffer feel of the leaves. Indirect light epiphytes do need a different spectrum than what most grow lights provide, which are set to mimic direct light. For some aquarium lights may help with this; their spectrum is designed to mimic the filtered light as it travels through the water. which is a good match to indirect light spectrums.

    Thank you Danni for teaching me so much about orchids! My poor little supermarket plants think you're the best and want to say thank you for the much-needed repotting and increased light source. Haha. Seriously, I don't know how I ever thought they'd be happy to stay in their supermarket pots/media forever. Now I know, and they're putting out beautiful new leaves and flower spikes. :D

    Hey Danny! Love this video but have a question for you about a recent orchid I acquired. I have a brassavola cattleya hybrid and I'm wondering how often I should water it since cats like to dry out between waterings but brassavolas do not I've heard. How should I water this hybrid?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, honestly Brassavolas are just like Catts, they can do great in even a bit less light. The whole drying out thing is for the sake of the medium more, Catts tolerate drought like nothing else, the more the medium stays dry, the slower it degrades, so the roots will grow in airy, suitable parameters for longer. Catts grow just as well wet in inorganic media 😉 Brassavolas are the same, the orchid will tell you when the drought is too much by shrivelling its psb, so let it guide you and just don't over do it, not with drought, not with wetness. Good luck!

    Hi Danny, I have a question regarding this video. The results are clear but I did not get which was the light situation before therefore the comparaison (and I don't remember your previous light setup for this group of phal). Were they under your led panel / bulb? Thank you for sharing and reading this

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, yes as I was saying in this video I had them under the panel, or just normal bulbs throughout the years, which is apparent in my video archive on a quick search. I talk about them, or some of them, in the previous gemma videos too linked in the description. As I was saying in this video I was curious if I would get a better and more vivid leaf color, as I established in the previous video update linked in the description that results were so much better with the tomato plant, but not that visible with the african violets.

    Paula from Mexico. Question: MSU, I have been using it. Ed Orchids said that the MSU doesn’t have enough potassium in it. Then in one of your links on potassium it said the potassium levels should be at least 300 per what ever. What do you think do you use a potassium supplement with MSU. If so what?????

    • @momepenni

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 роки тому

      You always need to think about your context, yellow leaves can also mean crown rot, too much light, sun burn, magnesium deficiency, nitrogen deficiency, dehydration and 100 more things. You need to find the problem you have, not other people might have. Also don't take so literal whatever anyone on the internet says, we are all biased to some extent, some more than others. Take things logically, don't stress too much about every little detail and what everyone says. Focus on your situation and see what applies, what doesn't, who makes sense for you, who doesn't. Hope you find the source of your problems, if indeed you have any! Your orchids might be just fine actually 😉
