  • Why do we Fly fish for Muskies? What drives us to chase these elusive fish? For every angler it is different. So I had the opportunity to ask the Famous author John Gierach on why he chases the fish of 10,000 cast. Here are just a few reasons why we chase these fish

    I have pondered this same thing, why do we spend so much time and effort to catch fish?? I 💯% agree it's about the challenge of catching a fish that's hard to catch. The harder to catch the better in my opinion!!
    Life is all a lesson and there is Always more to learn and grow our love of fishing!

    Get this, brand new fly rod fishing for crappie. A musky decides to take my little tiny fly. my dad instantly asks for my rod, but he doesn't know how to fight big fish on a fly rod and he used the rod like it was a baitcaster. mUsky turned really fAst and snapped my rod in half. nOt my best fishing day.

    I couldn't agree more, this is an absolute dream/bucket list fish for me especially on the fly and perhaps out of a kayak since I don't have a boat or a truck to pull it. I have only chased them twice with the fly and had some follows out of my buddy's Crappie style boat (LOwe Skorpion 16ft) which was awesome and he missed a take as he pulled the fly out of the water. Spent most of the time with the trolling motor on low and beating the banks of a local lake known for skis. I hope to get out there this year and hook and land one. Great video on why we are obsessed with muskies and muskies on the fly, that older gentleman was spot on.

    I have been on two guided trips with only one musky seen following my fly. Fished a local lake for hours upon hours(the only lake near me that contains musky) never saw one. I’m close to 10000. Also, pike near me in southwest PA are hard to catch. Have caught some on the fly but not many. I call them the fish if 2000 casts.

      Hello, I know your comment was posted three years ago, you may not care about musky anymore and I don’t know where you live exactly in southwestern PA. All that being said, if you’re in the very west of the state, the Ohio and Allegheny rivers and their drainages provide a great musky fishery. I say this because the only musky fishing I’ve experienced so far has been in the stretch of the Allegheny which veers north into NY for forty or fifty miles. I live in Warsaw, NY. Surrounded by great musky fishing, just not immediately at my fingertips. The Ohio river contributes to a large portion of quality musky fishing to be had in other states like Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and West Virginia. A very significant body of water to the sport. Not in that it produces record fish, but rather how it makes musky fishing more accessible to many people in many places who want to experience some decent musky action

    At 3:30 it looked like you intentionally anchored your last back cast. Trying to get a little extra load and distance?

    loved the video! 13 guided days on the water and zero Muskies for me. I must be getting close to 10,000 casts by now so I'm excited about going tomorrow in Tennessee!

    Pikes are about the same, I catch max 6 pikes in a day. Sometimes I can go days without a bite, it’s great to catch them. That’s the reason bass isn’t my type of fish

    Fishing musky on the fly from shore is ridiculous at best, BUT have been loving every minute of it. The 38/40 inch I caught on the wisconsin river actually discouraged me as it was set the hook, pull it near, thrash thrash and in the net. Quite lame compared to a 22 inch brown on the bighorn where you will go into backing but it's more about the hunt than the fight. Love the vid.

    • @BeerCheese
      @BeerCheese 5 років тому +1

      If you hooked a 22 inch brown on 40 lb test you could drag that sucker to the bank like you were pulling a naughty child out of the toy isle at Wal-Mart.
