Many of the Hurricane Hellene victims live on "family land". No mortgage. No rent costs. Most are not high income families. They don't have the money to rent an apartment or house. They stay on the land because it is all that they have! Living in tents or sheds has got to be tough. I pray that answers are found for these people soon.
I am a homeowner. I do not have flood insurance nor earthquake insurance. I’ll bet everyone in the insurance industry knows what I am exposed to. It is up to me to find out. I live in California only a few miles from the San Andreas and lots of smaller, less active faults. Many years ago Earthquake insurance became too expensive for most homeowners in CA. Also, I do not have flood insurance. I believe that I cannot buy flood insurance even if I wanted it. My house is between a dam/reservoir and the ocean. I want to be prepared. The best way that I have found is to save my own money separate from insurance (self-insure). In the event of those major disasters, I would need to rebuild a house. How much does that cost? No amount of insurance will restore keepsakes lost in disasters. I have never been in these disasters but perhaps the federal government would step in with grants or inexpensive loans (when there is no insurance). I guess when you decide to be a homeowner it is best to think that to be safe, you must buy your house twice. Once to live in it and once to replace it if it goes away.
Back about 15 yrs ago our long time insurance agent was retired by his company. We decided to go to a new company for a homeowners review and new policy. The new company and agent we were referred to did a thorough evaluation and really upped the value of our property coverage for not much more money (we owned the house outright, no mortgage). 2 months later we had a house fire that destroyed our house and all our belongings. Thanks to the new valuation, we were able to recover the entire cost of rebuilding a much better built larger structure, as well as cover replacement costs of our lost valuables. The lessons we learned from that experience taught us not to scrimp on our insurance coverages, and to make sure that our agent is reviewing our policy and updating it yearly. Hopefully we will never go through this again, but I am confident we could survive without being wiped out completely.
Fires also where we are we hit dry spell high winds. Its scary watching fire spreading, and if your volunteer fire, how many are available because they work
I'm from western NC and most people didn't even get the whole $750. you had to plead your case to get it. The money is slow to get to the folks here and most didn't have flood insurance. The water reach many areas that wasn't even in a flood plane and never dreamed it could happen but it did.
Dear God, you folks are always, always in my prayers! I lost a home to fire but I can't even begin to understand the burdens and fears you must have experienced. God Bless you!
@kathysherrill7243 I know a couple families that live there too. Sadly, they have had the same experience as you. We are still praying for you guys. I'm so sorry.
I have lived just outside of Asheville for almost 60 years. Had acquaintances who lost food because of no power and they applied online and the money was directly deposited into their bank accounts and there is no expectation or requirement of repayment. I too was without power and water, because I'm on a well, for six days and threw out most of the food in my freezer as well but I am blest beyond all measure and do not need " the government" which is you and I to pay for my groceries. Some people lost everything and watched their houses float down the river while others were barely impacted. I work at a nonprofit relief agency so I know what I'm speaking about and yes, every situation is different. Prayers are coveted and appreciated. 😊
@deborahlawing2728 i didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest with my comment, was just saying everyone hasn't had it easy getting funding and not everyone had flood insurance. our church is helping and feeding people that need it God is Good and he will provide. p.s. I should know to never comment or share an experience lol.
As an ham radio operator we learned thst Michigan has a fault line. We put insurance on our home and requested our daughter to keep it insured when she was buy the home. I'm not sure if thet currently have earthquake insurance as they own the home now. Thank you for helping people to be aware of such needs.❤😊
Andrea, many of those people affected in North Carolina by the flooding were in zones that were not flood zones. So flood insurance wasn't offered. We've check for our farm, and have been advised flood insurance is not needed. I do believe we need earthquake insurance Agreed, everyone should call and check with your insurance..
In 1990 there was 7 ft of water in my house where I had been living for 30 yrs and there was no warning we would be flooded. I lost everything , even my most precious photos, cards my boys made me in school. I didn't have flood insurance because we weren't in a flood zone.
If you purchase flood or earthquake insurance check what your deductible will be. You may be looking at a MUCH larger deductible than your home owners fire insurance.
It’s a terrible thing to live in fear. Don’t do it. Prepare the best you can and leave the rest in His hands. I’m also close to the New Madrid, it could turn really bad. Thanks for the reminders..
I live North of New Madrid area and remember the Browning professor who made that prediction. Most everyone went to bed as usual. Nothing happened. But, since Edgar Cayce predicted it, it WILL happen, it just hasn't happened yet! Everything Cayce predicted has come true except the US splitting and California sliding into the Pacific! Time will tell.
I believe the date was December 3,1993 or 92. I remember it well. We did drills at school and church. I live in north Mississippi. We were all gonna die.
That 750.00 was an immediate cash flow for the people. Maybe they needed medicine, etc. this was to put a little cash in their pockets. It was not intended to be all the help these folks would get. But after receiving this emergency $$$ then would come paperwork for additional help which yes, it takes time.
I remember the when a scientist predicted that the New Madrid fault was going to have an event on Dec. 3rd 1990. We were all scrambling around getting quake insurance. Good news is, y'all don't have to worry about flooding if the Greers Ferry Dam fails.
It has been told time and time again by government officials that the $750 was an immediate assistant not the aid, however with the funding freeze just put on there may be no more to come. We will see what happens.
Paaaalease don’t put anything on the current administration it was the last administration that is to blame. How many BILLIONS did your administration give to Ukraine?? For what? $750 ooh don’t spend it all in one place now. Idiot comment. Ask the Lahaina if they ever received more and that big $750 lump gave them a huge boost and made them feel taken care of.
If I an ever in a flood where the water rolls up to my doorstep in my part of Arkansas, every person in below 1300' will be under 100's of feet of water. Earthquake or tornado is different.

So true
The $750.00 was for immediate needs such as groceries, clothes, medicine ect. My understanding is that people affected could get up to $42,500.00.
That’s not what I heard.
750.00 won't by much groceries

I also live in SoCal and i have always heard that earthquake insurance is super expensive! But i have never asked my agent so maybe i should.
God bless you. I am glad you are doing o.k. This is a good video to get people thinking.

I happen to agree with you and be prepared, it may happen it may not but being prepared and ready is the best medicine!
Thank you for sharing your concerns and research
I have plan to get out to south east Texas! You’ve given me some more information to think about thanks for the information!!!

@NoBody11010 I am not lying just because you didn't have difficulty dosen't mean some did. my experience may not be the same as yours.

Most of the people in NC, who’s homes were destroyed by flood, didn’t live in a flood zone-therefore they never thought they’d need flood insurance.
I live in North Carolina yes a lot people wouldn't living in flood zone had lot mud slides

Did not sound like a "pitch" to me. Just one neighbor sharing thoughts and concerns with another neighbor. 😊
They are also being told it was a flipping loan, and that they had to pay it back!!! Such bs
Don't know where you heard this, but FEMA assistance is NOT a loan and does not need to be repaid. 😊

Why are my comments removed? Am I shadowbanned or something?

But earthquake insurance do not covers 100% of your loses.
We do have earthquake insurance because we are in the same zone you are
Well we know why they got $750 if that amount.
❤
That was a $700 loan! They are required to pay it back or lose their land!
FEMA assistance is not a loan nor does it need to be repaid. Get your facts straight instead of spreading misinformation. 😮

❤🤍💙 Well Said ❤🤍💙I grew up in Washington State, we had our fair share of earthquakes. ❤🤍💙
