Hey man, bought one in desert yellow (lefty). I wanted to say that the neck feels identical to my 5320-csw prestige out of the box, and it's been overall really solid. Thanks for the review, it helped me decide to go for it and I have no regrets.
Whats up brother- great video as usual- I was thinking the other day. If I didn't start on my J Custom or really like the Fluence in my mahogany prestige my opinion of the 550 would be completely different. It would be my fav if I didnt have the others. It really is a great guitar. Were just a bit spoiled. Ha- have a great weekend-
Thanks! We definitely are! And you can feel the difference between these models for sure. Good thing is this guitar is good enough that even though it's not a J cilustom or anything, it's still great fun!
The square joint is indeed a big problem on this guitar. It all depends on what you like to play and your benchmarks (22 frets versus 24 frets). But for me, I always favor a one piece neck. But apart from this aspect, I would like to have this guitar in my collection. Thank you for this 2nd review and have a good day.
Why favor a one piece neck? Just curious. Agree on the fret benchmarks. It would be annoying for me if this was my only 24 fret guitar but I'm usually more around the 12th and 15th frets so it's just fine. Definitely a worthwhile possible addition to your collection
10:44 Hi @@HighZ, one piece neck or softened rounded joint, like your prestige. In short, a neck that allows you to feel comfortable on frets 20 to 24. On the other hand, as for the one piece neck, it's also a question of vibrations. The vibrations will not be intercepted by the neck joint, the right hand will feel it. On that note, on en reparle, A+!
This is an issue if you value 22-24 frets and depends on your sensitivity, your picking, what you play and how long you have been playing. I have been playing for 35 years and have broken my hand and ears multiple times by uncomfortable instruments and low vibration and sound quality. You can often only rely on your experience to determine a difference. The more you try guitars, the more you learn.
Thanks for the detailed reviews of this guitar. I watched them all. I was going to buy this guitar but the square neck hill kinda hit me hard.. If somebody wants to buy a HSH Ibanez guitar with FR bridge and 24 frets then probably there should be a reason to buy it. For me too, probably this kind of guitar, I would put playabiility number one.. so I may buy this guitar but will find another options first 😁
Thanks for doing a complete articulate review. I am considering buying this model RG but because I'm not a great player, I'm also considering the 450. Have you experienced that guitar, how would you compare the super wizard neck to the wizard 3?
Great question! It's true the wizard 3 is slightly thicker but the biggest difference is the profile. The wizard 3 feels like it has more shoulder where the super wizard will be a little closer to an ultra thin C/D. I prefer the super wizard personally but it's very possible you'll like one or the other! The 550 genesis will have higher build quality but the 450 has the comfortable all access neck joint. Either guitar can be a great workhorse. A good setup with fresh strings will benefit both of course
It seems like a great value at around 1k. I've seen it drop down to $700 during sales. Definitely going to keep my eyes open after your review(s). And I love that vermillion-ish red. Would make for an interesting mod project if nothing else.
I have the budget, and I'm torn between rg 550 genesis or the rga 622xh. I know it's weird choice considering the huge diference of the price. So....I need your advice, please. And thank you
This is probably best answered by focusing on big unchangeable differences between the two guitars. Do you strongly like/dislike one of the body shapes? Do you need a neck pickup near the 24th fret or is the neck/middle of the RGA an ok compromise? Are you ok with a square neck heel or do you need the all access neck joint if you're playing up there regularly? Answering these questions will help you decide. Hope this helps!
I am considering upgrading from my strat to a superstrat and this guitar is in my top 3 choices along with a kramer and a charvel, the problem I have with rg550 is that it would probably be my number 1 choice but I seriously dislike all of the colors, I wish they had on offer one in blue or dark green or some other shade of red
That would definitely be an issue since the color is impossible to ignore. There are some good prestige options that are dark blue and red but they're much more expensive unfortunately
@@HighZ I just checked the Ibanez website to check something about the S series and God has finally answered my prayers and added new colors (black and blue) for the rg550 genesis, f'in finally, guess I can bin that charvel and get the Ibanez
As much as I love my 1999 RG 3120 prestige My 1991 RG550 Has an overall better feeling neck to me. Both are wizard profiles(17mm @1st and 20mm@ the12rh) and have Rosewood FB's But the RG550 is so much more played in feeling. That's the key for me🤘
@@HighZ Yeah the RG 550 is a keeper no doubt and I am hoping the RG3120 get's that same played in neck feel in time as well? It was bought used but the original owner never played it. Zero fret wear.
Man, how did lighting get t that orange?..if they released that color, I would buy another one in a heartbeat!, my NP rg550 wouldn’t mind at all!, that square heel joint is a non issue, it’s all there was back in the day..doesn’t effect my playing at all.,do I know it’s there?, sure, but it doesn’t matter to me, aanj, or block heel, I’m good with both
Yeah it's always crazy to see how road flare red will appear on different cameras with different lighting. I hear you on the neck joint, it's annoying at worst and not so bad at best
Just taking a guess, the lights in the background are purple... Is your camera adding yellow for white balance? Maybe that's why the guitar looks orange
That might work! But I'm going to start looking like an alien if I adjust it too far! In person the purple really accentuates the color but the camera is dead set on this being orange 😆
14 minutes review with a guitar in your hands but without actually playing it is a bit disappointing. But i like the depth of the review itself and the picture.
Thank you for appreciation the depth. This is a follow up to another video where I used the guitar to play an original song so be sure to check that out if you'd like to hear the guitar

Awesome! Yeah it really does feel just like it. Glad you got a guitar you enjoy, it's really good!
hey im also lefty i also bought a dy 550 i noticed the lefty one does not have a tension bar and righty one does

There are so many factors that affect how a guitar behaves! Great to know
It’s a non issue..😅

Square heel is just to be faithful to the original 550. There are many versions of the 550 with AANJ also.
Figured as much. Would have loved to have thr AANJ on this but then I guess it wouldn't be called "genesis"
Excellent review, my friend!!❤🎸
Thank you very much!

It certainly would be perfect with an all access neck joint! Good luck on your guitar hunt

$700 would be the best deal of all time 🤯 it would be the perfect project guitar although it's pretty great as is too!
Nice that it plays well, just looks like it would.
If only had the slick stainless steel frets for some super zoomy slides
That would be great! I'll get some on here when it inevitably needs a refret

If getting to all 24 is important try a King V
For sure, hardly anything beats a V when it comes to fret access. I love my arrow!

The neck is certainly ultra important in a guitar so that makes perfect sense! Sounds like your 550 is a keeper and the perfect playing machine!

Are they generic Dimarzio pu ?
They're the V7 and V8 with the S1 in the middle. I don't think they're branded as DiMarzio
@@HighZ they are made to replicate dimarzio pafs
