This game is known as Mickey mania on other platforms. The playstation version is mostly the same but it is not a direct port and a lot of the gfx were redrawn and extended for this version of the game and maybe part of the reason for the name change. It was also released exclusively as PAL release.
There is some really nice parallax scrolling going on in some levels as well as a little 3d added just to make sure you know you are playing a playstation game. The music isn't bad but the 16 bit console music was better in my opinion and matches more closely to this style of 2d game. It was also similar for SegaCD where a lot of orchestrated sound tracks sounded out of place in a 2d platform game amongst others.. The only real turn off in the game is the lengthy loading times. You would think a 2d platformer that was just a couple of megabits large on the 16 bit machines would take so long to load just a small chunk of the game at any one time.
I play the game on Hard difficulty and try to collect as many stars as I can. Not because i need them, but more to show where they are although there were a few that seemed out of bounds to me and didn't spend any time trying to get them and moved on. I have tried to show any hidden areas and in the case of the first chapter allows for warping past the crane boss. After showing the hidden area I cut back to completing the level properly (which i added after completing the game, so marbles wont match up when it cuts back to level 2)
The final level was a little annoying with weasels everywhere and i guess I could have just jumped and bypassed most em saving some time in the longplay but I got caught up with shooting everything. Its a good version of the game with reasonable length which makes a nice change to the usual 3-4 hour my psx longplays end up being.

Me too, this game was so cool when I was a small kid. Hope everyone who comes here has that nice warm nostalgia feeling. Even if home life was terrible, video games took that pain away.

I never noticed how subtle the transition from black and white to coloured background was in in the Steamboat Willie Level until now
and its completely wrong considering that the original film was in BW, and the same with the Mad Doctor that level should also have been in BW.
I always got stuck in that haunted castle level.

The first few levels with the colour slowly fading in made a lasting impression on me for my entire life. Game was unbelievably difficult though lol.
One of my favorite games I used to play as a kid. The music is done so well, the adrenaline was almost too much for my 8 year old mind.

I might remember wrong but when I look at this footage it doesnt look any harder than Rescue Rangers or Rush n attack for nes and I used to play those games with my eyes closed. @@ArminHaba
@@GringoTensai This is not easy for a kids' game. Also, finding the Band Concert bonus level is awkward as hell, never mind finishing it.
I never could beat this game as a kid always got stuck and somehow looped back to the same stage over and over again.

Well it came out in 1994, re released on ps1 many lears later. Depends which version lol you may not have even been born yet.
My first ps1 game :) pretty difficult for a kids game, but I enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful levels and good soundtrack.
Can you play this on PS2 with a PS2 controller?

the amount of work they put in these animations is just mind boggling, even different sprites for walking up slopes ( 28:57 )
Yeah, unfortunately not everyone understands the amount of effort takes to make these kind of animations, bit one thing is for sure: they look pretty damn good

This was a remaster of Mickey Mania, and this is the best version of all of them.
I prefer the Sega CD version so that's your opinion I guess. Dont get me wrong the visuals are beutiful but I'm nostalgic for the Sega CD version

Actually not a remaster or remake. It came out around the same time as the 16 bit version. It's just a superior PS1 version.
Whenever cuphead came out and saw the style and heard the music I immediately remembered this game

I always loved how this game transitioned from black & white to color really shows how far mickey mouse has come, Steamboat Willie the first ever animation is 90 years old ! can you believe it.

What a lovely cute charming game this was. And RIDICULOUSLY HARD!!!!! ALWAYS died on the last level of the game. So nice to see someone complete it and so brilliantly as well. Great skill.
When this game came out a classmate told me that Mickey was constantly looking at his watch because he was late to a date with Minnie and had to beat all those levels to arrive to her. I see now I was trolled!

When I was 7 or 8yo I was really good on videogames. Back then I already finished Crash Bandicoot 3, Medievil, Resident evil 2, Final Fantasy VIII, several GT licenses, Metal Gear... Yet I couldn't ever finish this!

For some reason my PS1 version of this video game didn't have a save function, so I just had to do my best and not fail or else I'd have to start all over again.

Finally. Finally I decided to try and finish this game for once and for all. It took a few hours of practice but I finally managed to finish it.
Even with some of the loading times compared to the original SNES and Genesis, this is hands-down my favourite version of Mickey Mania. And sorry Matt, but I also think this version truly has the best-sounding soundtrack. Heck, in my view, everything in it looks and sounds like a big improvement from the 16-bit and Sega CD versions (again, except maybe for some of the loading times).

I the mission steam boat willie, there is a secret platform with a door, if you fall short of the platform there is the texture of a walk way, its accessible but only ever went through once, this triggers the mad doctor level, when you walk through the tunnel with Pluto, it doesnt skip to the next level like useual, you walk back and the mad doctor is a baby mad doctor.
I wonder how I played it through as a child. The game was legendary and is pure nostalgia

Ah, my childhood memories. This was my very first PS1 game I ever played, and one of my earliest exposures to Mickey Mouse. In fact, I had 3 of the cartoons this game is based on: Moose hunters, Mickey and the Beanstalk and The Prince and the Pauper. Though this game existed in consoles before the PlayStation, this will always be my Mickey Mania.

I remember my brother borrowed this from a friend for a week and we couldn’t get past that bloody tower in the second or third level. It was a really hard game!
The difficulty is the result of bad design. There is scarcely a way to avoid getting hit in most levels.
