The environment, the guitarist, the singer, the interpretation, the delicacy of feelings, the incredible time spent studying to reach this level of perfection, seem to me to be the height of good taste. Hearing and seeing something so pure, one gets the impression that wars are impossible, differences are unlikely, and hate is utopia, not love.
I appreciate the delicacy, sensitivity, grace, harmony and finesse of this magnificent tenor singing 'Des Fischers Liebesglück,' Philippe Sly. Guitarist John Charles Britton warm and slow tempo resonates in symmetry with the singer. The rhythmen in 'Des Fischers Liebesglück' is edited to perform on guitar. I enjoy this version more than when it is performed on the piano. KUDOS to P. Sly & J. C. Britton for this serene serenade.
for Brazilian ears, Philippe's singing and the guitar arrangement make it sound like bossa nova Schubert. Really surprising and great. One more proof that Schubert's lieder are for the ages, a never-ending source of musical wonder.
His interpretation of the German composers is unlike anything else I've heard. I've seen criticism that his approach is too "soft," but I am not always a fan of traditional opera for this reason, with some exceptions--Philippe's "softness" is deliberately and brilliantly utilized and makes the music sound more personal and easy to relate to. It's very modern and brings a tenderness to these famous songs that is so special and emotional and moving and different from other artists. It's given me a completely different appreciation for Schubert's Lieders when previously I've always approached him through the lens of a pianist. Thank you both for making these great videos available to us. Mathieu--you're so talented at matching the emotion of the music to the visuals and capturing these wonderful gestures and expressions.
Your comment is on point. I'm not a musician, but I love music. His renditions move me to tears, and I am not easily moved like that. By the way, in German, Lied is the singular and Lieder the plural. "Lieders" is not proper language.
Nanoochka certain German composers have to be attacked with tenderness - especially Schubert and Brahms - they are like a caring German mother - he understand these composers very good
I am really blown away by the talent involved in this video. I play classical guitar, I sing and I am a professional photographer. All the elements come together so beautifully! I did not know the song. Kudos. Exceptional.
dear Philippe, this is a very special and wonderful way to sing this lovely song, very lively and full with your own spirit . Great, thanks you, Kiss from Berlin :))
so touching, and Mathieu is a great videographer, maintaining audience attention...and the sound of the video is amazing, showing every detail of emotion
Very, very beautiful, emotional and the lyrics are so good to understand for a German ear. Thanks a lot!
Hello! I absolutely love your versions! I am a trombone player and I just formed a trombone/guitar duo and I would love, if it's possible to get the scores from your arrangements! I will of course pay you! Any way we can get in touch?
Like this. The guitar (Schubert was a guitarist) works so well here. I'm guessing most songs in this album are pitched 1/3 down than they would be with a piano.
Absolutely beautiful, both guitar and voice! I add my bit of salt to the discussions.... i've never liked traditional bass-baritones, most of them sound so artificially grave/bass to me.... if singing affectedly grave/bass is the "real opera bass-baritone", then I simply do not like it. Philippe Sly sings effortless, beautifully, the notes flow like a warm breeze, he sings clear without affection. Since I discovered him a few month ago I cannot stop listening to him.
nope.. what are you doing? go to the Mountains, at night in a boat.. kiss your beloved one and then try again.. This Boat is an American inflatable rubber boat
Very true. He just yells to get that high note every time. Too bad: the direct, fresh sound and convincing delivery of the text are really nice. And this song really works with the guitar. A little smidgen of technical polish and correcting his intonation in the high register would go a long way.

Finally Schubert with guitar instead of a loud piano. Brilliantly done! Thank you both very much.
A serenade setting...like we do in Coimbra!
there is a gorgeous Schöne Müllerin with Peter Schreier and Konrad Ragossnig on guitar. My favorite
That was the most beautiful singing that I heard in a very very long time...and the guitar accompaniment was brilliant...#genius #baritone
I appreciate the delicacy, sensitivity, grace, harmony and finesse of this magnificent tenor singing

not a tenor at all but yes
P. Sly is bass-baritone singer. Thank you for your correction. Season Greetings. @@lauraharding3101

Bravo comment...Chickenvilla!
I couldn't agree more! In fact I'd listen to him over a Fischer-Dieskau any day!
Spot on. It's way more intimate and precious then the other interpretations. All great in there own right, but I prefer his lullaby sound.
Nanoochka certain German composers have to be attacked with tenderness - especially Schubert and Brahms - they are like a caring German mother - he understand these composers very good
These two are the perfect combination.
His voice is soft and strong at the same time. I absolutely love it. 💖💖

So beautiful. A sweetness and a gentleness is so profoundly sung.
One of the best young singers around today, bravo Philippe and thanks, Mathieu!
I've listened to this 6 times since discovering it yesterday. In love.
How can one not love this? Beautiful sadness.
I have goose bumps. Heavenly beautiful...

Interpretació i acompanyament absolutament delicats.
Magnifique! Merci Philippe Sly.
Beautiful voice and with beautiful guitar accompaniment!
Qué voz mas maravillosa y una interpretación fantástica .... Bravooooo !!!! Schubert debe estar mas que orgulloso
How extraordinarily beautiful! Thank you so much, and bravo both!
Beautiful. I love Schubert and this is one of the most beautiful interpretations of Schuberts Songs. Really intimate and real.

Magnifique. Belle voix maîtrisée souple et harmonieuse. J'aime beaucoup ce duo guitare voix.
This sounds so modern
Darker, softer, i'd fall asleep in your arms... 💝
I love this song, and this is a beautiful interpretation.
Great, Chapeau & Hochachtung.

The fisherman's luck in love
English Translation © Richard Wigmore
Yonder light gleams
through the willows,
and a pale
glimmer
beckons to me
from the bedroom
of my sweetheart.
It flickers
like a will-o’-the-wisp,
and its reflection
sways
gently
in the circle
of the undulating lake.
I gaze
longingly
into the blue
of the waves,
and greet
the bright
reflected beam.
And spring
to the oar,
and swing
the boat
away on
its smooth,
crystal course.
My sweetheart
slips lovingly
down
from her little room,
and joyfully
hastens to me
in the boat.
Then the breezes
gently
blow us
again
out into the lake
from the elder tree
on the shore.
The pale
evening mists
envelop
and veil
our silent,
innocent dallying
from prying onlookers.
And as we exchange
kisses,
the waves
lap,
rising
and falling,
to foil eavesdroppers.
Only stars
in the far distance
overhear us,
and bathe
deep down
below the course
of the gliding boat.
So we drift on
blissfully,
in the midst
of darkness,
high above
the twinkling
stars.
Weeping,
smiling,
we think
we have soared free
of the earth,
and are already up above,
on another shore.

I'm in love for your singing and interpretativos. Amazing!
Ahhhhh LOVE it 👌👌💌💌💌💌
Bel Canto is a traditional classical voice field. It emphasizes "beautiful singing". It's Hallmark is missa di voce. The intonation swell.
It is wildly original in legato and utterly engaging

This is lovely! Well done.
Bravo Philippe 👍🙏
Merci, trop beau !
Intense beauty, the voice.
(A beautiful poem and song about sensitivity, love and imagination.)
Very nice interpretation of this hauntingly beautiful song. Your pronunciation is close to native German!

Is it possible to get the tabulatur for the guitar for this song? Really wonderful! Everything of course..
I have an on-going fantasy that Philippe and Edwin Crossley-Mercer will record an album together. I don't even care what it is!
Love the shirt.
I am without words after these 7 minutes, but not because of the shirt.
Qu’est-ce qu’il a une belle voix.
Thanks, beauty!
Where can I find this arrangement for guitar? I can only find piano accompaniment. :( Also, I would love to do this with high voice and guitar.
please come to germany and sing for us!!

The voice is very coarse and sounds half-trained. His approach to notes above the staff is positively amateur.
