Threads for Longarm Quilting

With your Coats & Clark thread make sure you didn’t pick up hand quilting thread - their HAND quilting thread has a wax coating on it that will leave a residue in your machine, usually worst in the tension discs. Doesn’t happen with light usage, but if you use a lot of it just be mindful. 😁

@@ruthtweto6457 I used to buy it from Linda's Electric Quilters, but they no longer carry it. I have since switched to OMNI thread.

@@sunrisequiltstudio Oh my there are so many to select from. Do you use the one called, Bottom Line? I had such trouble with cotton thread breaking on my long arm machine, I am wanting to switch to polyester. The one called Bottom line looks like it might work.

You are intermixing Tex with Weight. Both are usually listed, but not always. For example, you introduced King Tut as a 40 Tex thread, but King Tut is listed on the label and website as 40 wt. Depending on the exact density, this would be about Tex 25.

Hmm. I no long have any King Tut so I can't verify that, but all the thread I have now only has the Tex on them. I think that the 2 terms have always been intermixed in the longarm world around here where I live. No one seemed to mention Tex, but always talked about weight - even if the label only said Tex.

I’ve been struggling with Isacord thread. It seems a lot like the Glide thread. Do you wind Glide onto your bobbin? The isacord seems to change tension midway through every bobbin no matter what I do. I’m reluctantly changing threads. And I’m rather intimidated by the prospect.

I've never tried Isacord, but I have used Glide. I've used it in the bobbin as well and haven't had any problem. Sometimes I use a cotton or poly thread that matches the color of the Glide thread in the bobbin. I think the differences in the texture of the threads helps keep the knot securely tied. You might try using a cotton or poly in your bobbin with the Isacord and see if that helps.
