- It's fair to say Leeds United HATE Manchester United 🤬 Well, arguably both clubs are pretty hated amongst football fans... especially fans with accents like mine. BUT today, we're putting rivalries to one side as we take a look at the home of Leeds United Football Club and join the Elland Road Stadium Tour 🏟️ Are Leeds as MASSIVE as fans will have you believe ⁉️ Is Elland Road are nice stadium ⁉️ And will I SURVIVE the next 20+ minutes of this video ⁉️ Lets find out shall we... Some geeky facts about Elland Road;
1. What is now the home dug out used to be the away dug out.
2. The old North Stand (the Kop) used to have no roof on it.
3. The West stand was only built because it's predecessor burnt down.
4. Don Revie was a very superstitious man and once had a gypsy in to lift a curse that had been put on the ground by another gypsy in the are between the South stand and the West stand.
5. There used to be another pub opposite the East stand called the New Peacock which was actually older than the Old Peacock.
6. The best player we got from Man U was actually Johnny Giles. The story goes Matt Busby initially offered George Best to Don Revie but at the last minute changed his mind and decided to let Giles go instead. Giles had played in the 1963 Cup Final for Man U so in winning the 1972 FA Cup (the Centenary Final) he won his second winners medal.

My sister who sadly passed away 4 years ago was friends with lee sharpes sister and knew lee quite well back when he was at utd as he was a brummie boy.

Me and my boy were in the same tour group as you both. I gathered there was a UA-camr amongst us but didn’t expect it to be a scummer 😂. Ry , today you are Alan Smith!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 I’ll never forget the great Leeds United team of the 2001-02. What a team they had back then with the likes of Robbie Keane, Alan Smith, Lee Bowyer, Rio Ferdinand, Nigel Martyn, Jonathan Woodgate, Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Olivier Dacourt, Ian Harte etc etc. I love the new kit with Red Bull sponsor 😍

@@RysFootyParadise Yes , I agree it was indeed sad for the way Leeds eventually imploded with their spending. But what a player, Smudger was for them! 🔥 he was one of my favourites. He won the Premier League and the League Cup with Man Utd! I do feel a bit disappointed that he doesn’t get mentioned more these days. Let’s be honest though to replace a player like Roy Keane was impossible.
Great vid 👍 it’s been known for many years Leeds need some of the stands sorting out at Elland road specially behind the goals . Even in championship they can do 50 -60 k a week I don’t no why the owners don’t just get on with if .
I love traditional grounds but with Leeds having a big fan base - you’re right, get on with it and increase that revenue, especially with FFP always looming

First club to have 3 colours in the scarfs. Blue yellow blue stripes on white. Done in early 60's after Don changed to all white. Other clubs later copied.

At least within the lifetime of their entrepreneur and former CEO Dietrich Mateschitz, you couldn't imagine Red Bull NOT to entirely rebrand a club into a Red Bull franchise. It was all or nothing for them when they started looking for a place in German football. A rebrand, thus adjusting the name and the colours to Red Bull, was one of their most important claims. So they immediately failed to take over at 1860 Munich, Fortuna Düsseldorf and even FC St. Pauli when all of these three clubs were struggling on the pitch and financially about 20 years ago when Red Bull was about to make an offer to them. But the latter clubs all have huge fan bases which are loyal to their club even in the 3rd or 4th tier, and the authorities of these clubs knew they would have been into big trouble by making a deal with Red Bull, thus giving them the okay to extinguish the club and replacing it by the marketing department of a company with a prospect of top-flight and even European football.
It hasn't been a problem for Red Bull to bypass the rules of the German FA (DFB) by giving the club a name called 'RasenBallsport' which literally means something like 'turf ball sports' in German and sounds ridiculous in both languages because it was all about the initials to represent Red Bull, obviously. In Austria, Red Bull openly (but honestly, at least) officially stated this would have been a completely new club and people wearing the traditional colours of Austria Salzburg, violet and white, eventually were even banned from the new stadium! The protests were enormous and Austria Salzburg fans founded a phoenix club which made it up to the 3rd and temporarily even into the 2nd tier of Austrian football.
In Leipzig, Red Bull took over at a 5th tier side called SSV Markranstädt which was an amateur club from the more rural outskirts of Leipzig and basically had no fans. Leipzig's two traditional clubs Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Chemie Leipzig are playing in the 4th tier and as both of them are phoenix clubs proudly having famous predecessors from the DDR-Oberliga (the top flight of former Eastern Germany), so it was off the carts to get one of these two absorbed. But imagine this would be happening in Leeds. I really used to loathe the company when they got into football, but in today's football you have to ask yourself if you'd really prefer a cruel regime from the middle east or some shady businessmen or billionaires from the US or East Asia as a club's owners, especially in the Premier League.
Apart from football, I even never liked the brand itself because it's 'the iPhone of the energy drinks', so to say. I don't want to support an insane profit margin which is probably about more than ten times higher than the costs of the actual production, distribution and sale of one small single can if you take a look at the selling prices of Red Bull. It almost seems like a cult to me just like Apple when it comes to phones. But I eventually got to the point when I was thinking that wearing clothes by Nike, Adidas, drinking Coca-Cola or smoking Marlboro cigarettes is not any different in that regard, just a common strategy to make the brand more precious when it's becoming succeessful. But at least, the latter never took over at a European football club, rebranding, thus extinguishing it...
But hopefully, they have changed their agenda when it comes to football now after Dietrich Mateschitz passed away as Leeds United is one of my favourite clubs in England. And they haven't by far bought a majority of the club now, it's really just one small piece of a huge cake. But who knows what is about to come soon and what long-term plans Red Bull could have in mind in case Leeds will be back in the Premier League, something everybody's expecting very soon? Leeds is the most successful English side I still really like as I lost a lot of my interest in the Premier League, especially at the top of the table and I don't want Leeds to be part of that.
This may sound weird as most fans are eager for success or even silverware for the clubs they like, but I just don't want LUFC to become part of today's bling-bling and anarcho-capitalist world of football in Europe. The spirit of this unique club and their loyal fans could more or less getting wiped away with the very big money and last but not least, I don't want Elland Road to be rebuilt into a 'modern' stadium. We've all seen what sadly happened to the atmosphere at home matches of clubs such as ManCity, Arsenal or West Ham compared to where they played before, even without changing their name and their colours, haven't we? Sorry for this wall of text and MOT from Germany

They often have control over club shops - for example Castore ran Newcastle’s club shop until recently 😊 not the case with every club
@@RysFootyParadise granted control over literal inshore merchandising eg their products take front and centre. But nothing deeper unless full image rights have changed hands as they’re just a manufacturer who take 85% of the money for every shirt sold
