    I am half bengali and been hearing sylheti my whole life, I only know basic terms and feel like I could learn easily, since I'm familiar with the language. It's about time I start!

      Wow! I love the fact that you are learning Siloti. But, I'm sad too because the content creator isn't posting new videos. However, I've a good news for you. I've found another channel on UA-cam that promotes Siloti language.

    Just came across your videos, there are barely any tutorials on UA-cam on how to learn Sylheti Bangla, so I'm very glad you're making these videos! I was wondering if you could cover more advanced things, or rather make a video of how people can become more fluent in Sylheti. I'm a Sylheti Bengali girl living in the UK, but my Bengali is not very good, I seem to still speak with my English accent so it doesn't sound right. As I am a lot older now, I find it embarrassing to speak with elders because of how awful my Bengali is, and want to learn to be more fluent.

      Hope you take this is in good heart as a native Sylheti speaker myself I also struggled with this concept is Sylheti a language or simply a dialect of Bengali? According to most linguists they consider Sylheti and Bengali not mutually intelligible therefore Sylheti is considered a separate language however politically it’s considered a dialect.

      ꠀꠝꠤ ꠍꠤꠟꠐꠤ ꠚꠥꠀ is Sylheti and shuddo bangla a seperate language. Which is the proper language of the two.

      Modern linguists today consider Sylheti a separate language from Bangla the reason being Sylheti language has its own linguistic properties such as linguistic tones, its own distinct lexicons, and its own distinct alphabet. A Sylheti speaker most likely understand a Bengali speaker however the opposite is not always true therefore they are considered separate languages. Also the term shuddo Bangla is misnomer as Bengali language has dialects of its own. I don’t think any language can be considered proper all languages evolve and adapt over time Bengali spoken two hundred years ago isn’t the same Bengali spoken today in fact Bengali language was standardised very recently as 1920’s and it was done under the British jurisdiction to make Bengali the sole language of the region. In fact the term “Bengali” meant anyone who resides in the Bengal region they may not even be ethically Bengali or spoke Bengali as a first language.

      Sylhoti is not Bangla but they have similarities. There are more than 50% of differences between both languages. Bangla came from Sylhoti. So Sylhoti language is the mother of Bangla language. Bangla language have more Sanskrit word and Sylhoti language have less Sanskrit word. More than 60% of words in Sylhoti language is Turkish, Arabic, and Persian. Don't make this mistake again bro.

      Sylhoti is not a dialect of Bengali. Sylhoti is a separated independent language. A lot of people’s misconceptions is Sylhoti is part of Bengali language but It's not. It has nothing to do with Bengali.

    It should be noted there are 3 main dialects of the Sylheti language. Sadar Siloti (spoken in central Sylhet District), Western Siloti (also called Habiganj-Sunamganj Siloti), and Siloti Cachari (spoken in Cachar District of Assam). The Siloti language exists as a dialect continuum that co-exists with other tonal tribal languages such as Kokborok, Reang and Rabha. This is why the tones of each dialect may differ. Since you are using "ami/amar" I assume you are speaking Sadar Silhoti. In Assam, Siloti Cachari uses "moi/mur" similar to Assamese.

You should start speaking lot of Sylheti at home with your family members instead of English also watch lot of Sylheti natok on UA-cam that helps you improve your Sylheti also you can try to write down words so it helps you understand them better i used to do that, it helps you remember them when you forget.

    Awesome video.
    I've got to ask though. Could you perhaps make a series teaching English to Sylheti speakers?
    In a lot of Western countries, there are a lot of elderly Sylheti speaking immigrants who never learned English, but there's almost no resources for them to learn the language that will help them immensely.

    • @SheLearnsChannel
      @SheLearnsChannel  3 роки тому +1

      I appreciate your comment. I've actually made a couple of English videos for sylheti immigrants before, you should be able to find them on my channel. For me, teaching English isn't the same experience as teaching another language. That's why I stopped making english learning videos bc I feel like I've covered the absolute necessary parts already, and I don't want to do more atm.

    The word for ★Age★ is not "Boiosh".
    The real word for age in Sylhoti language is "Umar" Just like in Hindi and Urdu. Boiosh is Bangla. People been using a lots of Bangla word in Sylhoti language cuz Bengali language have a lot of influence in Sylhoti language. It's became very Conventional cuz when people go to school in Bangladesh they have to learn Bangla too. It's kind of mix language influence. The proper word for age is ★Umar★

Not all Sylhoti people speak proper Sylhoti language cuz everyone living in Bangladesh has go to Bengali medium School. That's why Bengali words has a lot of influence on Sylhoti language.
