- A non Bengali, English speaking American started speaking perfect Sylheti to me. He lived in Sylhet many years and learned this dialect perfectly. I don't know Sylheti dialect, but knew his accents were perfect. This gentleman loves Bangladeshi culture, Bangladeshi people and always tries to attend Pohela Boishak rallies like this one.

Bengalis has been trying to kill Sylhoti language for more than 50 years and insulting Sylhoti language by calling It a dialect of Bangla. Sylhoti scripts are 2 thousand years old and Bangla is only 5 hundred years old. Sylhoti is a tonal language and Bangla is a non tonal language. Bangla has nothing to do with Sylhoti.
Due to the dominant political reason of Bangladesh, Bengali speakers don’t want to recognize Sylhoti as a different language. But we Sylhoti people know Sylhoti is not a dialect of Bengali cuz when a dialect can developed It's own writing system and grammar It's no longer a dialect. It becomes a separated independent language. Sylhoti language even has It's own grammar and vocabulary too and It's not even a dialect of Bangla. Sylhoti language has nothing to do with Bengali language. Sylhoti language has all kinds of qualifications and features be a separated independent language.

সিলটের প্রাচীণ নাম ছিলো (শ্রী হট্ট) মানে (ঐশ্বর্যের হাট) বা সৌন্দর্যের হাট। তখন সিলট ছিল ভারতের আসাম রাজ্যের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ। এই জন্য আসামিদের সাথে সিলটীদের ভাষার এবং সংস্কৃতির অনেক মিল আছে। সিলটীরা মুসলমান হওয়ায় ১৯৪৭ সালে সিলটীদের গনভোটের মাধ্যমে আসাম রাজ্য থেকে আলাদা হয়ে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের অংশ হয়ে যায়। পরে ১৯৭১ সালে পাকিস্তানের সাথে যুদ্ধ করে বাংলাদেশ সিলট কে সাথে নিয়ে স্বাধীনতা লাভ করে। এভাবে বাংলাদেশ সিলট কে জয় করে বাংলাদেশের অংশ বানিয়ে নেয়। আসাম এবং মেঘালয়ের অধিকাংশ মানুষ সিলটী ভাষায় কথা বলেন এবং সিলটী নাগরী লিপিতে লিখেন। দেশ ভাগের পর নতুন নাম দেওয়া হয় সিলট। যাকে ঢাকাইয়ারা বানিয়ে বইয়ে নাম দিয়েছে *সিলেট*। আসল নাম হলো (সিলট)। সিলট কে ঐশ্বর্যের হাট বলার কারণ ছিল ইরান, ইরাক, ইয়ামান, তুর্কি, আরবদেশের মতো অনেক দেশ থেকে বিদেশীরা সিলটে এসে ব্যাবসা বাণিজ্য এবং ইসলাম ধর্ম প্রচার করতেন। সিলটিদের কারো পূর্ব পুরুষরা আসল বাংলাদেশি ছিলেন না। সিলটীদের পূর্ব পুরুষরাই ঐসব দেশের বিদেশিরা যারা সিলটে বানিজ্য করতে এসে জায়গা কিনে থাকা শুরু করে দিয়েছিলেন। আমার নানুর মুখ থেকে শোনেছি আমার পূর্ব পুরুষরা ২০০ বছর আগে (ইরাকের রাজধানী) বাগদাদ থেকে এসেছিলেন জাহাজ দিয়ে বাংলাদেশে বানিজ্য করার জন্য। সিলটী ভাষায় ৫০ ভাগ শব্দ আছে যা হলো ফারসি, তুর্কিস এবং আরবি। বাকি ৫০ ভাগ সংস্কৃত শব্দ থেকে আবিষ্কার হয়েছিল। সিলটী ভাষা ৯০০ বছরের ও পুরনো প্রাচীণ একটি ভাষা। সিলটী নাগরী লিপি হলো সিলটী বর্ণমালা যা বাংলা বর্ণমালা থেকে অনেক আলাদা। সিলটী ভাষা বলা এবং লিখার অক্ষর গুলো বাংলা থেকে পুরোই আলাদা। সিলটী ভাষা বাংলা নয়, বা বাংলার থেকে উৎপত্তি হওয়া কোন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা নয় বা বাংলার উপভাষা নয়। সিলটী ভাষা নিজেই একটি ভাষা। সিলটী ভাষা থেকে বাংলা ভাষার জন্ম হয়েছে। সিলট অঞ্চলের ইতিহাস অনেক প্রাচীণ। সিলটের ইতিহাস আমাদের সবার জানা জরুরী কিন্তু আমাদের দুর্ভাগ্য যে বাংলাদেশে বিদ্যালয়ে আমাদেরকে এসব শিখানো হয় না। সব বাংলাদেশিদের উচিৎ সিলটের মতো একটি প্রাচীণ, ধনী, ঐতিহাসিক, সমৃদ্ধশালী, ঐশ্বর্যীক, পবিত্র এবং সুন্দর অঞ্চল কে নিয়ে বুক ফুলিয়ে গর্ব করা। সিলট আমাদের সবার গর্ব। আমি সিলটী হিসেবে নিজেকে গর্বিত মনে করি।

Bengalis has been trying to kill Sylhoti language for more than 50 years and insulting Sylhoti language by calling It a dialect of Bangla. Sylhoti scripts are 2 thousand years old and Bangla is only 5 hundred years old. Sylhoti is a tonal language and Bangla is a non tonal language. Bangla has nothing to do with Sylhoti.
Due to the dominant political reason of Bangladesh, Bengali speakers don’t want to recognize Sylhoti as a different language. Sylheti and Bengali are considered two different languages though they share around 70% similar lexicons Sylheti originally had its own script not too long ago there is lot off mutual unintelligibly between Bangla and Sylheti therefore its not correct to say its a dialect of Bengali it’s like comparing Hindi and Urdu or Tamil and Malayalam they share similarities but are different languages in their own right Sylheti and Bengali have similar roots but different languages in contrast

Magdhi prakrit branched to many offshoots major ones are Odia, Bihari languages (which include Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili etc.) and Bengali-Assamese Languages(Which include Bengali, Assamese, Chakma, Sylheti, Rohingya etc.). The three main magdhi offshoots are these which further branch again to form other languages. Assamese is not a different magdhi family rather falls in Bangali-Assamese family. Sylheti, as you were saying is infact a different language than Promit Bengali. And there's no language called Sylheti nagri, rather nagri is just the name of the written script of Sylheti language.

সিলটী ভাষা বাংলা ভাষার কোন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা নয় বা সিলটীরা বাঙালী জাতী নয়। তার সব চেয়ে বড় প্রমাণ হলো সিলটী ভাষা লিখার জন্য যে বর্ণমালা ব্যবহার করা হয় তার সাথে বাংলা বর্ণমালার কোন মিল নেই। যদি সিলটী ভাষা বাংলার আঞ্চলিক ভাষা হতো তাহলে একটি আঞ্চলিক ভাষা লিখার জন্য শত শত বছর সেই ভাষা কে নিয়ে চর্চা এবং গবেষণা করে আলাদা বর্ণমালা তৈরী করার করার কোন প্রয়োজন ছিলো না। যেহেতু বাংলা ভাষা এবং বাংলা বর্ণমালা সেখানে আগে থেকেই ছিলো। সিলটী ভাষা বাংলার কোন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা হলে নিশ্চয়ই সিলটীরা সেটা জানতেন আর শুধু শুধু সিলটী ভাষার মতো একটি আঞ্চলিক ভাষার জন্য অকারণে বর্ণমালা তৈরী করে সময় নষ্ট করতেন না। সিলটী ভাষার ব্যাকরণ, বর্ণমালা এবং শব্দ ভান্ডার সব কিছু বাংলা ভাষার চেয়ে আলাদা। সিলটী ব্যাকরণের সাথে হিন্দি ব্যাকরণের অনেক মিল লক্ষ করা যায়। বাংলা ভাষা থেকে সিলটী ভাষার জন্ম হয়েছে এমন কোন তথ্য আজ পর্যন্ত সিলটী ভাষার কোন পুরোনো পুঁথি বা পান্জিতে লিখিত প্রমাণ পাওয়া যায় নি। বরং সিলটী অনেক পুরোনো পুঁথি পাওয়া গেছে যেখানে স্পষ্ট লিখা আছে সিলটী ভাষার জন্ম হয়েছে প্রাকৃত ভাষা থেকে এবং সিলটী বর্ণমালা গুলো কে বিহার অঞ্চলের কাইথি লিপি থেকে অনুকরণ করে সৃষ্টি করা হয়েছিল। এতেই প্রমাণ হয় সিলটী ভাষার সাথে বাংলা ভাষার কোন সম্পর্ক ছিলো না বা নেই। অনেক পুরোনো পুঁথি পাওয়া গেছে যেখানে সিলটী নাগরী লিপি এবং আসামী লিপি দিয়ে বাংলা লিখা হয়েছে কারণ তখনও বাংলা ভাষার জন্য বাংলা বর্ণমালা সৃষ্টি করা হয় নি! এতেই প্রমাণ হয় সিলটী ভাষা বাংলা ভাষার চেয়ে অনেক প্রাচীণ একটি ভাষা। সিলটী ভাষায় পুরোনো কিছু পুঁথিতে তারিখ লিখা আছে যা ২ হাজার বছর আগে লিখা হয়েছিলো। গবেষণা করে জানা গেছে পুঁথি গুলো ২ হাজার বছর আগে লিখা হয়েছিল। বাংলা ভাষার বয়স ১ হাজার ৩০০ বছর। সিলটী ভাষার বয়স ২ হাজার বছর। এতেই প্রমাণ হয় সিলটী ভাষার সাথে বাংলা ভাষার কোন সম্পর্ক ছিলো না আর সিলটীরা বাঙালী না। সিলটীরা হলো সিলটী জাতী।
চাটগাঁইয়া,নুয়াখাইল্লা,রংপুরিয়া,রাজবংশী আরো অন্যান্য আঞ্চলিক ভাষা লিখার জন্য কোন আলাদা বর্ণমালা নেই কারণ এই সব গুলোর জন্ম বাংলা ভাষা থেকে।

*সিলটীদের মাতৃভাষা বাংলা নয়। সিলটীদের মাতৃভাষা হলো সিলটী ভাষা আর লিখার জন্য যে লিখিত রূপে বর্ণমালা বা অক্ষর গুলোর ব্যাবহার করা হয় তার নাম সিলটী নাগরী লিপি।
সিলটের প্রাচীণ নাম ছিলো (শ্রী হট্ট) মানে (ঐশ্বর্যের হাট) বা সৌন্দর্যের হাট। তখন সিলট ছিল ভারতের আসাম রাজ্যের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ। এই জন্য আসামিদের সাথে সিলটীদের ভাষার এবং সংস্কৃতির অনেক মিল আছে। সিলটীরা মুসলমান হওয়ায় ১৯৪৭ সালে সিলটীদের গনভোটের মাধ্যমে আসাম রাজ্য থেকে আলাদা হয়ে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের অংশ হয়ে যায়। পরে ১৯৭১ সালে পাকিস্তানের সাথে যুদ্ধ করে বাংলাদেশ সিলট কে সাথে নিয়ে স্বাধীনতা লাভ করে। এভাবে বাংলাদেশ সিলট কে জয় করে বাংলাদেশের অংশ বানিয়ে নেয়। আসাম এবং মেঘালয়ের অধিকাংশ মানুষ সিলটী ভাষায় কথা বলেন এবং সিলটী নাগরী লিপিতে লিখেন। দেশ ভাগের পর নতুন নাম দেওয়া হয় সিলট। যাকে ঢাকাইয়ারা বানিয়ে বইয়ে নাম দিয়েছে *সিলেট*। আসল নাম হলো (সিলট)। সিলট কে ঐশ্বর্যের হাট বলার কারণ ছিল ইরান, ইরাক, ইয়ামান, তুর্কি, আরবদেশের মতো অনেক দেশ থেকে বিদেশীরা সিলটে এসে ব্যাবসা বাণিজ্য এবং ইসলাম ধর্ম প্রচার করতেন। সিলটিদের কারো পূর্ব পুরুষরা আসল বাংলাদেশি ছিলেন না। সিলটীদের পূর্ব পুরুষরাই ঐসব দেশের বিদেশিরা যারা সিলটে বানিজ্য করতে এসে জায়গা কিনে থাকা শুরু করে দিয়েছিলেন। আমার নানুর মুখ থেকে শোনেছি আমার পূর্ব পুরুষ ২০০ বছর আগে (ইরাকের রাজধানী) বাগদাদ থেকে এসেছিলেন জাহাজ দিয়ে বাংলাদেশে বানিজ্য করার জন্য। সিলটী ভাষায় ৫০% ভাগ শব্দ আছে যা হলো ফারসি, তুর্কিস এবং আরবি। বাকি ৫০% ভাগ সংস্কৃত শব্দ থেকে আবিষ্কার হয়েছিল। সিলটী ভাষা ২০০০ বছরের ও পুরনো প্রাচীণ একটি ভাষা। সিলটী নাগরী লিপি হলো সিলটী বর্ণমালা যা বাংলা বর্ণমালা থেকে অনেক আলাদা। সিলটী ভাষা বলা এবং লিখার অক্ষর গুলো বাংলা থেকে পুরোই আলাদা। সিলটী ভাষা বাংলা নয়, বা বাংলার থেকে উৎপত্তি হওয়া কোন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা নয় বা বাংলার উপভাষা নয়। সিলটী ভাষা নিজেই একটি ভাষা। সিলটী ভাষা থেকে বাংলা ভাষার জন্ম হয়েছে। সিলট অঞ্চলের ইতিহাস অনেক প্রাচীণ। সিলটের ইতিহাস আমাদের সবার জানা জরুরী কিন্তু আমাদের দুর্ভাগ্য যে বাংলাদেশে বিদ্যালয়ে আমাদেরকে এসব শিখানো হয় না। সব বাংলাদেশিদের উচিৎ সিলটের মতো একটি প্রাচীণ, ধনী, ঐতিহাসিক, সমৃদ্ধশালী, ঐশ্বর্যীক, পবিত্র এবং সুন্দর অঞ্চল কে নিয়ে বুক ফুলিয়ে গর্ব করা। সিলট আমাদের সবার গর্ব। আমি সিলটী হিসেবে নিজেকে গর্বিত মনে করি।*

@@sahelislam9483 আপনি কি জানেন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা বা বাংলার উপভাষা কাকে বলে? আঞ্চলিক ভাষা মানে কথ্য ভাষা বা একই ভাষা থেকে সৃষ্টি হওয়া কথ্য ভাষা যার লিখিত রূপে কোন বর্ণমালা বা অক্ষর নেই। যে ভাষার লিখিত কোন রূপ নেই তাকেই আঞ্চলিক ভাষা বলে। তাদের মধ্যে যেমনঃ চাটগাঁইয়া, বরিশাইল্লা, রংপুরিয়া, কুমিল্লা, নুয়াখাইল্লা আরো অনেক আঞ্চলিক ভাষা রয়েছে। সিলটী ভাষার নিজস্ব বর্ণমালা আছে যার নাম সিলটী নাগরী লিপি। এই লিপি গুলো দিয়ে সিলটী ভাষা লিখা হয়। সিলটী নাগরী লিপি বাংলা অক্ষর থেকে পুরোই আলাদা। এতে প্রমাণ হলো সিলটী ভাষা কোন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা নয় বা বাংলার থেকে সৃষ্টি হওয়া কোন উপভাষা নয় বা কোন কথ্য ভাষা নয়। সিলটী ভাষা শুধু সিলটে না ভাতরের অনেক জায়গায় সিলটী নাগরী লিপি এবং ভাষার ব্যাবহার রয়েছে যেমনঃ মেঘালয়া রাজ্য, আসাম রাজ্য, ত্রিপুরা রাজ্য, নাগালেন্ড। ভারত উপমহাদেশের সব ভাষার মা এবং প্রথম ভাষা হলো সংস্কৃত ভাষা। সংস্কৃত ভাষা থেকে কালের বিবর্তনে সব ভাষার জন্ম হয়েছে। প্রথমে সংস্কৃত ভাষা থেকে আসে প্রকৃত ভাষা, তার পর মাগধী প্রকৃত ভাষা, তার পর আস্তে আস্তে মৈথিলী ভাষার সৃষ্টি হয়। এর পর আসে সিলটী নাগরী ভাষা। মৈথিলী ভাষার সাথে সিলটী ভাষার এবং নাগরী লিপির অনেক মিল পাওয়া যায়। যা বাংলার সাথে নেই। সিলটী ভাষায় অনেক শব্দ আছে যেসব শব্দ মৈথিলী ভাষার সাথে হুবুহু মিলে। কালের বিবর্তনে এক ভাষা থেকে আরেক ভাষার সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। বাংলা ভাষার বয়স মাত্র ৫০০ বছর আর সিলটী নাগরী ভাষার বয়স ৯০০ বছর। ৫০০ বছর আগে ভতর উপমহাদেশে বাংলার কোন চর্চা হতো না। ভারতের আসাম রাজ্যে, মেঘালয়া রাজ্যে এবং নেপাল সহো আরো অনেক জায়গায় প্রাচীণ নাগরী লিপির পুথি এবং পান্জি পাওয়া গেছে। গবেষণা করে জানা গেছে এসব পুঁথি ৯০০ বছরেরও পুরোনো। যদি বাংলা ভাষার বয়স হয় ৫০০ বছর আর সিলটী ভাষা মেনে নিলাম বাংলা ভাষা থেকে সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। তাহলে মৈথিলী ভাষা থেকে বিরর্তনের মাঝখানের যে ৪০০ বছর মানুষ কি জ্ঞান চর্চা করেনি, নাকি ৪০০ বছর পর হঠাৎ মানুষ বাংলা ভাষায় কথা বলা শুরু করে দেয়? শ্রদ্ধেয় শাহজালাল সিলটে আগমনের আগে ও পরে যতো মধ্য প্রাচ্যের মুসলমান লোকরা বাংলাদেশে ইসলাম প্রচার করার জন্য এসেছিলেন তাদের সবাই আরবি ভাষী ছিলেন। তাদের সাথে থাকা অনেকেই তখন নাগরী ভাষার চর্চা করেছিলেন। শাহজালাল ৭০০ বছর আগে সিলটে এসেছিলেন। উনার আগমনের আগে বেশিরভাগ মানুষ হিন্দু ছিল। পরে ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণ করে মুসলমান হয়ে যায়। বাংলা ভাষা কে সহজ এবং আধুনিকায়ন করার জন্য সিলটী নাগরী লিপি কে অনুকরণ করে বাংলা বর্ণমালা সৃষ্টি করা হয়েছিল। সিলটীদের পূর্ব পুরুষরা মধ্য প্রাচ্যের বা ইউরোপের ছিলেন বলতে সবাইকে বুঝায় না। পূর্ব পুরুষ বলতে আমি পুরুষদের কথা বুঝাতে চেয়েছিলাম। সিলট ছিল অটাল সম্পদের উৎস আর বিদেশিরা সাগর পথে জাহাজ দিয়ে এসে নদী পথে সিলটে প্রবেশ করতেন এবং তারা স্থানীয় সিলটীদের সাথে বিভিন্ন ব্যাবসা করতেন। বিদেশিরা স্থানীয় আদিবাসী সিলটী ইসলাম ধর্ম গ্রহণ করা মহিলাদের বিয়ে করে বাংলাদেশে স্থায়ী ভাবে বসবাস করা শুরু করতেন। প্রত্যেক সিলটীদের পূর্ব পুরুষের মধ্যে বাবা ছিল বিদেশি এবং মা ছিল সিলটী স্থানীয় আদিবাসী। সিলটী মুসলমানদের পূর্ব পুরুষ সবাই মুসলমান ছিল না। স্থানীয় সিলটী আদিবাসী সবাই হিন্দু ছিলো। সিলটী ভাষা পৃথিবীর ১০০ টি প্রাচীণ ভাষার মধ্যে একটি।

Due to the dominant political reason of Bangladesh, Bengali speakers don’t want to recognize Sylhoti as a different language. Let’s get this straight Sylheti is a separate language linguistically its more closer to Assamese than Bangali most people assume it’s a dialect of Bengali however its not as simple as it seems the main factor can be attributed to the rise of Bengali nationalism in Bangladesh the corrupt government down graded our language to a regional dialect back in 1971 and strictly forbid the usage of Syloti Nagri script. It’s now considered politically incorrect to call Sylheti a language in Bangladesh. Sylheti is actually proven to be older than Bengali there are references of Sylheti language in Hindu Ramayanas which is around 2000 years old. Linguists today do not consider Sylheti to be a dialect of Bengali but a separate language UNESCO recognises Sylheti as a language. Sylheti shares around 70% lexicons with Bengali however Sylheti differs on many points the phonology, fricatives, morphology are different from Bengali Sylheti is highly tonal language unlike Bengali most Indo Aryan languages are not known for their tones. Its agreed that most Bengali speaker may not fully understand Sylheti however most Sylheti speakers understand Bengali due to Bangla being taught at all levels in Bangladesh. This video is a great way to promote Sylheti language for the masses also I would encourage everyone to learn Sylheti it’s a wonderful language with its own script.

বাংলার সাথে ১০০% এর মধ্যে ৪০% মিল আছে কিন্তু ৬০% অমিল রয়েছে। সিলটী ভাষায় ৫০% শব্দ ফার্সি,তুর্কিস,আরবি আর বাকি ৫০% শব্দ সংস্কৃত শব্দ থেকে এসেছে।
সিলট বিভাগে ৪ টি জেলা। যেমনঃ সুনামগঞ্জ, সিলট, হবিগঞ্জ এবং মৌলভীবাজার। আমার জন্মস্থান সুনামগঞ্জ। যেখানে বিদ্যাময়ীর দাসের জন্মস্থান। আমরা সুনামগঞ্জ জেলায় যেভাবে কথা বলি (সিলট) জেলার সবাই ঠিক একই ভাবে কথা বলেন। কিছু কিছু মানুষ যারা নিজেকে বেশি Smart মনে করেন তারা সিলটি ভাষার সাথে ২/১ টি বাংলা, হিন্দি এবং ইংরেজি শব্দ মিশিয়ে কথা বলেন। এই ৪ জেলার সব স্থানীয় মানুষ কে সিলটি জাতি বলা হয়, কারণ ৪ জেলার প্রত্যেকের মাতৃভাষা সিলটি। এই ৪ জেলা ১৯৪৭ সালের আগেও আসাম রাজ্যের(কামরুপা রাজ্যের) অংশ ছিল। ১৯৪৭ সালের পর সিলটি জাতিরা গনো ভোটের মাধ্যমে সিলট বিভাগ কে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের(পূর্ব বাংলাদেশ) অংশে নিয়ে আসে। ১৯৭১ সালের পর সিলট বিভাগ রাষ্ট্রিয় ভাবে বাংলাদেশের অংশে আসে। পরে আস্তে আস্তে সবাই বাংলা বিদ্যালয়ে গিয়ে বাংলা ভাষা শিখতে থাকে। যারা বলে সিলট বিভাগের ৪ জেলায় বিভিন্ন ভাষায় কথা বলে, প্রথমতঃ তারা বাঙালি আর না হয় সিলটি ভাষা সম্পর্কে তাদের কোন জ্ঞান নেই। সিলট বিভাগের ৪ টি জেলায় একই সিলটি ভাষায় কথা বলা হয়। সিলটি ভাষা এক প্রকার। কিন্তু জেলা ভেদে অনেক সমার্থক শব্দের প্রচলন রয়েছে। যেমনঃ সুনামগঞ্জ জেলায় চুলা কে ডাকা হয় (উন্দাল) আর মৌলভীবাজার জেলায় চুলা কে ডাকা হয় (ফাখাল)। কিন্তু আবার এই ২ শব্দ, ৪ জেলায়ই ব্যবহার হয়। এটা হলো যার যার ব্যক্তিগত ব্যাপার। সিলটি ভাষার শব্দ ভান্ডার অনেক বড়। ১টি শব্দের ১০ টি পর্যন্ত সমার্থক শব্দ রয়েছে। যাদের অর্থ একই। বাংলা ভাষার মতো সিলটি ভাষায় কোন আঞ্চলিক ভাষা নেই।
