one of the GOATs as far as contemporary classical composition goes
Thank you, Neil!
The best
Wonderful piece! I hear some Led Zeppelin influences in there...am I crazy?
Wow, what a mindblowing piece. This guy is a first rate composer! At 3:15 it sounds just like something Pat Metheny plays...I wonder if that is intentional or just a coincidence.
I've heard John Williams and several other virtuoso artists play Sunburst. But to my ears, no one comes even close to the beauty of Andrew York playing his own composition.
Thank you very much for your beautiful comment, Flash Gordon!
I think this is something we often miss in classical music - people paying their own original works. It is something that brings an added element of personal touch to the interpretation, and more musical freedom as there is less of a tradition behind how that piece should be played. Lizt, Bach, Giuliani, Mozart, and many more, they all did this too. Why should classical musicians not continue to do so?
Out of this world!
Intro ends at 2:11 if anyone wants to go straight to the A section.
Heard this song back in school and just remembered it today at the end of college. Couldn't for the life of me remember the name and searched through my chats because I knew I'd recommended it to my friends back then. This piece still fills me up with pure joy and I think it's one of the supreme achievements of acoustic guitar. Bravo!
Thank you very much, Nikunj. I'm very happy to hear that you have an emotional connection to my music.
" Very Special Sounds and Componing on Great Approccic in This Style Playing Guitar ". .. So' Good ... ☺😊😀/💙💙💙/👍👌👏👋
I found this song on spotify I don't even know how but I love it!
Why does this man have 5.6k subscribers instead of at least ten times more? He might be the best composer and guitar player alive today. Seriously, talent like this is not something common.
Very nice - obviously at 3.17 this turns for a few bars into the very famous Phase Dance - Pat Metheny's signature tune since 1977. Nice to see great guitarists paying tribute to other great guitarists!
My brother played this at his college graduation at university of Tennessee (Martin) in the late 90’s… He is an adjunct professor there now still teaching guitar. No doubt you were an inspiration in his glide path. And, I damn sure enjoy listening to you when I need to close my eyes and just hit that higher plane. This sir, is absolutely timeless.
Thank you very much for your beautiful message, Paul.
Three years ago I spent days practising this piece, though I could never achieve even half of Maestro York's level. Nevertheless, playing the piece was an elating and rewarding experience, no less so than listening to it.
I'm very happy to hear that you had and have a good time with Sunburst. Thank you very much!
Dear mr York, Andrew,
Your playing went through my soul, one can only be silent during and afterwards this beautifull performance, bravo!
the recorded version on the song (original) starts at 2:13 btw, so if you only want to listen to the real piece go there
It's amazing how he goes from the calmness of 1:45 to breaking the laws of physics by playing the fast movements of 3:47
Andrew York is the best! So innovative with his composition.
Enhorabuena Andrew.
Thank you very much, Carulli. I hope your hand heals soon!
Andrew, this is without a doubt the best thing I've ever heard anyone play on a guitar.
What an amazing piece of work. This song sounds equally incredible but so different on steel strings.
This piece means a lot to me. Been playing it for 20 years, and it never gets redundant or less challenging. Thanks for writing it, Mr. York.
Thank you very much, Travis. Glad you like it!
What an astonishing piece of art!
This song used to be my favorite song when I played classical guitar. What a nostalgia..
Thank you very much for your beautiful comment, Radya!
A modern guitar masterpiece, Im very happy that you've added to our repertoire with this brilliant piece
amazing pieces who can`t the others composer imaging...
This is fabulous dear Andrew ! Technique out of the ordinary, and inspiration at its highest level. I have often listened to your fabulous composition, but I always discover in your musical phrases inventive gems. How can we put 106 dislikes on such a music ?👿
You are a lighthouse of the guitar, and I, in my little nut shell of amateur musician, am happy to guide my boat in this so beautiful artistic light.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Musical greetings,
Phil 🎵👍
Thank you very much for your beautiful message, Philippe. Very much appreciated!
Just relearned this after learning it in sophomore year of highschool (very sloppily) playing it through again felt like a warm hug from an old friend.
Logan, glad you had a good time rediscovering Sunburst.
fantastic
Very good video editing.
A genious!
Hi Andrew. Thank you so much for writing Sunburst. It is my favorite piece to play on an acoustic guitar. It makes me happy :)
My thanks to you for your kine message, Anime!

Thank you very much, Luis. I'm glad you still like it.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏😊😊
I love this.
Nice to hear the composer's version! (Not widely known that Christopher Parkening wrote the musical intro)
Wow! I'm speechless.
Grazie MR. YORK! La tua musica fa volare!
My nephew Michael Gullo played it today for his concert with Pepperdine n Nailed It!!;))
Happy to hear that. Congratulations to Michael!
Lol...Godfather :)
I've had the lucky to learn this piece when I was in 8th grade, in middle school and still now after many years I'm happy to play it sometimes to bring back memories and sensations! Thanks a lot for your work
Thanks for playing my music!
Goddamn incredible

Amazing !
This is the best version i ever seen!
Thank you very much!
Well it is the original!
As a bassoonist, this makes me smile so very much. Thank you Andrew York!
Wow!
Must cover this. It's on my list!
wow
bravo, amazing.
As a jazz fan, I have to admit progression lifted from Pat Metheny's 'Phase Dance' really strikes a warm chord in me ;-)
After listening to some of Andrew's stunning pensive pieces recently, it's good to hear this beautiful joyful piece again! Also, is my ear playing tricks, or does the announcer sound like master flatpicker Dan Crary?
Thank you so much, Frank. And yes, it is Dan Crary.
His volume/dynamics is so flawless
I’m struggling to learn the guitar, so I am amazed at the technique. But, how do you learn to remember the entire piece?
You have to visualize every shape your fingers make and go through it in your mind until you know the piece by heart.
Once you’ve played and practiced the piece for so long, it just becomes second nature, like memorizing the words to your favorite song.
This piece never ceases to elate and inspire me.
Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Really fantastic as always. Oof. That ending.
Thank you very much, Guy!
beautiful piece :)
One of the most beautiful passages of music played on guitar I have ever heard. I feel so good inside when I hear this song.
Love it - Great Performance - he makes a tuning adjustment at just after 3:30 - while playing - he must have noticed in earlier and thought ahead / waited for the moment to make the adjustment - not easy - especially while on camera like this - wow! Anyway - one of my favorites performances of this song - he seems pretty happy too at the end! cool!
Is there anywhere where I could find the sheet music for this piece, specifically the introduction?
Andrew York is the Master of guitar!!!
Thank you very much, Johann!
@@AndrewYorkguitar your welcome!
I don't know the right term -- but having listened to Andrew's "Home" tight before this, isn't the theme (and variations) in the beginning of this piece the same as the primary theme in "Home"?
Similar contour interestingly, but extremely different in character and rhythm.
The brief transition at 0:42 is a bit "home" like
Just wow am in awe
One of my Favourite pieces !
Thank you very much, Perslash!
Absolutely brilliant!
I learned this badger a while back, I don’t think I’ve got it in the locker anymore but Andrew makes it look effortless! I’m gonna give it a go!
3:48 blows my mind
Thank you very much!
Sunburst brings classical guitar to the new world!
Thank you very much, Small Leaf!
원곡을 듣게 되니 영광입니다.
Great playing, love your skills.
Thanks a lot, Michael!
Andy told an interesting story about the names of this piece. He composed Sunburst and that was the original name.....The famous guitarist Christopher Parkening took a great liking to the piece and wished to record it and include it on his new album...except he wished to call it "Jubilation" (as Chis Parkening was in a religious rebirth phase of his life and the album was also oriented to religious themes)
As Andy tells it, at first he was opposed to the idea (the name was Sunburst).....then Parkening told him about the projected sales and potential royalties, and Andy said "I guess it can be Jubilation" LOL
Beautiful piece and performance!
Qué maravilla!!
Espectacular!!!!
wonderfully uplifting..
Thank you very much, Donna!
Wonderful to hear it played by the man himself. What chops!
Breathtaking ! Truly wonderful !
Many thanks!
It was my pleasure ♪♪
We have so many unsung heroes of music like Mr. York.
Let his composition be a tribute to all of them past, present, and future.
So, I got the tabs and made it as far as Page 308 and then my hands kinda got tired...
You are inspirational

This master and Joe Satriani should do an album together.
Outstanding playing! Love that you write your own music; refreshing!❤
Thank you very much, Kathy!
Magnifique
Thank you, Teddy!
Having that familiar feeling again as a semi-intermediate classical guitarist. You know, the one where you think "I can play that Andrew York piece", and then a minute into it...
Tuning the guitar in the middle lol
Crazy
Just effing amazing. I love John Williams' rendition of this; however, Mr. York is the ORIGINAL and I respect that.
John Williams if you want a flawless, note-perfect rendition. York if you want a "wilder" feel with insane use of vibrato and microdynamics
