    R53s are tough and have indestructible engines if you service them properly. Oil changes, etc..

    I have a green R53 too. It’s always needing something or another but it’s such a charming little car, I don’t mind. Thank god it’s not a daily driver.

    Check belt tension first , should have one hole showing on tensioner strap and also make sure the harmonic balancer isn't starting to slip between the two halves of the balancer . The balancer has a rubber strip that fails around 100,000 miles . The belt tensioner and harmonic balancer both are wear items and can cause belt slip . Also check the small tube that runs from a nipple under the curbside supercharger horn to the fuel pressure regulator because they get knocked off of the nipple easily . Aftermarket supercharger boots don't seal as well as stock boots and you probably didn't need the new maps and stuff . Just to be on the safe side open the oil filter canister and make sure the oil bypass valve is in it's proper place. They bypass can get knocked out of place when changing the filter and destroy the rod bearings because of low rpm oil pressure . Preface lift R53 use a filter that you have to swap the plastic filter cage from the used filter into the new filter and they can get stuck in the old one and thrown out and then the new filter shrinks and blocks flow . Newer R53 have different oil canister design and the plastic filter spreader cage is built into the filter but you still need to be careful that you don't knock the oil bypass in the bottom of the oil canister out of place when changing the filter because low oil pressure at idle destroys a lot of r50 and r53 engines . Another common problem is corrosion on terminal number 3 causing misfire on boost but is easy to fix by just sanding the coil terminals and putting dielectric grease on them and also check your new sparkplugs once in a while because they are known for blowing out and ruin the threads . The timing chain tensioner can also get stuck because it uses oil pressure to maintain chain tension and won't push out to a deployed position with low oil pressure or dirty oil blocking it's feed port . If it ever starts sounding like a diesel motor it's likely the oil tensioner is stuck and if you run the motor with a stuck tensioner it destroys the plastic timing chain slides fast . The low speed cooling fan resister is also problematic and can be bypassed so that the car doesn't overheat when it eventually fails . Hope this helps someone . They are good strong engines that generally last 250,000 >300,000 miles with good maintenance . hey dude some great advise there you have provided in your response.
      You wrote "small tube that runs from a nipple under the curb-side supercharger horn to the fuel pressure regulator because they get knocked off of the nipple easily" - could you please tell me why it keeps blowing it off for me? I constantly had to put it back on, to the point that it will now only stay on if I zip tie it.
      Is using the zip tie dangerous and I should be looking into the cause of this, or, is it because I have 17% reduced supercharger wheel?
      Thanks

    • @gregorycasey2271
      @gregorycasey2271 11 місяців тому

      If the zip tie is working just continue using it and having a 17% pulley is unrelated . It's just old and you could replace the line but I'd wait and see how long the zip tie holds . @@patryksodzinski9461

    each map sensor is a specific part number. check to make sure you put the right sensor in the right position.

    Btw for your seat issue, either open up the buckle slightly with a dremel to fit the r56 reciever, or change jsut the seat belt receiver from r56 to r53.

    I’d suggest now that you solved the reason for the code (ic boot) put the original sensor back and see if the code stays cleared.

    super charger is much quieter now that the boot cover to the horn is properly on. I thought it was toast.

    Ah yes the Mini Cooper engine fault code bingo game...my R56 went into safe mode several times despite running smooth - cleared after turning engine off and on...now perfect a few months later without a trip to Mini...great fun but a pain to own too!

    when you jump a car, all you have to do is place the jumper cables on from the other car and wait 5 minutes, 10 minutes. Ensure your car is off. Your car computers draw 100 to 300 watts so when you jump a car don't make the jumpers run the computers as you try to charge the batteries. True jumper cables are rare, and most of the time, you need to wait for the drained battery to raise in voltage at least up to 12volts.

    If you have any questions about this Car, I've disassemble mine twice and completely rebuilt the engine twice. I run a link G4X plug ECU so I can do any modification and be able to tune the car easily.

    Once you fix the car, you'll be happy to mod it, mini are great handling car also if you modding the engine I suggest to go with the pulley reduction first before aesthetic parts

    I have a 2006 R53 with a similar problem that I'm trying to fix.
    When I start the car, it runs normally for as long as it takes, however, when I stop at a traffic light or something similar, after a few seconds the engine starts to slow down and loses power, BUT, to solve the problem, just turn it off and on again.
    I've played the EXACT same parts as you, and by next weekend I plan to replace both oxygen sensors. After that, I hope it gets fixed.

      @@SergeyPip I appreciate it! I forgot to mention: in my case, the first cylinder has a low compression of 90. I don't believe it is related as it is a non-continuous symptom.
      As soon as I install the sensors, I'll come back here to report if it had any effect.

      @@Ghost16-k5n yes. Misfire code on cylinder 1. I'll take advantage of the holiday and disassemble the head gasket. I'm pretty sure it's carbon in the valve.

    • @RaphaelPourre
      @RaphaelPourre 11 місяців тому +1

      I fixed the misfire problem. It was the camshaft position sensor. Until I got to it, I changed all possible sensors. Maybe this post will be useful for someone who is having similar problems. Particularly, I didn't see anywhere about this sensor being related to the misfire in cylinder 1. Now, nice to drive again.

    Kinda sounds like it has a boost leak or maybe the supercharger going out

    • @SergeyPip
      @SergeyPip  Рік тому

      From what I described to my mechanic, he thinks it may be just that. And unfortunately for some reason I did not check the other "boot" when I replaced the one on the right side. Probably won't hurt to double check, and replace the left side since I already have one ready to go!
