There is no quartet composition that conveys such pathos and suffering as The Seven Last 7 Last Words of Christ.Thank Chira for such an amazing performance.

The orchestral original does as you say, but this over-rated and over-played quartet arrangement/transcription does not; it loses so much compared to the orchestral version, and the earthquake in particular simply does not work.
The choral version Haydn made is fantastic as well, and the piano version authorised by him is ok for personal use.
In short - two masterpieces, and two functional arrangements.

@@elaineblackhurst1509 I would agree mate, very over played as far as classical goes. For whatever reason Classical hasn't ever really touched me the way romantic and even some modern has. I guess thats kinda the point, the enlightenment era always did favor the harsher more realistic elements in music whist romantic played on the heart strings...

For a slightly different take on Classical (c.1750-1800) you might find something of interest in the following:
Anything from his ‘sturm und drang’ period by Haydn.
Piano sonatas in A flat (Hob. XVI:46), or c minor (Hob. XVI:20).
      String quartets Opus 20
Symphonies 26, 39, 44, 45, 49 (there are about 19 in total from this period).
Anything ‘sturm und drang’ by anyone else.
      Mozart Symphony 25 (K183)
JC Bach Symphony Opus 6 No 6
Minor key symphonies by Vanhal, Ditterdorf, et al.
Kraus Symphony in c# minor (VB140), or it’s re-working as Symphony in c minor (VB142)
Kraus Symphonie funebre in c minor (VB148).
Almost anything in his ‘empfindsamer Stil’ by CPE Bach including:
The six string symphonies (Wq 182)
The four orchestra symphonies (Wq 183)
The three quartets for flute, viola, cello, and keyboard (Wq 93)
The six harpsichord concertos (Wq 43)
Any of his fantasies, rondos, sonatas and so forth for keyboard.
Gluck’s ballet Don Juan, and/or the opera Orfeo ed Euridice.
All these works come from a very different sound world and a different emotional world from the few standard Haydn/Mozart works which make up the Classical mainstream repertoire across most of the world.
Hope this starters’ list is useful for anyone else who struggles a bit with Classical.

What a brilliant performance this is and that's coming from someone with multiple recordings of this great work. Beautiful pacing, divine serenity, heavenly pizzicati and a truly vigorous earthquake to conclude. I'd love this on disc/in high-res digital.

You need to check out Haydn’s own words about the original commission from Spain which can be found in his Preface to the later choral version; short of the proper context, the work is almost meaningless, especially in the string quartet arrangement which as I have explained in detail elsewhere is probably Haydn’s single most over-played and over-rated work.
The orchestral original, and the choral version are unqualified masterpieces (whilst the fourth version, a piano arrangement authorised by the composer is ok for personal use).
