- The Presidential Gem & Mineral Society took a field trip to the Palermo Mine in Groton, NH. I took home:
1) Banded feldspar
2) Smoky quartz in microcline
3) Triphylite (from Dennis) and
4) Triphylite in pegmatite (from Nick).
Two spheres of each type, half for my collection, half donated to the PGMS raffle.
No talk.

It's so cool to see the raw material, slabs and finished marbles together. Seeing how boring, dirty rocks can be so beautiful inside is awesome.
Sphering really shows off the rocks of New Hampshire, a place not known for world-class, exotic minerals.
missed a few because i thought i was a sub with notifications. not again! some of your close-ups are mesmerizing
Thanks. Feldspar is very pretty if you look closely.
Wow ! Beautiful, please send me one 🙏 😊
I ended up giving away half of these spheres. I kept one of each type for my collection and put the rest in the monthly PGMS raffle (including the little wooden stands). Raised a few bucks and 6 people went home with cool marbles.

Do you need a permit or anything to get into the mine?
The mine is private property, with owners trying to make a living. The "permit" comes as a result of setting up a paid trip. The Presidential Gem & Mineral Society (of Lancaster, NH) visited, and paid, as a club. But the trip was free for us club members.
haven't been to the Palermo in 20 years so was looking forward to this video......what a disappointment.....all this person picked up was nothing.......
Picked up enough to make 8 spheres. Gave 5 of them away at a PGMS raffle, kept the other 3 in my collection.
