Wonderful - takes me right back to 1973! The Tradewinds themselves "covered" it in their 1999 Greatest Hits album, but that version is inferior. Am struck though how the song plays up racial and ethnic stereotypes, and wonder how such a song would go down nowadays. Enjoyable nonetheless! Thanks!
@marisule At the time when the Tradewinds made their songs, people in Guyana and the West Indies were not so sensitive about the race issue. We had our differences and sometimes it played in when funtime came along. You can remember Sparrow with, 'I never had a white meat yet'. All was innocently done without harm meant to anyone. Of course nowadays is different with the 'race card' being played frequently (encouraged by the system as it creates fights) and stifling political correctness.
this song has nothing to do about race or ethnicity. Its all about our outlook on sex using a substance that is indiginous to China. Forget that approach Mr Shaziman.STOP SPREADING FEAR .
Lovely hits
Ive been listening to the trade winds from i was a teenager
Hahahahaha!!! One of my favorite calypso's growing up. Thank you SOOOOOO much!
As kids, we had to sing this tune under our breaths, not even knowing what it meant. Guilty parents, huh?
one of my all time favorites. yuh could drop 10 pounds dancing to this ting.
This is the original live version. And the best version as recorded.
