Old equipment is awesome! The nature of it is usually very basic and it just wants to work, but it also seems to usually have a personality and wants someone to pay for making it sit around doing nothing. Always a great feeling when it decides to accept your offering of time, effort and various petroleum offerings to the iron gods!
Another classic. Top-side is your lube point for that pivot shaft, should be one of those old bolt holes, or both. Old school way is to pack them, fill with old tar grease and run the bolts in part ways to give it the ooze factor. Seeing you dig out old bitumen chunks is likely because someone ran old road chips through it however who knew what the previous operator deemed as proper lube especially if there was an old oil field nearby. All in all a fine tool and obviously built to outlast man and time. Look forward to ear protection day, the rumble and ground shaking of an old jaw crusher is always worth the trip.
When I was in my early twenties, my best friends Grandfather bought one of these from a local farm sale. Moving it was a bit of a challenge, we picked it with an old international R/O crane and hauled it on the flatbed. It was a little top heavy if you can imagine we only had to move it about eight miles but it was super squirrelly . The plan was to spin it with a D2 but his Pop pop passed away 20 years ago before he ever got to use it. It’s up on new timber’s now but we’re 60 years old now.

Man, I'd love to disassemble that thing, clean it up, paint, and put it back together. That would be fun and satisfying. Men don't grow up...our toys just get bigger.
Thanks for the video Squatch. I can tell your so anxious to get back to doing some work, but you need to be careful because I'd really hate to see you have a set back. I understand but you need to heal well before you get to busy working. With the wind picking up I'd be a little scared of the dust to start flying around and get in that eye. Be patient my friend we will all be glad to see you get back to your projects but give it some time. With all that bunch of rock piles you say it's not going to be a real production but it will be good to put on the roads there on the farm.
0:33 i painted all of our magnet mounts in neon green for that exact same reason. Can't lose them now. The color basically emits pain. Before that, everyone used to lose one every month or so.

May have crushed used blacktop to produce ' rap ' or just crushed for a consistent fill type product. Some of the old crushers used a tar/wax lubricant in the bearings. I'll bet if you find out the maker and jaw sizes, Columbia casting co will have patterns for new parts. Good luck !! The loose flywheel may be tightened up by using what is called a 'Dutchman ' type of fastener. usually a 1/2 to 1 in bolt threaded into the shaft and flywheel. Can also use pipe plugs, that can make the joint so tight it cannot be taken apart !!

Absolutely just awesome. Just like a young kid in a candy store. Glad you’re making positive progress on the rock crusher. Lots of motivation is also good for the eye and the mine.
That deal is gonna be a project and a half when you get into it. It'll be helpful to you to make a decent A frame lift or jib crane to lift the heavy bits but not be permanently in place. Even as a 'as needs arise' piece, might be good to have a roof over it and to plan out the outlet for the crushed material so you're not having to really dig and struggle. Like a more elevated position, longer chute into a collection bunker to scoop from. But first your eyes gotta heal up, time has to present, and it's gotta not be frozen too.

You missed the smaller ore crusher at Albany. Built in Cedar Rapids IA. Patent 1910. It was seized too. In fact it had tree roots wrapped into the steel wheels of the carriage. I've been anxiously awaiting this. Thank you.

Try wrapping a rope around the pulley, and pulling the rope with your truck. btw I have a rake type of bucket for my JCB excavator. I am using to dredge weeds out of a pond.. It would be great to sift the rocks from the soil.
For old babbit bearings, depending on the temperature, you should consider NLGI 000 grease, a little hard to source, depending, flowable above 20°C. It will stick around better than gear oil. Best wishes from the far North.

They were crushing asphalt it looks like. Makes sense for how clapped out it is to feed it something light and squeeze out every last bit of work out of it
11:18 that used to be a platform bolted on top of the rock crusher. Pretty common way to get rock in without having too much of a hassle dealing with scoops and dumping rock. Given the thickness, those are probably the bolts that held the beams for the platform, not for the actual platform itself. Might've been a mine crusher if that's the case, as they'd be about the only people who'd keep a machine like this long enough (in one place) to do it.
Soooooo I’m really wanting to see that wood cab mounted (that to me is the end of that build) and now i’m more excitedly waiting to see the rock crusher working! Are you planning a full nut and bolt rebuild or just clean up and make work? Also, are the holes on the flywheel threaded for weights?

I would suggest pulling the shaft and flywheels and having them converted to use taper lock hubs. That would be a much better long term solution.

Try shrink wrapping the spring tensioners with oily rags for winter. They might take a thread chase die, by Spring. 😂
