My first time hearing the bagpipes was out in the middle of no-where 30 miles from the closest paved road. We were out fishing/camping in central British Colombia and thought we were the only people around for miles. This old guy comes out to this area to practice where he can't disturb anyone and walks the dirt roads while practicing. Fog rolled across the lake, and you hear this amazingly clear bagpipes. It was surreal. Since then, the Bagpipes have been one of my favorite instruments. When you hear them, you know what they are. I think the only other sound that is more unique is the didgeridoo. Amazing to hear a modern sound from an ancient instrument. Well done!

Its because you are used to bagpipes being used to lament. At a funeral for example. Or to keep time at a modern day army march. However the scottish and Irish bagpipes descend from the Great Irish Warpipes. They were originally designed to amp you up, They didnt march in time, they didnt use them to keep pace. They were used to amp themselves up, with drums. It's no joke that they used to enter battle frenzy and "beserker" modes. We know very little from how they fought due to this, but we know some things. We know they hit like a truck, we know that they were fast, some kearns went to fight in France and the french could not belive their speed, they would just run off full speed, sprinting come back with heads of enemies cut off, screaming like wild animals, having cut off the food supply chain of the enemy. We know that they hit really really hard, with normally an axe. Not a battle axe like movies but a normal axe. We know they hit so hard that they would split the helmets of vikings clean in half, while burying the axe into their head. We know they split shields in half. The last thing we know is that they never gave up. When rome was taking over europe often they had to just win a big battle and the people would then bow to the romans, Kill one king and they took over the land. This simply didnt work with the Irish/Scottish. You could beat them in a huge battle and they wouldnt bend the knee, they would actually do small guriella style attacks on you as you returned to base. It's why the Romans had to build a wall to keep the Scots (who were irish/share irish ancestor) out. They would just shrug "so what if you beat us in the battle, still not the boss of us". I'm just saying all this to say that the bagpipe was made to get the most amped people in europe amped up to level 10, so when paired with other music that amps you up, it should work very well, and it does in this song.
