The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I felt that the orchestra was a bit too fast.

Roberta, who passed away in 2017, was one of the Met's leading sopranos.

One of the worlds greatest coloratura sopranos from the last century, not sure we have one like that now.

THANK GOD for ED SULLIVAN! We have such great gems from this to Julie Andrews, Joan Sutherland, Corelli etc. I dont think Pavarotti ever did one here tho.

Her Zerbinetta's aria is the best I've ever heard. Superb German diction too. Her middle range was richer than most high coloraturas. A shame her extreme top didn't match the rest of her voice - could be rather 'wiry'.

I was surprised to see she just died recently in 2017 at age 86. She was born in May 4th, 1930, which means she had just turned 37 here. But she's made to look so old with her hairstyle and makeup! I mean, the Olsen Twins, Lady Gaga and Megan Fox are 37. Certainly a lot of things have changed in 55 years! 😮😂

Yep people used to look much older! I’ve seen pictures of my grandparents when they were in their twenties and thought they were in their forties at first!

👍👌👏 A really, really fantastic singer but a pretty ridiculous piece of music, nevertheless extremely demanding/stressful for the voice.

Give me a double dose of full-strength aspirin! Had to turn the volume down due to possible ear damage from the high notes. And finally just quit watching the video completely.
