Wow. That was very successful to have the families able to see their father's signatures. They must have experienced a fantastic emotional connection with the past. Hats of to the Obon Society for its good work in reuniting these flags with people and families. It is such a good thing to do.

It's a slippery slope... The flags became a shared cultural legacy for both nations through the horror of war. If a flag was taken as a souvenir of a hard fought battle, then brought back to the states and well preserved in the American family's care for generations, it becomes a family treasure to the American family as well. Say, as a kind of memento of their grandfather who fought in the war. As long as these flags are being physically cared for and well preserved (wherever they reside) that is what really matters. The flags are ambassadors of Japan and represent the long and sometimes tumultuous relationship, and deep friendship between our countries.

I found one guy who COLLECTS these flags Parading them on you tube thinking it is 'cool' they have blood stains on them, would you believe it ?
Even though he thinks he might care much for these flags, it will be nothing compared to the family of the dead soldier.
Hope one day he might grow up and wise up and return them to the rightful owners in Japan. The war is over, move on.

How come the Japanese haven't collected all the nuclear weapon particles we sent over there, put them in a lead box, and returned them?

half-life of atomic weapons largely clears out in 2 weeks, also both were airbursts so they don't generate much fallout

Because they were air burst and not ground impacting so there wasn’t any “particles” any particles were burned up by the heat and also very insensitive and ignorant comment. Just felt like telling you that while also educating you so you don’t feel the need to make these ignorant comments on other videos in the future
