Mark King, maestro. Always awe struck at his musical ability, playing the bass like an absolute boss and lead vocalist at the same time, now that's talent. Was playing level 42 in the car with the window down, stopped at traffic lights and the guy in the car next to me called out " absolute tune, more volume", so happily obliged.
Can't tell what's more impressive: the bass groove or the fact that he can sing while playing it
Yes
Exactly.
And he can chew gum at the same time :-) Still pretty darned amazing.
Skilled musicain. His brain and motor fuctions have been linked from years of playing.
And it helps that he's firking excellent...;-)
i would more impress if the trumpet player sings while he plays the trumpet. :),
Mark is so on point with that bass, and singing and keeping time with the rest of the band. Pure talent.
I've played bass for over 50 years, Mark is INCREDIBLE! Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham, Paul McCartney, Stanley Clarke, Verdine White, (a few others LTD , Slave, Lakeside) Mark IS in that class. My GOODNESS he's phenomenal!!!!!!!!
And Marcus Miller.
As a musician, to me is very very impressive to hear a band sounding like this live, and mostly after 30 years, wonderful musicians and incredible sound,
That's the result of living a clean life, their positive music has a lot to do with it...
I just commented on that. The sound is incredible!
Yes! I have never heard that live. In my 45 years not! ^^ Thats Awesome!
Exacto
I am pleased to read a real musician confirming the impression I have! I've never learnt to play and therefore am uncertain that my assessment is valid when I have the belief.
My god, the bass playing on this is just sick. Top notch.
He is or was rated Top 5 at one time.
Mark King is Awesome on Bass Guitar. You should hear him play instrumental called Mr Pink WOW.
Cannot believe he still sings like this. Man, you are a legend Mark.
Sounds exactly how he did in the 80s.....
🙌
He is just amazing, and still sooo hot !!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Damn, I'm so happy to be a kid of the 80s!!!!
I’m 15, and I actually wish I was born in the late 60s lol
@@koenfje I definitely agree with you, but I would want to be born at the beginning of the 60's
Born in the 50's but you cant beat good music
At the time that I was a teenager of the 80s, I wished to be alive in the 60s minus Vietnam.
Me too brother.
Mark King is a machine on that bass, and vocals also. Amazing!
Thoes words as you put it is Spot On Mark King is a Machine with the Bass and should be number 1 in the Bass charts and he isn't and I think it's wrong. Mark is a regular Bass Player in the Princess Trust House Band and why is that? Because He's The Best The Worlds Best and lastly Mark should be United By Her Majesty' The Queen and become Sir Mark King that Man fully Deserves It.
Of course!
Yes. He is amazing
Like Phil on the drums😊😊
Impressive - not an easy song to reproduce live and they pulled it off.
Level 42 right now is on level 100, these guys are amazing
1980-2022 when Level-42 reaches Level 42...such inspiring driving and never boring music over all these years with exceptional musicians .
I was 22 when they started...and I'm still addicted.
So......this guy plays the bass this way and also is the lead singer for Level 42??¡¡¡¡¡ just....WOW.....every day we can discover such great things in the music world
Crazy! These guys are still phenomenal! And Mark’s iconic slap bass rhythm is still the bomb! 👊😊🇨🇦
Marc King is the best bass popplayer...nobody plays like that with his thumb amazing!
Check out Stanley Clark...They are both great bass players. Mark rips it like a funk master.
I love his pops, they're a work of art alone.
Les Claypool of Primus plays a more jazzy/metal style of bass.
True and fair go to the drummer to, that machine gun blast between the verse and the back to the chorus was awesome
We all should learn, having a loving heart. Thank you, you are a teacher, hidden in this song, Holy Spirit teaches us, please. Amen. God bless us all.
Can't decide who's more impresive- Mark on bass & vocals, or Mike on keyboard & falsetto vocals. Altogether- fabulous band!
A 100% first class live performance.
There are actually two persons inside Mark’s body; one sings, the other plays the bass
Very cool description!
And a Drummer :)
actually 3. another one is drum😂
That's called professionalism and can be reached by hard work, millnnial ! That generation actually does its job and doesn't pretend to. Back then we didn't get paid for selfies. Your generation is always so damn sure about everything and throws with criticism like confetti but doesn't know how to do its job!
@@TheNewsAnchorYouTrust eerrr, what?
Gosh, you must be fun to be with in parties.
Always loved this baseline.. still loving it in 2023 since '85
Holy Shit these guys still have IT ! Great band and fantastic memories of the 80s !
Powerful bassist! Singing while playing the base like that!?Insane!!😍
I’ve seen Level 42 more times than I can remember. Best band during my lifetime.
The band is tight - tight to (almost) perfection. Yet the drummer; a crazy drummer - genius he is. With Mark certainly. A band of the first class. Bravo!
Wonderful! Still with the same sound and voice. ❤❤❤
Spring of 87 I used to blast this entire album on my car stereo. Such a great album. God, how I loved that girl I was dating that year.
Hits me in the gut harder every decade after decade.
That Bass line is so infectious 😀👍
Level 42 opened for Steve Winwood in the US around 1987. What a class act! They dropped off the Winwood tour to play a sold-out show at Wembley. Good lads!
Bring Me a Lesson in Love
Breathtaking! Saw them in the early 80s at the University of Saarbrücken, Germany. Sounded then like in this video. Top!
A beauty of the 80’s. Everybody runs to dance floor when this one comes. Iconic Bass playing as well.
Astonishing. Thank you Level 42. Love you guys.
What and learn kids , this is how it was done in the 80s . It was a total blast for music and fashion , I am defo going back again next time round !!
OMG! I feel so sorry for todays youth that doesn´t have real music!
The 80's. The golden era. No social media. Just FANTASTIC music. Cheers
One of my favourite groups from my youth the fantastic level 42 Mark King simply brilliant miss the 80 s so much
Probably one of the best bassists. Still powerful in 2019.
Listen Joe Dart of Vulfpeck...😉
@ , sorry man, but the Mark King's slap style of playing the bass guitar is unique 😎
@@Di-Revan Yeah!!!! dear Richie, agree with you ✌️🤘🤞🎸, Mark King is spectacular always!!!!.
I grew up my whole life thinking this bass part was sequenced, because surely no human can play this. Just wow.
Mark King is really special with a unique way of playing his bass guitar, but don't forget Phil Lynott, Victor Wooten, maybe Jacco Pastorius, all real good bass players with an unique talent.
@ 2020 who's still watching?
I am :-)
Yes, of course, fantastic music for eternity..................🥰🤞✌️🤘🎤🤘🎸🎶🎼
outstanding!!!
No preguntís huevás.

The tempo here is faster than the studio recording, but not a single bass note was missed or out of time, and we still get solid vocals on top.
Mark King is not human. #AbsoluteLegend
I am blown away at how good these guys are.
Yes!!!! They still sound incredible.
Level 42 went to another level when they added drummer Pete Ray biggin. Great call Mark.
Eles só melhoraram com o tempo.... Show incrivelmente magico!!!
I'm not proud, I was wrong
And the truth is hard to take
I felt sure we had enough
But our love went overboard
Lifeboat lies lost at sea
I've been trying to reach your shore
Waves of doubt keep drowning me
All the dreams that we were building
We never fulfilled them
Could be better, should be better
For lessons in love
For restless eyes egos burn
And the mold is hard to break
Now we've waded in too deep
And love is overboard
Heavy hearts token words
All the hopes I ever had
Fade like footprints in the sand
All the homes that we were building
We never lived in
Could be better, should be better
Lessons in love
If we lose the time before us
The future will ignore us
We should use it, we could use it, yeah
Lessons in love
Lost without love
Lessons in love
When will you ever learn
Lessons in love
When there's nowhere left to turn
Lessons in love
Don't let your spirit burn
Lessons in love
I'll wait 'till you return
All the dreams that we were building
We never lived them
We could lose it, we should use it
(Lessons in love) lessons in love
All the homes that we were building
We never lived in
Could be better (could be better), should be better
Lessons in love
If we lose the time before us
The future will ignore us
We should use it, we could use it (good god)

Level 42,lesson in love. the Great bassist. greatest hits of all time. new wave never fade ❤🎉🎉
love this band and this song is awesome
Fantastic. I was lucky to meet Mark King in the 80's. Awesome 👌
So bad ass, just as good as when they were young. I used to jam this on my Walkman with the orange headphone in 85
¡Noice!
Same as that fren. And, yes, noice
Saw these guys in Birmingham 2 yrs ago... the drummer is unreal... the actual band musicianship is peerless.
Only a drummer could play the bass as good as Mark King. He is something there special indeed.
Great songs stay great. Love this arrangement. Performers still killing it after 30, now 44 years.
i love his accent in slapping those bass strings. very powerful in constant tempo. he is god of bass
Level 42 qué gran banda!! Mark King es un virtuoso del bajo que creó ese sonido característico de esta canción, y con un riqueza musical notable, un himno de los 80's. Recordando desde Perú 🇵🇪🇵🇪
What a brilliant, unique sound.
Mark King plays like a smooth running Aston Martin!
A pint and a half of vodka brought me to this!
A bottle put my 16 year old son in the back of an ambulance!
The bass, the voice everything in Level 42 it's perfection!!! I love you !! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Not sure why I didn't get into this band in its day...a well oiled machine with PASSION
Mark King one of the best bass guitarist you'll ever see look at him go. in the day his fingers were insured for a cool million.
RIP Boon; You were on some musical Level.
OMG I didn't know, if one of them was to die that way a guess was him, I believe he had some deep sensitive soul, which gave Level 42 Lyrics an unusual true level. I am really sad at learning of his death. And an underrated guitar player as his touches were small but essential. How he knew the way to blend in.... all 4 original members were just put together with magic. R.I.P.
Mr Slap Bass himself. Legend.
Well, you’ve just seen and heard probably the greatest bass player of them all! Loved them since the eighties and still so. Amazing band!
This song had all the great bands saying, dam I wish I wrote that. A bands, band!
Master of bassguitar,... great voice...
Drummer is an absolute beast.
my bass-hero of the 80ies.
bass-slapping, grooving and singing at one time together is absolute awesome !
30 years have passed and that’s still a great song and a memorable hit⭐️ great job gentlemen!!🎵🎧
Mark is a robot. Has to be. Dude is my favorite bass player ever. I never see him in best bass players on media. He freaking shreds it.
One of the hardest bass-lines to play. The sheer endurance needed to keep that thump going for 5 minutes....
Oh yes!!!!!! 💃💃💃 80s all round. Love you level 42. This is what I call actual MUSIC
RIP Boon; thank you for years of phenomenal childhood music and memories.
R.I.P. Boon, a guitar, a man, a soul, a member or one of the best ever groups. Not against follwing members, but the original 4 were just amazingly complete.
I love, love, Love Level 42. The first time I heard these guys, I was stationed in Bad Hersfeld Germany in early 80s!! I was completely blown away by their harmonies, grooves and then..Mark King's crazy funky bass lines...so cool.
His slap is so powerful
Awesome this gives me goosebumps!
I miss the way the world was back then.
Best bass guitarist ever mark king
I was never a fan, but this sounds phenomenal. Tight as fuck.
At 58 yrs old I find myself clicking on Live clips of bands from my youth....Many of them are even worse than I remember, BUT every now and then I find a treasure like THIS.
Marks bassline riff in this the most memorable unforgettable one in the world for all time! ITS A BEAUTY and he plays it percussive with just his thumb!!!
The drums and bass are killer.
The bass and everything else at the speed of light ... Masterpiece !!!
my cat's vet recommended this band to me and he said "pay attention to the bass line", when I heard it I was like "but this is a machine/synth bass line... oh wait--what??"
Hello is amazing such a legend
Wow! He still kind of sounds the same! I loved loved loved this group! I discovered them!😜 played them so much, most of my friends and family became fans!
The BEST vocal fusion band today. Pete Ray Biggins & Mark King are rhythmic eargasms.
August 2023. I still love it👍
Love level 42. Good memories with their songs. And some bittersweet. I was 35 when they came on the scene.
I like his songs
I absolutely love them, slap and pop that bass baby 🥰👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Still listening in 2019.
But of course
Since when?
Yawn
If I make it that far will be in 2059!
No you are not , you just here for your daily fix of likes....Idiotic question 2019 my a........
Sin duda la mejor época, la mejor música...80s y 90s. Como amo está canción 🥰🍷
Saw them last night in Sheffield ! Omg they were amazing , what an amazing night ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ only took 40 odd years : aw I’m still buzzing !
Mark King the most underrated bass player & singer of all time I think not just 80s, but what a fantastic time to be a teenager and to get too hear & watch these types of videos when MTV was heck a good!
RIP Rowland 'Boon' Gould. Thanks for the music.
What??!!
@@ricturtle What what?
@@ricturtle What don't you understand exactly?
Dave Chard I was shocked that Boon has passed away. I knew he had health issues.
Don’t forget the tenor sax! That was smooth af
An absolute genius on a bass guitar...
What do you get when you take great lyrics, add awesome musicians, mix that up with amazing talent and a wicked groove? You get Level 42!
How he plays that guitar is amazing
Still a very good song. Improved with time. Like a good wine.
It’s a disgrace that the shit that so called “bands” churn out today makes millions of pounds. This is real talent so glad they are still doing it!
Wow!!!
Voices intact!
WHAT A BAND!
One of the greatest bassists.. every member is a MASTER!

Fantastic live versión.
their voice is still so good. it shows they take care of it.
Wow! The 80's would be complete without reaching Level42! 😎🤘
Great band one of my faves of all time and Mark king is the G.O.A.T bassist 👍👍👍hats off to you sir.
Awesome performance . One of the best bassists of all times
