  • “The Village (FREE)DGE was started to bridge the gap in hunger throughout communities in South Florida. Yes, there are many food drives but some people don’t have cars to get there, and that’s where the (Free)dge comes in.” - Sherina Jones.
With the development of the pandemic, Sherina Jones saw the need for supplies and resources rising within her community - and she decided to take action into her own hands.
Jones partnered with Isaiah Thomas and Danny Agnew of Roots Black Collective to set up a number of community refrigerators - the Village Free(Edge)s - in Liberty City, to assist residents who were struggling with putting food on the table. These community refrigerators are placed throughout the community, accessible 24/7, and filled with fresh foods for those in need.
As the demand for food continued to rise, Sherina and theVillage Team expanded. Now, their operations include a fully stocked food pantry, with service of hot breakfast meals, daily coffee, in addition to a unique, 3-tier food bag system, designed specifically to cater to the various needs of individuals based on their living situations.
Since Rethink Food began working in Florida, we’ve had the opportunity to supply meals through our Rethink Certified program to supplement the activities of Village Free(Edge). We’re so proud to be a part of this operation. We caught up with Sherina to learn more about her work.
