- This is a big one.
In celebration of Still Life's 25th anniversary, I'm excited to share what is probably Opeth's best ever performance and recording of Serenity Painted Death.
SPD is a favourite for many Opeth fans, and it's one of the band's most requested tracks. But it remains a rarity: other than brief periods in early 2003 and 2008, it's never been played live. Thanks to this anonymous taper, Opeth's fantastic performance, and my own remix and master, we can finally hear this masterpiece at its full live potential.
But wait - there's more! The incredible artwork that I used as the background to this video was created by the legendary Travis Smith. This was his first idea for Still Life's back cover. According to Travis, he started out with a pink shade as he and Mikael were going to try to create a similar vibe as the first Black Sabbath record cover. Through different versions, this idea then evolved into the red aesthetic that was used in the final album art.
Lastly, don't forget that Opeth will be releasing a limited edition reissue of Still Life on November 8th, 2024. You can pre-order it at the official shop or at a bunch of other online stores (Peaceville, Juno, Nuclear Blast, Rough Trade, and more).

Happy anniversary once more to Still Life, and thank you to everyone involved with this work! As always, if the band, label, or management have any issues with this post, please let me know and I'll be happy to edit / remove as needed.
