Thank you so much, and much respect and appreciation for your experiential perspectives on new equipment in all your videos. Especially for regarding the tonal aspects of what a true system representation can do for discerning listener. Also great to see the ranges of what’s affordable to achieve it 🙏🏼
All these boo hoo comments about pricing is ridiculous and embarrassing to read. A show like this highlights the best there is. Something to aspire to. I love seeing the advances that are made in the various fields. Amazing performance can be had for much less money thankfully. Which is in part due to the cost no object advances in technology shown here. So let’s enjoy the possible without all the negative hyperbole. Find another hobby if you can’t handle there being unattainable gear. It’s like any other area of quality and performance such as watches or cars. Nice quick summary of amazing gear Tom.
There is a whole dissertation (I'll spare you!) on how pricing at shows seems to work. But talking to most OEMs, you find that show attendees seem to be attracted by the extremes, so many OEMs who don't make under $1000 gear, go toward the top of their ranges to bring in an audience. For this reason, a lot of the $1k to $10k stuff we were interested in was on static display. We may try mixing more of that into future coverage.
Nice review! For me the aesthetics of the amp in the Magico set up are horrible. It's like having to look at an air conditioning unit someone plunked right on the floor between the speakers.
thank you. great episode. this industry has gone totally MAD, RIDICULOUS, & EXPENSIVE. when does it stop ?!!!.. give me a pair of Linkwitz (or the entire system) and i'll be the happiest clown. they sound FANTASTIC . and the price is more realistic that much MUCH more expensive speakers that cost almost a House !!.. my personal experience is that the more i learn about Speakers. the more i'm convinced that the OBS is a way to go for me of course.. the other one i'm also very interested in is the QUALIO-IQ . wow they really sound superb and the price for a pair is a fraction of the cost of those fancy speakers in this video.. thanks again.
indeed! i suspect that a lot of these companies barely stay afloat by selling a mere handful of products yearly . i mentioned above that i have a lot of rich music lover friends and NONE of them have any of the stuff shown in this video . i really don't know who is purchasing this gear .
Tests determine potential because everything influences the end result and as many individuals have said, Synergy in most cases are the result in totality of the mystical properties of unrelated individual units regardless of specific tests. In short, The Proof is in the Pudding.
That is a key area of interest for us, but as explained elsewhere, seems a somewhat rare demo category (just static displays) at shows. Wildly generalizing, OEMs and distributors feel they can attract listeners with more unusual and higher priced gear. Still, I’m sure there were more demos than we heard
@@thomasmartin2219 Are these demoers there to simply show off what they have or are they there to hopefully drum up business? Do you think that demoing high priced equipment in order to attract more listeners is economically a wise choice given that 90% of those listeners can't afford such equipment and of the 10% who can only a very small percentage would buy based on what they heard at a show?
The Linkwitz LX521 speakers can be done in kit form from Germany for well under US$10K - including the Panzerholz/Aluminium top baffle seen above, as part of the deal. A fair bit of work to put it together, but worth thinking about? The price above is for the complete speakers, Powerboxes and cables, transport etc
How fast does the Bugatti go? Does it bolt onto their cars? If not, why not? Did you even go into the Audio Note room? I'll bet not. No advertising from them.
I bet if you showed up with some gear that contended with all these other brands but was 3-4k for the whole system, the event owners would kick you out.
Love quick recaps. Great job. You kind of suggest what a number of reviewers have mentioned that Munich is not always a great place to hear the stuff because of room conditions. But a great show to meet and get exposed to things. Bugatti speakers? Bugatti revolutionized the auto market with the first "mass produced" supercar the Veyron. It's design was spun off by the VW Group into the Audi R8. Which was then spun off to the Audi 5 series including the (B8.5) A5 I drive. So will Audi enter the lower priced audio market with a spin off?
Amazing new equipment. Interesting that the 26K total system May of been the best deal. Hopefully this is the stuff that sets the high-bar and allow trickledown of the technology to more affordable gear. Audiophile porn.
There ARE YT channels that actually excel at RECORDING demos of music on high end audio systems. YES you can hear the difference on YT. ONE of these videos is worth 1000 word-salad w/ pictures videos. Aspire to pay incredible prices but not aspire to record systems at Munich? No.
You're reviewing some very nice equipment at the show. Can you tell me how many of your viewers could ever actually afford any of this equipment? This seems very unrealistic.
It is a good question. There are about 20 million people with >$1 million in liquid investable assets. Of course they should all watch this channel…but they don’t. However, we don’t think the top of the market is the only place to focus which is why we cover $80 headphones and $800 DACs and $1000 speakers as well. The top is where show-going consumers have taught manufacturers and distributors to focus their displays. Big displays of expensive gear get more traffic they say and this helps with brand recognition for lower priced products. As a result, lots of demos feature expensive gear and we report on that (and this is often where new tech is seen). We will also say that, for example, the Linkwitz system costs about half of the average new car in the U.S. and will last twice as long, so it seems obvious in a way that many people could afford some of this gear.
Watching these outrageous prices while having an around $6000 setup makes me feel like a total looser.😊 In fact I might stop my 55 years hobby of listening to music, won't take the risk of being arrested by the super audio police of k$80 and up who tell you about diamond powder spraid on tweeters. On a second thought, better to stop watching these so called reviews and go on enjoying the music🎉
Yes, more music! $6k can buy very nice audio gear. The OEMs display what brings people into their rooms, they say, so we cover that. And some of us are interested in new tech which sometimes starts in high priced stuff.
Thanks Tom, much appreciated. The Linkwitz looks really fascinating, I’d certainly love to hear it. The price is also very attractive.
Appreciate your well made concise report. Cheers.

The Aeonor horn from Basil Martion was being demoed without DSP. The amps were pure linear Class A, custom made for the Aeonor.

The latest Andrew Jones speakers. $5,000.00 per pair.

Agree with the Martion, was next to Aries Cerat the best speaker on the show!
Martion system was only with analog good. There the Phono is likely way advanced to anything I know.
100k au$ for magico speakers...Wow! Can't wait for mine !!
Products that cost 1 or 2 years of a US salary !! Not to mention for europeans it would be like more like 3 years 😅

It's not an effing ''price point'' it's a price.
No panels w subwoofers? 😮
Open field coil w tube amp?
Alsyvox was not using subs. And Munich seemed to have many more horn demos than panels, though perhaps I missed some (see caveats).
I was hoping you would of mentioned the Diptyque speakers.
We have quite a bit of Diptyque coverage planned. They are worth paying attention to.
