    Great video, thank you! My 2013 Yukon XL didn’t have the 8 mm nut for the small wire, it had a plastic electrical clip, so some people may run into that, just fyi.
    Also, to echo Ron Xx above, removing the engine heat shield with the 6 x 10 mm bolts made a big difference to access and remove the starter sideways! However, don’t “remove” the heat shield. After it’s unbolted simply shimmy the shield upward to give enough space. Then reaffix afterwards.

    Thanks brother. All the other videos they pulled it out the bottom, tried and failed. Figured I could come out the side and your video walked me through it.

    Thank you for the video, utilized this to assist with my starter removal and installation on a 2011 suburban. Few things I wanted to mention for anyone reading - the starter won't come out of the bottom on a suburban due to the brake lines. Easiest way is the side. make sure you get a 3/8 deep long 13mm socket. I could not get the second screw out from the bottom with my 1/2 socket drive so I kept trying 1/4 socket drive (too close to the transmission) and broke 2 1/4 to 3/8 adapters. Second, do yourself a favor and remove the damn engine heat cover. It's like 6 10mm screws takes literally one minute. You'll spend more time trying to shimmy the starter in and out. Once that cover is off it makes things so much easier.

    You can just unbolt the starter, point the front toward the ground, and then disconnect the wires all from the bottom. Takes 15 min. There is no reason to touch that inner fender.

      I tried that method and it was a beotch getting my hands in there without scraping them all up plus dropping it out. His method is easier on the hands plus you dont have to lay on your back for it all. Be my go-to method next time I change one.

    Just did mine today. Those back 2 wires are a pain lol. I did have to take the wheel off but i didn't have to take out the plastic shield. My hands are small, i was able to get a small ratchet on the 2 cables on the back side of rhe starter by goingin under the heat shieldon the motor. My tahoe is lifted so that helped. I will say it helps alot to take 2 bolts out of starter then angle it down a little to get your hand in behind there. Took me a few hours. But saved some money.

    Sunday morning
    Forgot to put the heat shield on......

    • @YourCarGuyDR
      @YourCarGuyDR  22 дні тому

      @@chiefleediver8702 sorry for the late reply. I would test a couple of things first. If you have a test light or voltmeter and can hook it to the signal wire on the starter and have someone try to crank it. If you are getting 12 volts to the signal wire on the starter solenoid when the key is in the start position then it is almost certainly the starter that is bad. If you aren’t getting voltage it could be wiring, starter relay, neutral safety switch, ignition switch etc.

    What was the main issue with your starter/starting of Yukon? I have a new battery and new alternator but sometimes have a slow start (not a quick turn of key and engine start). Trying to figure out if it is a starter, ground or wire issue. (I have a 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali, 6.2L)

    • @YourCarGuyDR
      @YourCarGuyDR  2 роки тому +1

      In this case the starter quit completely. Sometimes a dragging or slow starter can be the result of bad or loose cables or even a starter relay issue. If a starter is drawing too many amps due to bad cables or poor connection it will shorten the life of the starter.

    How did you determine the starter was the problem? Can you describe what the symptoms were? My 07 Yukon Denali has a fully charged battery but wont turn over. I hear a click and nothing else. If I boost it, it will start. Maybe the boost is pushing more current then the battery alone can provide.

      @Jason Benavides I returned to Walmart with the battery and they tested it quickly and told me it was a good battery. I didn't trust their test so I bought another battery, this time and AGM battery instead of lead acid. I have not had the problems starting my truck since. I started it yesterday in -30 weather, block heater not plugged in after sitting for a week, started right up, no problems. I have returned the "good tested" battery back to walmart for a refund.

      Pete Oberman I would check to see if you are getting power to your starter on the signal wire. This will tell you if you have an issue with the switch or computer or if you just have a bad starter. An easy test is to use a jumper wire from the battery cable on the back of the starter and touch it to the signal connection (where the small wire connects on the back of the starter). If when you apply that power the starter engages then you check the relay, wiring, ignition switch. If it doesn’t do anything then you need a new starter.
