I need to add something to my last post. The newer ball and Kerr lids are failing not within the 24 hour period but a few days later! As I said before I have lost several jars of food that I never used to lose not even one jar with the old courier and ball lids. The new ball and curly heads are now made in China and they are more flimsy and the sale is more skimpy almost like it's painted on. If you do not have a lid for comparison you would not know that. I have KERR lids have been used for 10 and 12 years! it is the way i take the lids off that makes them reusable! I start by barely raising the lid and then I move a few inches and do the same thing again and again and again as I go around the lid when I hear the hiss is when I remove the lid. I have saved many many lives that way. Rather than just grabbing an opener and yanking it off and bending the lid a little. my lids are NOT DENTED or bent and I can reuse them again. I do put new lids on meat only. Other than that I really use my lids over and over. No problem so far but that is me!
I have a suggestion. Why don't you start up a company that makes canning jars? "THE JARS FOR JARS" Make them SQUARE. They would fit better together??? Ball owns all the rest!
I just pressure canned some turkey soup using the For jar lids I never have lids that have not sealed but these 3 quart jars out of 7 buckled they sealed but I did not trust the seal so I took soup out of the jars and when cooled froze it. It’s a good thing I did because it can affect the seal or food . The lids I believe are a little thinner cannot handle the heat , I am keeping a check on the other 4 jars as well. Will never use them again,
We didn't have trouble with sealing but most of ours were in the boiling water bath. However, now that we have been using the preserved foods we have found rust on the inner portion of the lids. We notified the company and won't be using them again until they fix this issue.
These lids are garbage! 98 percent fail with canning salsa! 30 jars! Then tried again just 2 days ago with canning beans! And another big bust! 3 out of 7 cans sealed! Unless I am using them wrong these are junk! So disappointed I don’t even use them for dry goods just put them in the trash can
That is horrible! We had no issues with them sealing. I think we used somewhere around 100 of them and they all sealed, but now that we have been using the contents we have found some with rust under the lids. We notified the company and won't be using them again.
Just looked into the Forjar lids. They’re expensive! They may have given you a nice incentive to make this video but 30/33 cents for a lid is a huge expense over time and there is no reason a canning lid should cost this much. I spend about 14 cents on a lid. They’re not as thick but I’ve never had a failure. I love that a company like Forjars is stepping up when Bell/Kerr have let us down but at 30/33 cents a lid, they’re bring quite profit greedy!
That's a shame. They must have raised their prices. When we did the video they were comparable to ball and with their bulk discounts it was less. There is actually very little compensation for a video of this type. We just like to find less expensive, better ways for our viewers to do things. The least expensive way we found was to go right to the companies in china but you have to buy in such bulk it is prohibitive. We considered getting some and offering them to our viewers for much less than these companies are but then there was the issue of not only the initial expense but storage and shipping. The reusable lids are more expensive initially but in the long run save you money. I wish you luck in your search for reasonably priced lids. :)
@@WisdomPreserved Yes. I called them yesterday and sent pics etc. and they refunded me for my order. Customer service was great. All the ones I used to can tomato or tomato based stuff are rusting underneath. The dill pickles I made were made recently, so keeping an eye on them to see if and when they turn. Hopefully they can fix the issue, I was pretty excited about those lids, I hadn't had a single one not seal properly.
@@WisdomPreserved and the harvest guard or tatler lids loose their seal within months. It could be my well water, even though I do add vinegar to the water when I boil the lids.
i have never had lids to buckle until i used the “for jar” lids… i didn’t screw on the rings too tightly…are these lids more sensitive to ring tension?
That's a good question. I did see another blogger had her for jars lid buckle as well. Over all though I have canned more than 50 jars with those lids and they seem to be doing okay.
@@WisdomPreserved thanks… i see that as the jars began to cool on the kitchen counter, the lids pulled down and sealed well. however, there is still a small spot of indent at edge… i hope they are ok
it is me again! Obviously my dictation does not come across correctly in my previous to post. I am trying to say KERR lids and BALL lids. It came out as courier and curly heads! Lol
We are sorry to hear that. If you look at some of our previous comments you will see that we have actually stopped using their lids due to trouble with rusting and notified the company of the issue. Unfortunately this was information we did not have when we did the video. Thank you for your comment though. It reminded me that it may be a good idea to just take this video down so it doesn't seem like an endorsement.
The amish never ever has and uses pressure canners. Neither do people in other countries. They just water bath them for 3 hours. Meats too. They have been doing it forever. The USDA are fearing you into using pressure canners.
I really like your overhead camera views; that way I can see everything at one time and comprehend what I'm looking to see. I have noticed that the ball lids, the new ones, (now made in China) are getting so flimsy and the seal is getting so skimpy that I have had several jars that did not seal! I am not a newbie and it's only just recently that I purchased new lids and they are the ones that are failing. I also have white TATTLER lids and I really prefer those because I can reuse them over and over again. I have some old Kerr lids (10 years old) that I compared to new Ball & Kerr lids today(also made in China) and the gasket around the OLD lid is so much thicker and the lid itself is thicker. I have heard some good things about the FOR jars lids and I think I will give them a try based on your comparisons. I will not buy any more ball or Kerr lids as long as the are being made in China!
All those lids are crap and fail in high acid canning for pickling and sourkrout because the acid vapor eats the lids only plastic and brass lids resist this.
We've actually stopped using the For Jars lids. Initially they sealed well but over time we found they would rust underneath. We notified the company and won't use them again until they get it fixed.
We have been canning with these. At this point, we have reservations about the For Jars lids due to rusting occurring after the canning. It hasn't been on all the lids but we have notified them of the issue and won't be using them again until they fix it. My overall favorite with all these lids is still Ball. I have heard some people complain that the quality has decreased recently but I haven't noticed that to be a problem.
I'm doing research on these lids just to have more resources for lids. While I appreciate you taking the time to make this comparison video, it's a bit hard to believe your opinions are unbiased with the Forjars icon in the upper corner. If you prefer them, say so, but don't blow smoke with a BS title.
We are always looking for less expensive but quality ways to can. That is why we did this comparison. For Jars supplied us with the lids with the understanding that we would use their logo. That being said our opinions were genuine. We do have additional information at this point: We have had a few of their lids rust underneath after being canned for a few months. We have also heard of others having the same issue. We notified the company of the issue and will not be using them again until this is fixed.
Why need canning lids in bulk, Are the canning lids meant to be disposed after use? Sorry, I’ve never used mason jars and canning lids for preserving food before.
Technically...the manufacturers always say not to reuse lids. We've actually had some trouble with the Forjars lids rusting on the underside so we have stopped using them and notified the company.
We knew about Ball and Kerr but thanks for letting us know about Golden Harvest as well. The interesting thing is that even though they are made from the same company there are still clear differences between the lids based on the brand.

Not yet. I'll have to look into it.

Have you done a video testing the Denali lids and their new pressure canner? I'm wanting to get my lids for next year. Thank you for your review.
