That beautifully built airplane should fly again. The builder spent a huge amount of time and passion into that plane and it would be a shame to just let it rust into dust. Please let Jimmy make it the fastest and most famous Lancair on earth. The builder would be proud looking down on his creation flying proudly through the skies again!!

To the family of the Lance-air, please allow Jimmy to purchase and fly that aircraft. He isn’t buying for profit, but for the love of the airplane and flying. It would be a shame to let it sit on the ground and deteriorate. It brings a lot of joy to those of us who watch on UA-cam and don’t have the means to fly to see these planes in the air again.

Regarding your engine mounts, you may want to consider this: FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 20-62, as amended, allows an owner to produce parts for his/her own aircraft. The AC describes what the owner must do to consider the parts to he "owner produced". It's one way to address a situation when you can't find an original part.

    • @therealjimmysworld

That’s how most of my parts are done with all these old airplanes.

    • @wingnut8511
      @wingnut8511 7 місяців тому +2

@@hardwaterhiker2657 I'm sure that there are companies that are capable of producing an identical product. One of the methods of complying with "owner-produced" requirements is that the owner can perform quality control oversight of the product. The owner doesn't have to physically produce the product.

Make sure to run the weight and balance again. Most pilots weigh in at 170-180 lbs.
When you have pilots/passengers north of 200 lbs., you need to make sure to check whether the balance point falls within the CG envelope. 🧐🤔

Jimmy, if you take the motor mount and you know what the actual parameters are for it you can make a mold for it. You can decide how dense you want polyurethane and you can actually mix the polyurethane and make it where it won't degrade because it's not made of rubber. And it will actually fit what you need it to fit in.
If you need it more flexible than polyurethane normally is you can always put a few drilled holes in it and allow it to flex and it's still very durable.

When your setting up your Elvis Jet schedule, please try to include a stop by the Brand New Hickory Avaition Museum in Hickory, NC which I believe is scheduled to open late next year.
It will include the US Navy FA-18 Hornet Blue Angel #5 that was retired, flown to Hickory, and inducted into the Hickory Avaition Museum. It was just announced last week the Blue Angel # 5 will be the first Aircraft to be placed in the New, INDOOR museum. At present all Aircraft are displayed outdoors which necessitates an extraordinary amount of upkeep. Blue Angel #5 has already been pulled from the display area and is being prepped, and stored indoors awaiting its spot in the new Museum. The museum has several Aircraft, both fixed wing, and rotary. Every thing from Korean War Era prop planes , P-3 Orian ( open for tours) to the Latest Acquisition the Blue Angel # 5
We'd love to have you attend the Opening, regardless of whether or not The Elvis Jet RV is ready to roll.
It's a great Museum, that's open free of charge, and ran and staffed by Volunteers !
Love your videos, and I love wearing my Jimmy's World tee's and explaining just what Jimmy's World is !
Hope to meet you one day. My wife and I will be in Inverness, Fl the last week in February for the Big Honkin Trike Rally, maybe we could come down to Plant City and let you try out our ICE Trikes Adventure HD 26FS Recumbent Trike. A Recumbent trike would be great to take on a flight, as they fold in half, and would be great for getting to the FBO office, or from hanger to hanger. They're awesome, it's like a Go Kart ya pedal !
    Have fun, be safe !

The 3lvis bus is going to be amazing. So cool. I wish you could do something with the back end instead of just closing it off with a flat piece. I would love to see a cone shape at the back to still resemble a plane and then some sort of plane tail and rear wing. Alot smaller than usual but i think something could be done just so it stays with the theme of an airplane. It is going to be awesome.

Once you remove a Cessna emergency exit window.... YOU WILL NEVER be able to get it to seal again, without completely rebuilding the darn thing. Including replacing all the window seals. You will wreck the window trying to remove it. Seriously. There was an IA who insisted we open an emergency exit to sign off a 100 hour on a 401... and we never were able to get it to seal again. Including using a couple tubes of silicone seal. That baby looks wonderful, and you'd hate to bend it opening it. GET a crash axe and equip the airplane with such. You'll be able to hack out any window or even the side of the thing.

I empathize with you regarding the RV. I purchased a brand new 40Ft. diesel pusher w/3 slides in 1993. Manufactured by one of the leading RV manufacturers on a Freightliner chassis. Problems started almost immediately with the coach part. Took it to the dealer for warranty repairs multiple times. Eventually after threatening to invoke the "lemon law", the manufacturer agreed to take it back into their factory repair facility and supposedly had a contracted repairman working on it. Three months later, I got it back along with some of the original problems plus new issues. Kept it a few more years, mostly sitting in my driveway and finally got rid of it. Huge financial loss. Interestingly, the Freightliner chassis was trouble free for the entire time I had it. An RV is a moving hole in the road to throw money into.

The turn buckle come in a long version and a short version. (Designations "S" for short and "L" for long). The center part is made of brass and the ends of 2330 nickel steel heat treated by 125000 Pound per square inch and cadmium plated. The threads are Class 3NF. Long turn buckles range from 8"-9 5/8". Short turn buckles range 4 1/2"-5". The one in the photo is single wire safety wound. Threads on the ends, there is a right and a left hand thread. There are four that I know of, MS 21251, MS21252, MS21255, MS212256. Make one. The engine mounts, make a mold and than pour one. If you are not breaking rules by doing this.

All the unobtanium parts etc are exactly whats wrong with certified GA. Any of the parts from the exhaust to the control fittings could be made 100X better than factory in any machine shop. I mean you could make full custom titanium exhaust for a fraction what that rusty Cessna crap sells for.

Maybe you should keep the jacks for when the Elvis jet is parked and people are touring it, but you may be removing them for simplicity and for clearance of the fuselage or not having to cut as much on it….fun projects going on!

Love watching your shows. I hope the family will give all give the museum permission to sell you the airplane. I hate to see such a beautiful airplane being stuck on the ground. It's like a bird in a cage. The birds look better in the sky.

As for the interior on the 310 I remember there being a couple pieces of sharp metal poking out that could’ve cut someone. I say yes the interior needs a little update.

Jimmy. To persuade the family to sign off on the Lanceair, perhaps negotiate a deal where the proceeds of the sale go to an aviation charity.?

Might as well try to approach the family. You could produce a short video of past cuts and splice into why it would mean a lot to them to have it in the air. You could add custom graphics or something as a memorial. Give each a flight?
