    We all need some USB charging facility on our Bike.
    Most Motorbike rider installs one USB outlet and is done.
    As it is, this solution has too many limitations for the serious long-distance rider.
    We have more to charge than just a phone.
    Meet the best solution I came across and what I use for years.
    The Givi S110 & S111
    A little bit more effort to install ( and modify) but the simplest most reliable solution on the market. And pretty cheap as well.
    If you are serious about your USB

    Very enlightening in the way you’ve chosen to use the battery charger. Enlightening because although not rocket science, a simple application tweak of using the charger as the main power supply as opposed to using it as a backup, which is nothing short of brilliant 👏.
    Slightly overshadowed but of equal importance is the fact that you’ve proven that the setup works when used in this way for a long term solution, that’s huge. 👍🏾

    How about removing the head light and finding a positive wire that is only hot when the ignition switch is on. I use a probe that has a 12V light on it and a ground wire with a clip.

    I have this set Givi S110+S111 - after a year of use, the power from the S110 connector began to disappear, i.e. when you connect everything (S111 with S110 using GIVI tank bag) , there is no power on the S111 hub. You need to try many times to disconnect and reconnect the S110 connectors from the S111 or twist them one inside the other so that the power starts to go again... The problem is still not solved...

    • @MOTOTravelUK
      @MOTOTravelUK  3 роки тому

      It sounds like a kinked cable. Have you tried to connect without the tank bag connector?

    Honest question from an absolute Newbie. I’m currently in possession of a 125, Would you suggest getting an external battery charger as to not drain directly from the battery? I’m unsure on performance or whether or not this would be efficient for me. Advice would be appreciated.

    • @MOTOTravelUK
      @MOTOTravelUK  3 роки тому

      Ok, your 125 is not a big engine but it is changing your battery anyway. 😀 so there is enough capacity to charge your USB stuff. All the equipment take virtually no current. If you connect everything directly to your battery you have no problem at all.
      Don't forget to disconnect if you park up. But don't panic, it will not kill your battery within a 5 minute stop.
      Also if you equipment is charged up, there is virtually now drain at the system.
      Thanks and be safe.

      @@MOTOTravelUK Thank you that's very helpful I appreciate the feedback I'll be sure to keep some of that in mind. I was told that trackers directly attached to the battery would drain it quickly so I was curious as to how USB chargers would effect it's performance.

    Motorcycles have a 6v or 12v power wires... What if you are wanting to put that 5v USB charger on a 52v ebike..? do you need a Shunt to protect your system?

    • @MOTOTravelUK
      @MOTOTravelUK  Рік тому

      You need a 12 volt power rail. 6 volt power regulators are available as an DIY option. You can directly wire your USB charger to that. Never done it though.

I used it on every trip for the last 5 years starting Bikes, Vans, Landrovers, and Boats. Working on my laptop, phone and everything else. I'm independent from any main power needs. Yes, you can. Works just great like that. I included the relay in order to pull more power for my aux lights. For charging absolutely fine.
