The effect is often subtle enough to be hard to see on camera. If the paint is opaque enough, then yes, it doesn't really show through, but can be a useful tool for understanding the shapes of a model, and where shadows need to be exaggerated etc.
Well I won't comment on how long time it took for me to paint my custodes. But definitely not 20 min each. 😂 And you can never have to many space marine armies.
I feel like I'm always fighting the sort of speckling I see on your initial white airbrushing over the primer. I'm finally getting better at thinning it, using white ink, and doing just 2-3 quick passes to avoid that speckled look, but it's still hard to fight. I guess it doesn't matter too much in this particular case, but, it feels like there's a good skill there to get better at (for me). Anyway, great results on your vid!
yeah, the black primer by the same brand doesn't do that, so I'm going to experiment with thinning it, which you really shouldn't have to do with a primer, but the speckling has got to go!
@@thehammerofwrath Yeah, I see some video where it's just buttery smooth white fade over the dark primer layer, and I'm always so envious of getting that blending smooth.
Holy cow a Warhammer UA-camr that understands what a magazine is❤
:)
I thought the same thing! ITS NOT A CLIP, DAMMIT.
Amazing! So gritty and real looking. A nice change from the cartoony looking box art. Grimdark forever!
Thank you very much!
Do it... do the army! I'm learning heaps from your vids, like how it takes me a thousand times longer thank you to paint up Imperial Fists.
NO! I MUSTN'T!
Turned out great, subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
looks nice the end result, but I've yet to understand the benefit of xenithal and underpainting etc with opaque colours to be honest.

Shared, great vid.
Looks like that space marine has seen some s**t in battle. Excellent work as always. And no 3 is not enough lol.
I believe you are what is called an "enabler". :)

Would like to see this approach on other spacemarine chapters...Blood angels would be good to see.
thanks! I'm sure I'll get around to speed painting other chapters as well!

try Tamiya X2 white thinned with Tamiya thinner which will give a far superior gradient

I've discovered that three drops of airbrush thinner per one drop of white primer creates flawless blends and eliminates the speckling!
@@thehammerofwrath good info, thanks!
