  • Another day and another phenomenal metal detecting adventure.
A return to the carrot field with the XP DEUS 2 to investigate ancient crop marks reveals a potential village lost since the medieval period or even the Iron Age 2,000 years ago!
Let me know what you think about the crop marks and the finds. With less than 5% of the field detected so far there should be some amazing treasure discoveries still to come from this field!!

I think the little figurine is circa 1780. He’s wearing a cutaway coat with wide cuffs. Hairstyle is smooth on top with tight curl on the bottom. Hair would be clubbed in the back. Not posed like a soldier. More like a bit of a dandy.

@@thescottishdetectoristmy pleasure 😊! Upon second look, I think the little head definitely has a face, but I’m not sure the head is human. It almost has more of a snout than a face and I wonder if it could be an anthropomorphized chimpanzee or lion? Some Roman or Egyptian diety? There seems to be a little leaf under the chin on the left side.

It would be pretty hard to keep your expectations in check after your initial silver, Saying to yourself, Now don't get to exited John, that might be all that you will find. But happily that was not the case this time, What a day! A day that you don't want to end, and already planning to return there as soon as possible. Well, I know that is what would, and has gone through my mind on such occasions, few and far between as they are. Not that Australia has the ancient influences Scotland has, but that doesn't change the need to get back there to see what more can be found. Congrats on an excellent days detecting! Cheers Mate! Hooray!

( there were some issued in 1970 in a Proof set..!)
And even if your Denarii is Roman.
We get our Term 'Penny' from a Anglo version of 'Dennii'.
It's why we used £.S.& .D. for Pence..!
    D for Dennii or Denarii.
